UNI in the top 25?
Really?
Yeah, I'm not getting this. Lost a lot of talent. Lost almost all their coaches. Didn't finish in the top 25 to finish last year.
What's everyone's reasoning they are going to rebound?
*Not saying they won't because Farley seems to do well when everyone counts them out, but on paper I don't see it.

From clips I've seen from their practices they are actually practicing some under center stuff. Which tells me they might actually be dropping the tom foolery to some extent and could be extremely dangerous this year. Plus Farely could actually be coaching for his job now. Might make him coach with what actually works instead of trying to force a vision that won't. They never have a talent issue. I thought they are dangerous enough to fill out the bottom with Montana and Montana state as two other teams I think turn it around this year.

Well they were still quarter finalists despite the result of that game. Plus they return more than the majority of FCS does from last year. As much **** as I give SHSUs fans as a voter I feel I need to step back and look at the big picture, not focus on the results of just one game. Personally I feel they gave up in the JMU game. But they have the talent to be a top 4 team IMO. We'll see what happens as the season goes on.

So you're ranking records?
What if the 4 losses are NDSU, SDSU, YSU and Iowa State? There might be 1 quality win. Is it still a top 25 record?

Absolutely! Relative to the rest of the FCS. Still means wins over Cal Poly, SUU and WIU while playing in a Top 2 FCS conference. Hell, there's 6-5 teams getting votes by the end of the year.

No YSU? I'm not saying that couldn't be prophetic given what they lost but leaving a previous year's finalist completely out of the preseason top 25 is bold.

Montana is a little high at #17, but at least you have them in the top 25! Hopefully they'll end the season in the top 10. Schedule sets up perfectly for a run.

Here's the Wedge blog post for the preseason poll: http://thefcswedge.com/ags-poll/ags-poll-2017-preseason-top-25-results/
I get WIU moving up 10 spots considering how much they're bringing back. I'm just not seeing the reasoning why UNI is getting the largest jump in the poll. IMO, Northern Iowa and Montana have to be getting by on name only.
*Either way, nice write up whoever did it.

Schedule sets up perfectly for a run. This was my toughest call, probably a little high at the start. You have the only other three "quality" teams in the BSC at home and that was really the reason why I put you where I did. Win all three of those, who knows, could be top ten unless you choke away the cupcakes on the road.

Thanks!
As far as UNI's jump I do believe Supe did a "most overrated teams of the AGS poll era" write up last year by comparing teams who most consistently finished below their preseason rankings by the time the final ranking came out. I do believe UNI was #1 on that list. Old habits die hard here I guess. :D

You are already building a good philosophy and trying to say anything about what one thinks they might be this year based on that game is just a fool's errand.

Their schedule is favorable especially with two auto DI wins in the preseason, but I don't look a lot at schedule at this point. If you have a favorable schedule I expect you to do well with it. If you don't I can be more sympathetic to a so-so record. IMO, Montana has to get to 7-4 for playoff consideration, IMHO.

They have a lot of returning starters, but they did lose a very productive wide receiver, Brian Brown, and QB Kyle Lauletta is coming back from knee surgery. In addition, brand new head coach Huesman relied heavily on a very mobile QB at Chatty, which Lauletta is not. While I don't expect them to fall off the charts, I think 5 is a bit generous.

So far we have a small sample size of two 6 D1 win teams making the field and they both came from the MVFC. I still consider the minimum D1 win threshold to be 7 wins for all other conferences until shown otherwise.

Hey, the SHSU group brought all of that on themselves in last years playoffs so it was earned. Still doesn't mean the actual squad won't be damn good this year and really the Preseason is based a bit off last year of course but it is mostly a prediction by people of where they think teams will end up at the time the playoffs get rolling.

I made the same mistake regarding Montana. Why is YSU so low coming off a National Championship appearance? You didn't include UNH, although we do have some question marks and play all of our toughest opponents on the road - it's not unreasonable. But I do believe we could beat Grambling, Weber State, NC Central and of course Lehigh.

