Probably a non-televised game, like NAU.

We'll know soon...

Also, what is the point of these games?

Gives mid-majors a showcase. For some teams, like in the feature games, this gives them a chance to play a marquee opponent ahead of the tournament to help their resume. It can really help some teams, may hurt a few others, hence the 'Bracketbuster' terminology...

Also helps with scheduling as being part of the Bracketbusters means whomever you play this year will be on your schedule next year. If SHSU travels to Marist, next year, Marist would come to Huntsville.

Is that how we got Texas Tech to come to Huntsville in the near future?

I wish Western Kentucky was in Bracket Buster but could not come to Northern Arizona because of scheduling conflicts.

Nope. High-majors are not in. It's 16 other conferences...WAC, MAC, SoCon, SLC, America East, Horizon, etc. Not all conferences are in it should be noted...

Texas Tech did a two for one with SHSU where we go up there twice (2006 and 2008) while they come to Huntsville in '07. Apparently they did a similar deal with Lamar to begin next year...

Demons still waiting on BracketBusters opponent
Town Talk sports services

Northwestern State knows it will not be on TV when it participates in ESPN's annual BracketBusters event, but that's about all the Demons know.

As of Monday evening, pairings for the event had not been released. NSU and Southland Conference officials, though, had been informed that the Demons and fellow SLC member Sam Houston State would not be playing in one of the 14 games to be televised on ESPN networks.

Now in its fifth year, BracketBusters will match up more than 100 teams from across the country in games on Feb. 16 and 17. NSU is designated a road team in this year's event, which means whatever team the Demons face will play at Prather Coliseum next season. The Demons played at Utah State in last season's BracketBusters, then hosted the Aggies in the season opener in the return game this year.

Ideally, teams will be matched up based on geography and similar ratings percentage index. The Demons' main concern is not getting stuck with a long and expensive road trip, like the one they made to Utah State last season.

Possible opponents for the Demons include Loyola-Chicago, Drake,
Samford, Ilinois State, Tenn. Tech and Ill.-Chicago.

Probably a non-televised game, like NAU.

Isn't it great to be in the BIG SKY when it comes to ESPN! Montana also will not be on TV. Coach Tinkle commented on it tonight very briefly. He said that the GRIZ and the whole conference are disappointed, and feel let down by ESPN.

A few years ago, Larry Krystkowiak commented that Bracketbusters was a pain for scheduling in middle of conference season. The BSC did not have much more gain, either way it is a 1 bid conference. As it turns out LK appears be closer to on the money than ESPN is/was.

I honestly hope the BSC withdraws from this mockery. Fact is whoever wins the conference tourney goes to the dance. I would like this more if it allowed non major schools play midranked majors. I think that would serve much more purpose for college basketball. Or are the big boys too scared to get beat before March Madness?

Big Sky Fan...

You guys are rated #24 as a conference. Only one conference better than my SLC. Highest RPI is 137 with Idaho St. NO teams in the Mid Major Top 25 either. Highest team is #43 when you count the ARVs.

You fellas have no reason to be complaining about lack of TV. You guys have to worry more about winning OOC games and doing better during that part of the season to improve your status...

This year is a down year for the Big Sky - we have ranked as high as 15 in the near recent past. Weber State and Montana have won tourney games in the past 10 years, and NAU came within 10 seconds TWICE as a 15 seed.

Just announced...

SHSU @ Fresno State

Fresno St will be coming to Huntsville in 2007 along with UC-Irvine and Texas Tech. This is an opponent that are students and alumni have heard about and will be a great addition to both this year's schedule and next...

Fresno St is 116 compared to SHSU's 112 in the RPI. Mutual opponent in UC-Irvine, who they defeated. Started the year 7-0 which included wins over San Fransisco and Oregon State. Has wins over Creighton and Utah St. Fell as low as they did due to a 4-4 campaign in WAC play thus far.

-------------
Also, NWST @ Tennessee Tech...

NATCHITOCHES -- Northwestern State will visit 13-9 Tennessee Tech on Saturday night, Feb. 17, in the 2007 BracketBusters.

Tip time is likely 7:30 p.m. following a 5:30 womens' game, said TTU officials Tuesday morning.

The Golden Eagles have impressive wins over Wisconsin-Milwaukee (78-68), Bradley (86-84) and the Big Ten Conference's Northwestern (66-65). They have a seven-game winning streak and a 9-4 record in the Ohio Valley Conference.

I think facilities has something to do with it. The BSC has horrible basketball arenas as a whole, WSU and UM being the only ones I feel are "presentable" on TV. That might have something to do with it.

WSU has two wins in the tourney in the past 12 years. Montana the one. We were practically favored one year in a game that we lost against Wisconsin. In those two years with tourney wins, we were .5 seconds away from the sweet sixteen in one (damn Iverson tip in), and lost in overtime in the other.

As I said in another post, the BSC could be a sixteen seed for the first time in a long time. If WSU wins, though, history might put them as a #14, especially if we win out.

As far as Bracketbusters go, I don't see any reason for the BSC to be televised. I do like the concept, though. The Utah State, Oral Roberts game will be fun to watch.

I hear the tickets for the Iona-Delaware game are selling faster than the Blue Hens football team's exit from the AGS Top 25 poll. Mr. Chicken, if you aren't a season ticket holder or haven't already gotten your ticket for this classic matchup on Feb. 17, you better get into the chickenmobile and head on over to the ticket office. and getcha a couple tickets in Section 17 next to the outgoing Prez. This shapes up to be a triple overtime thriller.
