The motto of the University of North Dakota team has been “Day by Day” since the arrival of coach Bubba Schweigert and his staff in January 2014.
Today, though, is a lot different than yesterday. Following last year’s co-championship in the Big Sky Conference and their first-ever FCS playoff appearances, the Fighting Hawks are facing much higher expectations heading into the 2017 season.

Seems like everybody is on the North Dakota bandwagon. Looks like the top of the conference might be really good. WTH has happened to Montana State?

Lousy defenses (not necessarily the players) for several years --> first losing season in 15(?) years --> fire coaches --> New coaching staff, schemes, players last year. We thought we had a good O and if the D improved we'd be competitive, but then our QB grad transferred to Oregon...And I think the problems on our team were deeper than we realized.

I think we'll see considerable improvement this year, but I'm not sure it will be reflected in the W/L record since we have one of the tougher schedules in the conference. I think it will be another year before we can (hopefully) compete for the conf champ and playoffs.

We played a lot of youngsters last year. I think our coaches have us headed in the right direction, but just like a new recruit, we won't really know for a couple years.