New guys, here is a tip. If you are leaving a team off of your ballot and you feel bad about it then it is an easy corretion in Week 1 and the best thing you can do every week is check your top 25 against the list of 25 or superman's list and make sure you have all the names on your ballot you intend to have there.
A great way to do that is to have a spreadsheet that you use each week for your votes. It will make you more consistent and make your life much easier.

I just throw my poll in google sheets. Nothing fancy just a list of my top 25 and the next week I start a new column. I double check against last week to make sure if a team dropped off I had reasoning for it. It's a good idea to double check against Supe's list as well.

Well the thing about that slot voting deal is to just remove the numbers completely, place the lists side by side and alpha sort them. Then it's easy to see if you are missing one that you wanted and when you have your list of 25 teams then place them in the order you feel without even looking at the old poll or the AGS Poll.

Villanova has to prove they can offensively produce against the top CAA teams. That was their problem last year.
Not going argue this point, but I expect the offense to be better. QB is now a redshirt junior & if he's going to the next level then this will be the year. Return 9 starters on offense. We will run the ball effectively and maybe spectacularly if RS frosh is as good as advertised. Defense will take a step down from the best in the FCS last season, but I bet they are still a top 20 if not Top 10 defense by year's end.
Lehigh will give us an indication if we can hang with some of the FCS bad boys. Imperative to win there as we have tougher opponents down the road. We may not recover from a Lehigh loss to make the playoffs. Some will say relax its Week 1. I see it as a key indicator game on the direction of Villanova's season.

Yes, that is some definite conference bias but I saw a couple ballots that did that (new guys tend to go that way at first) so luckily it gets washed out fairly well.
Well to be fair he did have 7 MVFC teams in there too.

I noticed Lehigh isn't ranked on several polls. To end up 19th must mean some people had them really high.
Going into the Lehigh @ UNH playoff game last season, I saw the game as a toss-up. I was very surprised to see UNH push Lehigh all over the field and win by 40+. I realize your starting QB did not start and was hurting health-wise when he did play. But there was far more difference than just QB play - also, on paper, the UNH #1 QB did not play any of the game. UNH was no powerhouse last season, so consequently it wasn't like you lost by 40+ to a JMU or NDSU. May have just been an anomaly, but you have to admit it was a bad showing. With Chase Edmonds playing what seems like his 13th season, I'm picking Fordham to win the PL.

You are already building a good philosophy and trying to say anything about what one thinks they might be this year based on that game is just a fool's errand.
That game don't mean **** except for laying some smack over some Texas hubris maybe.
Dirty Dukes, you can go at it how you want to but you ought to look around at some of the experience and so forth before you go too deep on some of your critique. I'm trying to save you a bit of possible embarrassment later on.
If the poll was a prediction of where the teams will end up in the playoffs, then I fudged up. I thought it was a prediction of where they are before the season.
As for the SHSU hate, I don't really have it. I just really don't think they're any good. I saw them play in person - did they give up? Yeah, but even before that they did not impress. The way their fans were talking they were this huge juggernaut and I just saw a team that reminded me of Rhode Island.

That was a shocking outcome! Easily Lehigh's worst playoff performance. The problem was the defense last year and it was exposed in the playoffs when the offense didn't have its usual swagger. Lehigh is loaded on offense once again. The question comes down to defense.
Picking Fordham though kind of goes against what you said about Lehig-UNH. Lehigh beat the Rams 58-37 last year and had down 51-14 iirc late in the 3rd before throwing in the towel. That game was similar to Lehigh-UNH. A complete head scratcher....

You may very well be right about the PL 2017 Champs. I don't have a lot of PL first hand experience. Colgate circa 2015 made me think the PL had moved to new level of play and the scholarships were beginning to level the CAA / PL playing field. But PL OOC results and the playoff appearance in 2016 have given reason to question that.

