I feel like Nielsen needs to prove that wins can be had with the Yotes and this is finally their chance to show to the MVFC that they are more than just a mediocre to bottom feeder team. I feel like they get lucky and pull this one out but it would be nothing new to have the Yotes let people down.

If there is one man who can turn around a program with minimal resources, it is Nielsen. Look at what he did at WIU with almost nothing. Now that he actually has a state and university who will dump way more into their athletics to support success, he has the chance to finally put his name out there for a more "premier" FCS school if he has success there. He took UM-Duluth and won 2 titles and consistent playoff appearances and then got that D1 job. I think his end game is a consistent top 25 FCS school with a relatively big budget for the FCS.

Now this is a slight derailment, but if he has success at USD, would SDSU come calling once Stieg retires or finally steps down and he finally gets a team that can give him a consistent top 10 performance year in and year out?

And 5 MVFC vs BigSky games this weekend. Be interesting to see how the conference bragging rights come out on this. Especially since Big sky teams host 4 of 5.

Until the Yotes prove they can stop the run I have them losing to Bowling Green. I am also a little concerned with the rushing offense. Drake was not much of an opponent to be able to gauge against the MVFC. It is surprising to see so many others think they will win this game.

Watching some of that game, Bowling Green would only beat Missouri State and Indiana State in the Valley.....and both games would be close.

USD has put up some gaudy numbers and I think they have something going on. The offense seems to be a one man show around Streveler....Not sure that kind of dependency will get them through...That said, I have USD higher than UND currently

Really? I am not fully sold on USeD, but, I had them in my week 1 poll and in my week 2, but GFCC has finally turned the corner as their only "tough" game is Montana at Montana. Otherwise they got Montana St and EWU at home.

I am probably the biggest Nielson supporter outside of Yotes fans, but, if he cannot get it done, no one will get it done there. He has immensely more financial and resource support from USeD than he did at WIU. However, if Strevler is their offense, that leads to problems as people will gang up on him. I get that out of all of their games, only 2 were more than 1 score losses, but I need to see a W against GFCC to put them above GFCC.

WR is incredibly deep and Simmons can launch the ball. You'll know him well too soon enough.

Goedert, Wieneke, TC, Dunn, Anderson, Norvell, McShane, etc... all might have something to say about this.

USD put up 34 in regulation against UND on the road last year. An improved Coyote offense playing at home seems likely to put up plenty again.

Streveler is probably the single most dangerous player in the MVFC and adds a dimension to the offense, but we would hardly be lost without him. Simmons is a very capable backup, with a better arm, and has already won a game against a playoff team as a freshman last season. The run game is currently suspect, and the lack of depth on the OL will likely show down the stretch, but we aren't falling off a cliff when Streveler inevitably misses time. WR is incredibly deep and Simmons can launch the ball. You'll know him well too soon enough.

Was curious what the sentiment here would be, can't say I'm surprised to see the MVFC talk is still largely a cesspool.

Bowling Green would finish with MSU at the bottom of the league. They are terrible. The MAC should be embarrassed. Watched much of USD and UND games. UND wins. More disciplined, more depth and better coached.

You could have just said "back to form". I also don't know why so many assume we run away with the win this week - our game in Murray was close last year, and that was when the dog beater was still under center and Dylan Cole was still in our uniform.

My only hope for our game this time is that our punter makes it out alive. Stec had the Racers kill our last guy.

Crap .. thought I posted my week 2 picks on AGS - just saw cumulative score on week 3 thread and didn't enter. But here are my picks as posted, dated, and legally notarized on Redbird Fan page .. can I get a little exception here since I've been playing much nicer in sand box this year ?????

Here are my picks and keys:

- Indiana State at Tennessee: Tenn is lock

- Missouri State at #11 North Dakota .. North Dakota is over-rated, and they lost 7 starters on defense, which was their strength last year. I think MoST gives them all they can handle, but UND will win a high scoring game by 10 points.

- #2 NDSU at #6 Eastern Washington ... EWU may have moe trouble adpating their roster to their new conservative minded coaching staff. They lost 56-10 to TX Tech, and their run/pass split was 50/50, even though they averaged an anemic 2.3 ypc running the ball. How do you throw same # of passes and runs while losing 56-10 .. this is not teh EWU that has been dominating the Big Sky the last 7 years. But NDSU has had several key injuries, so they won't be full strength. But NDSU defense is still better than TX Tech .. EWU better have differnt game plan thi sweek, or they will lose big in Fargo. NDSU wins by 10-14 on road.

- Cal Poly at #21 UNI - lot of new coaches plus pocket QB who threw 3 picks last week in 18 point loss to Iowa St. Cal Poly offense lost 6 starters. UNI defense is good. UNI wins at home by at least 14 assuming QB Dunne settles down. He has good arm.

- South Dakota at Bowling Green - no idea on this one. USD is all offense and highly suspect defense. Bowling Green is pretty weak. USD may catch the by surprise in high scoring game and win a close one. USD by 3 in high scoring game.

- #4 S. Dakota St. at Montana State - SDSU has too much fire power on offense and will win by at least 2 TDs.

- Mississippi Valley St. at S. Illinois - SIU is my dark horse team in MVFC - they will win by at least 7 TDs

- #22 Western Illinois at N. Arizona - WIU is my pick for 4th in MVFC - their commitment ro run game and defense should help them beat NAU in high scoring game. NAU QB is very good and game in at NAU at high elevation. WIU must control the clock or their defense will be worn down in the thin air. WIU by 7 in high scoring game.

- Robert Morris at #6 Youngstown State - YSU was surprisingly competitive against a good Pitt team. YSU plays NEC teams a lot and will NOT run up the score. So while YSU i 7 or 8 TDs better, they will probably only win by 5 TDs. Plus YSU lost a lot off that defense.
