Amazing, no sign of Kyle Shotwell the Buck Bucannan Award winner. :bang: What's that about?

And to think, some believe FCS players get a fair shot at the NFL. How many in that group are former D1A/BCS (or whatever it is called) transfers. I know Mike Mason from TnSu, Swogger, and Coe from Alabama St. are. I wish the players well.

Gutierrez from Idaho State was also a transfer, he came over from Michigan.

Truly amazing -- Cal Poly's Kyle Shotwell should be there -- not only his performance during the regular season but also his performance as leading tackler in the East-West Shrine game. How do you leave out the Buchanan Award winner which goes to the best defensive player in FCS ???

What is the criteria for being chosen?

Jacob Ford C. Ark transfer from Memphis. Fairooz only true D2 guy from UCA. Just goes to show you why kids go IA..if nothing it looks better on their resume..:(

Lack of height. To be honest he had some politics in his favor that got him in the Shrine game. He would not have gotten selected had he not had a connection to someone on the player committee. He did prove he belonged though. I have yet to see his name listed as draftable anywhere. I am just as surprised as everyone else though.

Out of this group DeOssie and Durant had family play in the NFL at some point. Fairooz and Dahl started out in D2. Only 11 true FCS players on the list.

This is why the BCS schools laugh at the FCS because of the fact that half of the players that get looked at did not even start their career in the FCS.

I still think it is important to look at these guys but people must look at that fact that less than 5 percent of the combine guys actually started out in the FCS. This is why NFL teams don't show them as much respect. Colston is about the only FCS player among last year's rookies who made it big already. The others are still developing. He is just one player out over 100 that got into a camp. That is less than 1 percent.

In the defense of FCS players there are some guys like Kyle Shotwell, Jacob Bender, Christian Koegel, David Simonhoff, Edgar Jones, Justin Rascati, Corey Davis, Ed McCarthy, Justise Hairston, and Maurice Price who are considered somewhat of a snub.

Probably the biggest snub seems to be Rascati, Jones, or Price though. Price has seen his name move up boards.

I don't know if Rascati's numbers were big enough to get him in there. Do those names include the "all time passers" that help with drills?

Here is a list of FCS players that I know of who were not transfers....

We were in our exploratory year during Dahl's freshmen year (he was a true freshmen); when he was recruited we had already announced that we were going DI, so I would consider him a FCS recruit, because our intention to go to DI was definetly one of the reasons that he came to NDSU.

Rascati has done well from what I heard at the Texas vs. Nation practices. I know the list includes every QB who is going but I still think he was a snub. He should go in the 7th round or so. If he doesn't, his upside could be what lands him a roster spot IMO.

Yeah but the school was D2 at the time so that is why I lumped him in that group. One more player does not make a big difference but you could actually put him in either group.

21 FCS players out of 326 players to be exact. That is 6 percent.

About 10% of NFL players are FCS guys, so those guys are obviously making their name somewhere.

Not a lot of success, true, but I would argue that very few rookies from any level made it "big" already.

QB - only 2 had more than 2,000 yards passing - Leinart and Young. None had a passer rating higher than 74. Tarvaris Jackson was #5 among rookie QB's in passing yards (albeit with 475 yards passing)

RB - only 1 had a 1,000 yard season (Addai), although there were some good seasons out there - Jones-Drew, Maroney come to mind

WR - Colston led all rookies by 214 yards and was the only one over 1,000. He didn't just make it big, he made it huge - he was also tied for 3rd in total rookie TD's behind Jones-Drew and Bush.

On the defensive side of the ball, Howard's Antoine Bethea was a starter for the Colts and had over 100 tackles. Not too shabby.

Keep in mind that QB's take a little longer to develop, and Tony Romo, although not a rookie, did lead the Cowboys to the playoffs. Going back a year, Mathis (Hampton) was a Pro Bowler in his rookie year.

I am just pointing out stats on it. It does seem like FCS players who make it seem to do very well. You don't see many who make it to the NFL and become a bust like Ryan Leaf and others. It is a small percentage but it is also the elite of the FCS and it shows when about 90 percent of them make it in the NFL.

Seems like more players make it each year than invited to the combine. You would think they would invite more players but I doubt we will ever see more than 10 percent of the invites from the FCS. This seems even more apparent with top programs like Western Kentucky and others moving on.

Lack of height. To be honest he had some politics in his favor that got him in the Shrine game. He would not have gotten selected had he not had a connection to someone on the player committee. He did prove he belonged though. I have yet to see his name listed as draftable anywhere. I am just as surprised as everyone else though.

Still doesn't make sense! 6 of the top ten "draftable" inside linebackers are 6'1" or shorter!

Yeah it is weird. There are 6'2 and 6'3 ILBs but there are also plenty of 6'0 and 6'1 ILBs in the NFL. I think he should at least get drafted. Would not surprise me to see him moved to OLB.

how the hell is rascati a snub and jason murrietta not? i agree that rascati is a very good qb buuut a 2-time Walter Payton award finalist? rascati is an inch taller than jason. just that fact that swogger and guttierez are going is retarded.....jason was leaps and bounds better than both of them and they get in because they couldn't hack it at DIA schools

You also have to remember what NFL teams look for. They are going to give a better look to a player who might not be as good of a player now but has the physical tools such as ht, wt, 40 speed, arm strength, mobility, etc. I agree that Murrietta was somewhat of a snub but he had down years as a sophomore and junior so which player is he, the frosh and senior version or the soph and jr version? I think NFL teams are going to make him prove which version he is as a 7th round or FA pickup instead of giving him the benefit of the doubt.

Gutierrez and Swogger were both good QBs at I-A. Gutierrez just happened to play behind a 1st round caliber QB (something very few good players can say) and Swogger started but then had some injury problems. Murrietta is a good player but his lack of size and the fact he did have really down years after that fantastic freshman year has him rated lower.

i guarantee the only reason Murrietta is being snubbed is because of his lack of size. he's probably only 6'0 and about 220 now. if he was 6'5, there is no way in hell you would be talking about "down years"

Blaming Murrietta's down sophomore year (he was still an All-BSC pick) and down junior year is the dumbest thing i have ever heard. What about players especially quarterbacks who dont start until their junior or senior years. Does that mean they should not be looked at because they had down years sitting on the bench???xidiotx

I understand what you are saying and to be honest if you only started one year that does affect you. Most one year starters do not go as high as they should unless they go to the combine or the Senior Bowl and really tear it up.

Plus, don't you think you are a little bias towards him? I am not calling you out but I have not heard anyone else out of the Big Sky say this. You could be right. You just have to realize that some probably feel you are being bias.

I am not taking cracks at you. You have seen more of him than any of the others on this board. It is just that there are so many variables that you can't truly say the NFL is being stupid until the player proves them wrong and it has happened. They are not always right. Murrietta just needs to go out there and prove everyone wrong.

Murrietta is a GREAT FCS QB but the NFL projects him as an average developmental type. The NFL is a different type of game. Just because you are good in college does not mean it will translate to the NFL.

Has the school done a press release on it? He must be one of the drills QBs. That would be good for him because he will be there all week throwing to every group that comes in.

Who would drop out of the combine??? I can't even see Brady Quinn not showing up. You have all 32 GMs, head coaches, and EVERy scout in the NFL. It is on NFL Network and every major media outlet is there. Why would anyone not workout? If I was hurt I would at least show up and do interviews.

Congrats to Rascati, though!