Yep - the 2 strongest (overall) conferences in FCS are starting the season well-represented in my poll. What I saw from The Big Lie Conference in the Playoffs last season really opened my eyes & other than JMU, I was "meh" (at best) about the CAA Teams I watched. I struggled to put EWU as high as I did and ranking UNH at all was painful for me. On the other hand, I saw 3 SoCon Teams that were as good as any in the field. So, we'll see how it plays out.
I will not predict more than 4 SoCon Playoff Teams in 2017...yet.

Here is what I was getting at but didn't work it out fully. Some voters use it as predictive of playoffs or the end of the season and others do exactly as you do. There are seriously some very interesting philosophies on how people do it and I guarantee you as you go at least one thing you hold dear now will be gone after doing it a couple of years. That game was an anomoly if you ask me. It was very bad but that team was much more talented than tehy looked that day.
Not nearly as talented as JMU but all the same, had talent and couldn't get out of their own way.

That's not bagging on him though really. It is just a fact that newbs tend to (you, me, we all did this) stick with what they are fairly comfortable with at first and this is exactly what you'd expect. He is a Southern area centric voter and this is where the majority of his knowledge and experience lies. BUT, in short order his view is gonna expand and this is a natural occurrence of a voter that is trying very hard to be as fair as they can and since this really is the culture around here for the most part I will bet his way of looking at things will be massaged a little bit in fairly short order.
Just saying voters that have been through a season or even 1/2 a season begin to show much less bias and if you look at the ballots of a "Poll perfection" type then that is what you usually see.

Excellent advice! For all of use to consider when voting. To be fair, I went back and noticed I had 6 CAA teams in my preseason poll as well. When it comes to the last few positions, it's pretty easy to rationalize which bubble team you select particularly preseason when not a single game has been played yet.

In 2015, maybe so. 2016 I think I would have predicted 3. Chatty would have been a no brainer, and The Citadel was coming off an excellent season. With the historic success of Wofford, Samford and Furman in the mix it would have been hard to justify less than 3. You have to consider that the CAA is a 12 team conference and the SoCon only 9. It stands to reason that the larger conference will have more teams in the playoffs if you concede that the conferences are roughly comparable. It is actually hard to make qualitative judgment about the strength of the two conferences. While many teams are close geographically, they rarely play one another - almost never in regular season OOC.

YSU lost a lot. When your two starting DEs are drafted, that's a ton of talent to try to replace. They weren't a team that was carried by their offense either. They have to prove to me they are on the same level as they ended the season before I bump them up.

It is virtually a mathematical certainty that the 5th and 6th team from a 9 team conference will not make the playoffs. Every team must play every other team in the conference and the 5th team will have almost certainly have at least 4 losses , the 6th 5. Also considering that many SoCon teams play at least one SEC game that they have less than a 5% chance of winning and others play a Division 2 opponent which will not count towards playoff eligibility. I don't see more than 4 teams with 7 Div 1 wins.

As always, the sages should chip in and throw out any good tips they have for newbs to get them up to speed.
I know, as my second year in I am probably still a new guy, but I did use a spreadsheet and still dropped them off. I was probably being overly critical. Idk, time will tell. Maybe it wasn't so bad to drop them off.

UNH was under consideration. I tried to put the diversity in my poll that I know the final playoff committee seems to do, and maybe I should have had UNH in there... this poll is a work in progress for me. I am optimistic for my favorite team, and maybe top 10 was overly bearish on their outlook, but the overall poll put them there. I think YSU brings back a good squad I really do. With the question marks on DE and in the secondary though, I was more comfortable putting them a little lower and giving them the chance to prove me wrong and do well over the season. Again, I think the potential is there, just trying to be realistic given the information I have on my own school.

Exactly - and if the YapDogs from SparkleCity don't squat & wet the carpet twice in the red zone late in the game, the Penguins don't have the opportunity to come up with the miracle defender-aided catch to earn the right to get pummeled by JMU in Frisco. They were good last year, but I think Bo made a(nother) deal with a(nother) guy that wears red to get them there. I feel good putting them @ #13 and see how they start in the 1st 4 weeks.

