Know how I know your gay? You worry about punctuation when someone on a message board is calling you a pussy. It's a message board and I'm on a phone if autocorrect doesn't do it for me I'm not putting any commas or apostrophes.

Apparently, neither was in English.

Did they? They scored a TD on the last play to make it a one score game. I don't know if I'd say "almost beat". I'd argue W&M or Nova came closer. Even UNH in that epic 4th quarter comeback.

Richmond was leading with less than 2 minutes to play.

That's true. I forgot about College Station...but that's easy to do. Am I right?? lololol

Actually, Conroe-North Houston (formally, Lone Star Executive Airport) in Conroe has a new 7,500 foot x 150 foot concrete runway and two more than adequate FBOs capable of servicing charter flights.

I'm surprised SHSU and visitors dont use it over College Station.

2 time National Champion Colgate is always willing to travel. In 2003 I believe they travelled as the higher seed for their playoff game before being in the championship game.

Oh dang. Yeah half a week of significant flooding wouldn't allow a field to be playable within 2 or 3 days. I hope they still try to find a way if there's any chance.

i don't think anyone here really cares about football or SOS at this point. There are players on the team with family's in the middle of all this. Football is just a pastime from real life, there's lots of real life to deal with right now. By the end of the day, my neighborhood will be closed off from the interstate. I'd be surprised if the Richmond/Sam Houston State game is played at this point. I don't think Huntsville is in as bad a flood zone as areas to the south (Houston) and southwest, but the big issues will be 1) Richmond getting its team to Huntsville and 2) many fans getting to the game. Even by next Saturday the hardest hit flooded areas could very easily still be in a flooding situation, due to the immense amount of rain that has fallen and has yet to fall, and the inability for the already flooded waterways, drainage systems, and saturated ground to drain the water.

Semi-OT - I expect there will be at least two other college football games postponed, moved, or canceled by the flooding, including the Prairie View A&M at Texas Southern game. (The other game likely to be impacted is the DI-A/FBS game between Brigham Young and Louisiana State, which is scheduled to be played at NRG Stadium in Houston.)

Gangtackle11

Some areas are expected to get 4 feet of rain (2 has fallen) by Thursday. That's the average annual rainfall.

Damn. How tall are traffic lights and highway signs? 20ft? More?

There are many walls or poles adjacent to roadways in Houston that have painted flood depth markings on them. The Houston area, and the Texas/Louisiana Gulf Coast area in general, is flat and low-lying relative to sea level. Flooding occurs there because the water table isn't that far below ground and there's nowhere for the water to go. And we're not talking about relatively common run-of-the-mill flooding in this situation, we're talking about the worst flooding in the history of many areas of southeast Texas.

RabidRabbit

Working the disaster activities for Hurricane Harvey. We are projecting even deeper flooding wider flood levels over about a 16 County area stretching from ne of Houston to Corpus Christi and west to San Antonio Austin. In Houston may be 4-6 feet higher than during TS Allison. If in a slab on grade structure in Harris Co. plan on a minimum of 2 feet of water and no power for 7-14 days.

August 27th, 2017, 07:30 PM
There is no way to design a drainage system for 40-50 inches of rain in two to three days. More specifically when there is concrete everywhere. They have came out with a concrete that is pores so water can penetrate to get the soil. This is a major problems about big cities. Nearly every bit of ground is concrete so the water has no place to go and fill up creeks and rivers fast.

Unfortunately, these events will likely become more common in the future as large numbers of people are moving to large cities along the Atlantic and Gulf Coasts.

There was a similar event in Eastern North Carolina 18 years ago https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hurricane_Floyd
That hurricane however mostly flooded sparsely populated areas.

alvin.kmiec
August 28th, 2017, 10:21 AM
I think every time something like this happens they will call it 500, 1,000 or 2,000 year flood. This away they can cover their buts and make people feel better that they want have to face this again. Like Walliver said more people move into the cities and it becomes more concrete more floods will happen. Out in our rural area we can have 15 to 20 inches of rain and it will make the creeks and rivers come up but not flood like it is in Houston. I own around 500 ac on the Trinity river and a few years ago we was flooded seven times in one year. But most of the problems was because of a big lake about 150 river miles down stream was holding water back. They told us land owners they didn't want to make a man made flood for everyone that has houses in the river bottom. We told them what in the hell are y'all making us? Those nut cases are the ones builded house in the river bottoms. Then want tax payers to pay them to build back. Most of the big subdivisions southwest of Houston are in the Brazos river bottom. Great Wood subdivision most especially backs up to the river. The times I worked down there in the 80's and 90's it seemed like it always flooded but people kept coming. We have a old saying out here you built your bed now you sleep in it. They will never keep downtown Houston from flooding either with a major drainage way going right through town. Most of the guys on here that live down there can probably say the same thing.