Before you begin bashing, please recall that last August, there was 1 poster on this entire Board who was saying that the SoCon would have 4 Playoff Teams in 2016. FUBeAR endured a host of slings & arrows for making such an audacious claim. Many of those attacks came from hardcore SoCon Fans, who were really having a hard time seeing 2 Teams from the 2nd strongest conference in FCS making the Playoffs...which made no sense to this Bear of little brain. We all know how that turned out.
This is the 1st poll, as recorded this day...faithfully submitted...
That's a tad optimistic for us, methinks.

Good to finally join the fray this season. Started with last year's final poll result and used this season's individual conference preseason polls from media days the past 2 weeks to help get the ball rolling. Once you get past about 15-19 this thing really turns into a crap shoot. With that said, my preseason poll:

I am not understanding the love for Whales Vagina Toreros, yea, they will probably win their conference, BFD. I am probably doing this wrong but I attempt to pick the top 25 teams in the country, not the 24 playoff teams and the "unlucky" 25th team. I get they won a playoff game last year, but really? UC Davis is probably their toughest game this year and they suck balls, I wouldn't put these guys in my top 25 if they beat everybody by 30+. Sorry, not buying it.

A few takeaways from my poll.
I guess I am a little high on San Diego, and I think, looking back I should have put them lower around the 20 range.
I know I am low on YSU, but knowing what they lost, I don't see it as of right now so I am alright with that.
Once I hit 20, it was pick a team and find a solid reason for it.
---I chose Nicholls due to their ability to play solid teams to the wire and I think they build off last seasons success as there was only 2 games where they lost by more than 1 score, and 4 games where they lost by a FG or less. Taking #9 FBS Georgia to the wire and losing to FBS South Alabama in OT was a huge plus for why I chose them.
---I chose Fordham for Chase Edmonds. That alone gave them a huge boost plus their schedule of Army and EWU for OOC was a sign that they were willing to play outside their precious region. I kept Lehigh out, as I think Lehigh has a "down" year and Fordham represents the Patriot as long as Edmonds gets his touches and stays healthy.
---Finally, I chose Saint Francis as all of their games they were competitive and every year, we get one underdog who comes out of nowhere and surprises the field, (Wofford and San Diego 2016, Colgate and SHSU (CSU-Pueblo year) 2015, SHSU and ISUr 2014). They also have an "favorable" schedule with their toughest games being EKU and Liberty. They are my dark horse to keep and eye on.
I am fine with my poll as it was the first one of the year.
Flame away boys.

Edmonds got 27 touches last year and they lost by 3 touchdowns, would have been more but Lehigh put the second string in the fourth quarter, guess if he got 50 or 60 touches they would have won, good news this year is we don't play them until week 9, so he will no doubt be worn out from 400 or so touches by that time

Chase Edmonds Stats for each game:
32-197-6.2 5 TDs

according to NCAA, Stoney Brook ranked 3rd in defensive total yards per game and 117th in offensive total yards per game. Per Massey they played 28th ranked SOS. Per Keepers they only lose 1.4 starters on defense and 2 starters on offense .. not sure if latter is good or bad thing when your offense ranks 117th. But their defense will be very legit force this fall .. but need to score to win.

Biggest question for us is quarterback. We find a QB, we could be dangerous in the League. I don't know if we're top-to-bottom as good as Lehigh, but we've got plenty of depth, and get both the Hawks and Fordham at home.

I partly get the knock on SHSU spme seasons/games. But they have made finals twice, playing NDSU close once. Then made it to semis in 2015 .. the same year a pretty good 7-4 Colgate team won in playoffs at 7-4 UNH and then again at 9-2 JMU before getting blown out at 8-3 SHSU. An SHSU team who then got blown out by 50 at JSU .. and then JSU loses by 27 to NDSU. Does that make JMU softer in 2015 .. just one year ago ? Going bacl 6 years ... SHSU is 14-6 in playoffs since 2011 .. granted couple notable losses where they collapsed, but thats still a lot of playoff appearances and wins against playoff caliber teams.
I get a lot of this is smack talk but othr teams have laid eggs. SHSU competes at high level almost every year well into playoffs most times.

not posting my poll but i'll say that in general, i am higher on New Hampshire and Wofford than most, and lower on SHSU and Youngstown St. What Wofford did last year really, really impressed me. I only saw two of their games (The Citadel and YSU) but they can play. people forget they lost to YSU in double OT, and i believe they would have beaten EWU as i think that would have been an awful matchup for the Eagles, especially in that weather. would have played right into the Terriers' hands.
for the record, ursus, i definitely do not rank my teams based on how i think the playoffs will shake out. it would look way different if i did that.

No. I'm just wondering how UTC is 8 spots above teams they can't beat.
Also, I think YSU at 6 is pretty high considering the losses on their roster.

Some notes:
Getting that 'starters lost' stats summary helped with this pre-season exercise. I can live with my choices a bit better this year. Still...
-The Ivy League plays good ball. That said, why Harvard?
-I like that Nicholls has gotten attention, but I couldn't vote for them yet. Maybe they can make some noise in the Southland.
-It is flat-out weird to not vote for some school in Montana... but there ya go.

That is mind-blowing. So if we extrapolate... in 2015 JMU would have lost to NDSU by a score of 2,847 - 5 in the playoffs? No doubt SH has talent and a coach that knows what he's doing. They have had really good success and will have a good team this year. This is just another case of some, that had to put up with an unpalatable amount disrespect last year, cramming their success down the throats of a few vocal agitators.
If this year's SH turns out to be our Buster Douglas then JMU will just have to go out and get f****d up face tats and start biting off some Bison ears. If, however, they end up getting teabagged in the playoffs again then I'm afraid Dirty may only get worse. Either way, we win yo.

Much closer to the truth than little man
Well you guys lost to the weakest playoff team I've ever seen and then won it all the following year. Time will tell.
I'd argue a team who lost 65-7 is the weakest playoff team I've ever seen.
Listen Gomer Pyle, The Pod really believes the Richmond Spiders are that good.
They lost their head coach, best WR, and their QB is coming back from an injury. I mean, don't get me wrong, the Spatters will Spatter but I don't get why you guys are so high on them unless you know you're weak af and are sandbagging.

I was going to put Sammy at #1 because when we play you guys the fourth game of the year AFTER you beat the spatters, we can move up from #13 to number 11....xlolx ......won't be top 10 because if you lose to us the whole SLC is doomed to drop in the rankings. xlolx It'll be subtraction by addition.

exacty .. your slightly exaggerated ( xrolleyesx ) extrapolation makes the point .. every very good team lays an egg or runs into buzz saw once in a while. Further note, of their 6 playoff losses, 4 are to teams that won the natty.
not judging the situations where people are just smack talking back and forth .. but if my Redbirds were 14-2 in playoffs against teams who didn't win the natty that year .. I'd feel real good about that. And whle they haven't won it, their playoff record has to be up there with NDSU's and EWUs the past 7 years.

Interesting how you take such offence to someone's opinion that another CAA team might be better going into the 2017 season that JMU. Dude, get a grip. Life is too short to stress out over internet opinions.

Dude, just noticed you "RIP" signature. I'm actually excited to see you guys pull in Rocco, I think it's going to be the linchpin that brings the CAA back. Getting Delaware back to old form, Richmond not skipping much of a beat with their hire, and JMU hopefully holding on to Houston for a couple more seasons will really raise the water for all boats. Welcome back from the dead y'all.

Thanks, Delaware fans are relieved to finally be rid of the last piece of the Three Ring football horror show (just thought about Rocco Horror Picture Show...haha, lets hope not) when Brock got the boot last year, Dave was a dunce on all levels.... hired by AD Zaidy after a fake national search, and Zaidy was the axe man that the bumbling president Harker brought in to fire KC Keeler.... it was bad...and to think such an esteemed college football program could be torn down by nothing more than petty jealousy is a story that would make a good back, problem is there might not be to many Hens fans around or alive to read it...
not changing the signature until I see something to be excited about and for me a new Coach is just not it....