Please note that this is about the 6th storm since 2012 to come off the Gulf and stall. Houston 2015, 2016, and now. Baton Rouge to Slidell, both March & Aug 2016. Hurricane Isaac 2012. At least 4 of those were 500 yr recurrence interval rainfall flooding. Just means not enough years of record extreme event. Anyone who doesn't grasp that these are each independent events, and can be repeated at any time anywhere along the coast are leaving selves vulnerable to the next storm. Note that Rita came dang close to tracking identical to Katrina. 3 of the 4 Florida hurricanes of 04 went over a small town SW of Orlando in same year. Statistical anomalies, yes. Houston could get another major flood yet this year.

This stalled event is beyond realm of projection, but it is happening. Hopefully we be pass the peak flooding in Tx by upcoming weekend. Most rivers from Corpus Christi will see new record stages. Expect more NFIP policy claims ever since start of program.

That hurricane however mostly flooded sparsely populated areas.

I remember Hurricane Floyd; that was one of the first really large hurricanes size-wise IIRC. Floyd did NOT linger over North Carolina however; it pushed northward into the Mid-Atlantic and Northeast and brought heavy rain to the southern part of the Northeast Corridor. (That rain was actually partially good because that part of the country was suffering through an extreme drought at the time.)

A much more analogous hurricane to Harvey, albeit not as destructive flooding-wise, was Hurricane Agnes in June 1972, which parked itself over central Pennsylvania for a few days and created the worst flooding in history in many areas of Pennsylvania, particularly in the Susquehanna River basin.

They said the same things about Katrina and Sandy. All have been within 12 years.

When meteorologists talk about 500 year floods, they are talking about floods in a given location, not floods anywhere.

Incidentally, the issue with Hurricane Sandy was more about storm surge than flooding rain. (A lot of the storm surge issue was due to the fact Sandy was the largest God damn hurricane or tropical storm I've ever seen in a satellite image. It made even large hurricanes like Floyd (1999), Ivan (2004), Katrina, Rita, Wilma (all 2005), Ike (2008), and now Harvey look small.)

I was being somewhat sarcastic since the drain pipe broke and was spewing water at the mid point of the road.

Nothing from nothing, but that's not a drain pipe, is a man hole cover and the water level in the system busting it out. But it don't matter.

But I forgot y'all had an injured QB. Our team was in the prime of their health for that game, so yeah you're right.

No. I think y'all had a bad game where I'm sure a lot of miscues ended up in a embarrassing defeat. Good luck Friday night. You gon need it. xdrunkyx

Nat'l title > $$$$$/notoriety/public perception/national exposure? No dis to fcs but those bowl games are targeting viewership w/ sponsorship, for the most part. The espn family seems to be that vehicle of choice to make that come to fruition. IMHO, and I've seen this before really up close and personal w/ former coach Simon and crew as they made the push for UNT, it seems like SHSU is ready (enrollment #s wise) for FBS'dom.

When y'all have 19 season ending injuries, with 11 being starters and 2 being all americans, you can start to use the injury excuse.

When your offense cant function because it revolves around one player (definately a problem), your defense spends the whole game on the field and it was a defense that got bailed out all season from outstanding offensive play. I think you will see Friday night we will be much more physical on both sides of the ball and defense is looking really good. Ready for some football! And beer, lots of beer.

I have no predictions about the outcome on Friday, I am confident our guys will be ready to play. I have been watching the Spiders for years and this version has started off as well as any I've seen. But I also believe that SHSU has a better team than in recent past (which says a lot because you've been pdg). All I know is the team that wins will be a force to reckon with as the season goes on.