I had Wofford 4th and UNH 6th. Both are inline for big years imo.... UNH lost their known players, RB Crossan, TE Jordan Powell and CB and return specialist Casey DeAndrade No one is putting anyone from UNH on any level AA preseason team and I get it, our best players are too young - FR and SO last season. But, I suspect you'll see some on the end of season AA teams. The 2017 version may actually have more total talent than 2015 or 16. Could be a set-up year for 2018 - I think they belong around 15 in our 2017 preseason poll.

I get some of the losses but your schedule sets up great! I think 9-2 or 8-3 is very likely for UNH this year.
It's an ok schedule but we play our 3 toughest CAA opponents on the road. Georgia Southern may be our best FCS match up since Central Mich, but you know how those things go.

not posting my poll but i'll say that in general, i am higher on New Hampshire and Wofford than most, and lower on SHSU and Youngstown St.
Some do, some don't. It does not matter to me how people do their poll as long as they have a reasoning for it. I was making a statement earlier as to differing philosophies on how it's done. I did not put an emphasis on one being correct and another not being correct.

exacty .. your slightly exaggerated ( xrolleyesx ) extrapolation makes the point .. every very good team lays an egg or runs into buzz saw once in a while. Further note, of their 6 playoff losses, 4 are to teams that won the natty.
it's not that they just ran into a buzz saw every once in a while. they lost 120ish - 17ish in their last 3 playoff losses. that's not laying an egg, that's getting exposed. that's a pretty decent sample size, considering football is only 11 games a year. and those are enormous scoring disparities. kinda hard to just say, "eh, they ran into a buzz saw." if they're so great, why aren't THEY ever the buzz saw?

I did acknowledge there are game where they collapse. I attribute that to high expectations that get deflated and snowball from there. Fact remains, they are 14-2 in playoffs against teams that didn't win natty in each year .. meaning .. everyone else lost to the team they lost to in 4 of their 6 losses. Clearly, their conference schedule doesn't prepare them for playing THE best teams, but they do really well otherwise .. better than any other team besides NDSU. Got to give them some credit.

Clearly, their conference schedule doesn't prepare them for playing THE best teams, but they do really well otherwise .. better than any other team besides NDSU. Got to give them some credit.
I guess the difference is UNH has a just as or even more impressive streak going and they don't speak or act with the same conceited hubris that almost every Soft Houston State Fan does.

Playing the victim, sure dude. Your Napoleon complex is quite entertaining to me though.

LOL, 7 ranked teams and a FBS payday out of 11 games, no wonder we'll suck forever. How the hell do you build a program against all of that?
Mo. State could join the SLC and we could ditch some bottom feeders...seriously good games.

I'd prefer to swipe one of the better HBCUs like Alcorn or Grambling. Missouri is kind of pushing the limits of "the south" in terms of geography.

Overall, I don't think it is a bad poll for preseason purposes. It all shakes out. I am sorry to have missed this year's preseason poll, but too many balls in the air on the home and work front (and if they drop my balls are in the air). I hope things calm down so I can enjoy this coming season. Go FCS!

We're less than an hour from the Arkansas border, so it wouldn't be a huge stretch.
I don't blame you for wanting HBCUs, though, a lot of history there and they have good fan turnout.

Misery St should have as much opportunity to land many of the recruits that the Dakota schools are bringing in. So, to be one of the best, need to show can beat those other MVFC teams. Nice stadium, southern most school in Valley, should be doing just fine. Even have a HC that took a good size pay cut to coach there.