I've been through some nasty storms, but nothing like what I have seen on TV, thoughts and prayer sout to all those affected. Good Luck Friday, hopefully the game will give the locals a few hours to forget about the recent weather events.

To my knowledge, i'm pretty sure most traveling teams get just about that, a short walk through the day before. In the playoffs the team usually arrives the day before. So i'm not sure what the issue is. UR will have had all week to practice prior to flying in. Don't think there's an issue. Besides, this game had been in the schedule for months. If they have not starting game planning and getting reps in by now..this could be ugly.

Sam Houston is one of just two teams in the FCS, along with North Dakota State and New Hampshire, to reach the FCS playoffs each of the last six seasons. In that time the Kats have posted an impressive 14-6 mark, trailing only the Bison in playoff wins during that span. Sam Houston has reached at least the quarterfinals in four of those six seasons, including back-to-back trips to the FCS championship game in both 2011 and 2012.

- The Kats are 17-10 all-time in the FCS playoffs and own the country’s third-best winning percentage (.629) in the playoffs. Last season Sam Houston made its sixth straight appearance in the FCS Playoffs and 10th overall.

I do know one thing with all the flood water in the Houston area it's going smell pretty bad for a long time down there. When the Trinity river floods our cattle ranch it smells bad after the water goes down.

It's actually a lot cleaner than it used to be. 30 years ago I wouldn't eat anything that came out of it. The water even looked like sewage water back then. The EPA comes out a few times a year and takes water samples from it to make sure it's stay clean now.

Yes they do. The gar guy that used to be on tv would come to the back of our place and hunt them. His dang airboat scared the **** out of me once while I was working on the fence by the river. There is some big ones in it that's for sure.

This game should be in Huntsville. All major roads to and from Huntsville are open and there is absolutely no flooding around the stadium. I took this picture in front of stadium. http://i.imgur.com/yQNMxw4.jpg

University is closed until 9/5. There are no employees working at the university or the stadium. Many of the hotels are at capacity from displaced victims. Many areas of conroe where the opposing team usually stays are still impassable. Many businesses are still not open and restaraunts low on food. Roads may be open, but the infrastructure is not ready for an event at the moment.

This was poorly planned by the U. Conroe isn't the only town near Huntsville, you have College Station right down the road. What businesses aren't open?

Legit question, are you really that dumb?

Do you need more FBS transfer or JUCO players for this game?We hear you are running short.Do these kids actually go to school or do you work the eligibility angle.Nothing new for Keeler.Do they have real majors?

TRANSFERS SET TO MAKE IMPACT--The Kats expect to get help from their heralded signing class, but will also be looking at its transfer additions to help immediately. There are 17 FBS transfers currently on the roster, including nine joining this season. Additions such as Darius Mouton (http://www.gobearkats.com/ViewArticle.dbml?&ATCLID=211634512&DB_OEM_ID=19900) (UNLV), Payton Hendrix (http://www.gobearkats.com/ViewArticle.dbml?&ATCLID=211662937&DB_OEM_ID=19900) (Texas Tech), JacColbie Butler (UTSA) and Craig Williams Jr. (http://www.gobearkats.com/ViewArticle.dbml?&ATCLID=211547431&DB_OEM_ID=19900) (Fresno City College) are expected to transform the secondary, while Chris Stewart (http://www.gobearkats.com/ViewArticle.dbml?&ATCLID=211634511&DB_OEM_ID=19900) (Wake Forest), Spencer Williams (http://www.gobearkats.com/ViewArticle.dbml?&ATCLID=211634591&DB_OEM_ID=19900) and Sekou Clark (http://www.gobearkats.com/ViewArticle.dbml?&ATCLID=211547435&DB_OEM_ID=19900) (Trinity Valley CC) have arrived to help a defensive line that lost five of eight off the final two-deep of 2016. Adding CC transfers they have a total of 25 players from other schools if I read their site correct. 17 FBS? That's a bunch. No wonder they have done so well.

UCA has 23 transfers but only 6 from FBS from UAB (2), UAPB, Ark. State, Nebraska, Texas Tech, and Memphis.

Wonder what the other schools transfers look like. Back to the game thread though...