To your first point, I don't think we should bother recruiting against your programs. We have little pull in our own state, let alone the upper midwest. If we're ever going to get anywhere, we need to beat out those Sun Belt/C-USA/AAC schools in AR/OK/TX for kids. I still don't think that will be enough, but we could establish a beachhead against the eastern teams and raise our floor. We hired a good coach for that, he spent over a decade recruiting those places for a major program. His contact list is long, and his name draws water.
We weren't beating too many Gateway teams before you all showed up, and you all came in with longstanding credibility in D-II. Our football program was dragged up for the benefit of the basketball program. Football is the third most popular sport in the Ozarks for multiple reasons, and I can lay them out if you like. Anyway, local talent is thin on the ground, even if we do find the occasional All-American here. To tie this paragraph up, we weren't winning battles with UNI and the Illinois schools for kids along I-70 15 years ago, so why should we expect to beat NDSU and SDSU in the same areas now?
I wouldn't take the supposed caliber of coach who accepts this job as an indication of its quality. Randy Ball and Terry Allen are two of the winningest coaches in Gateway/MVFC history and they accomplished nothing here. Del Miller was Bill Snyder's right hand man, and privy to the heavy lifting of the greatest college football turnaround of the 20th century. He went almost .500 here, which is a damn miracle but he still had to grovel at Bob Simmons' feet just to get back into coaching after what our program did to his career. (If you don't know who Bob Simmons is, I don't blame you. If you do, you know how sad that situation is.)
I see two ways to be a successful football coach at Missouri State: 1) pray to God you're removed from the Valley or 2) hope the admins allow you to take every questionable Big 12 transfer available. Frankly, our football team should be in the MIAA right now, and the NCAA should allow athletic departments to place their teams in divisions independent of each other. Unfortunately, the NCAA disagrees, so we're canned tuna for real football programs, which will probably never change.

Maybe. I like his approach. I just hope the 9 other people who care about this program understand why our record this year will be similar to last year. I've talked with people around town who think we should be in the playoff hunt this year. That's...premature. I've pegged '18 as the pivotal year since he was hired.

Patience can really pay off. There isn't a person who would have pegged the Jacks as being a mainstay in the top 25 when they made the jump, and Coach Stig had a track record of mediocre. Things can change but it takes time sometimes.

Stec's current contract runs through 2021, and our last coach was given nine years. If anything, we may be a bit too patient. It was obvious by about 2012, maybe 2011 that Allen's approach had grown stale, and it was a drag on recruiting for several years.

exacty .. your slightly exaggerated ( xrolleyesx ) extrapolation makes the point .. every very good team lays an egg or runs into buzz saw once in a while. Further note, of their 6 playoff losses, 4 are to teams that won the natty.
not judging the situations where people are just smack talking back and forth .. but if my Redbirds were 14-2 in playoffs against teams who didn't win the natty that year .. I'd feel real good about that. And whle they haven't won it, their playoff record has to be up there with NDSU's and EWUs the past 7 years.
bump to remind Pod and MillemiumKat about my argument in favor of what SHSU has accomplished despite playing a typically soft SOS.
My point is you can have a quality win against a weak team ... blow them out like you should. So I defended how good SHSU has been over past 7 years .. IMO, 2nd to NDSU and slighly ahead of EWU over past 7 seasons, as the top 3 teams. I also speculated that the reason SHSU may struggle when they finally play a really good team, is their schedule didn't prepare them for toughest games .. inferring, they weren't as bad as the isolated blowout score would suggest. If you aren't used to fighting like wild dogs to win, the first tie it happens, you're going to have trouble dealing with it. That all said, I argued SHSU has been the 2nd best FCS program since 2010.
But if you (i.e. NC A&T) beat a team ranked 300+ by just 2 and another ranked 230 or so by just 11 .. you have no business being in top 25.
Not whining about any team I have an interest like ISU or fellow MVFC teams. Criticising a very flawed polling system and suggesting alternative ideas.

An NC A&T fan pointed out on other thread that I got my wires crossed after a couple posts on this topic. I had it right 1st couple posts, then mixed up Tenn St and NC A&T schedules .. above schedule reflects Tenn St, not NC A&T ... sorry for confusion.
