Another conference loss by the Herd the other night in a lackluster performance at home against Denver, 67-61. Really too bad we can't transfer the intensity of the football program into the BB program. Watched it on TV, snooze fest in front of about 1000 people. Weather was bad which is half of the problem up here for winter sports.

There is something more than bad weather. We used to have people up to the rafters in the BSA in the woodside era a decade ago, and instead of capitalizing on the momentum we were like, nah **** it. NDSU needs a basketball genius coach and the funds to pay him like $750,000/yr if they ever wanna build something. Reality is its an ass-terrible job and the support just isn't there. And without the support, there will never be anything more than some streaky success and maybe a single tournament win every couple decades.

I don't think UCA could ever shoot like that again like they did tonight, but they sure picked the right team to play against to have one of those kinds of nights.

16-27 from 3 for the Bears

Howard with 43 for UCA
Bogues with 31 for SFA

Heck of a game tonight. Glad to see a W finally against SFA. Gonna miss Howard next year. UCA has shot that well in previous games. They took UCLA to overtime. I think they play to the level of their competition. So much talent and I'm glad Pennell has the program back on track. UCA was a decent NAIA and Division II power but for some reason our men's team can't match the success of the women's team. Strange.

Really good game though. Gotta watch it on replay soon.

Bucknell won at Navy 87-67, breaking a string of nail-biters against the Mids in Annapolis. The Bison start the second round of League play at second-place Boston on Sunday in a noon CBS Sports Network game. The tiebreaker with Boston is up for grabs, as the Terriers upset the Bison in Lewisburg January 2nd.

I had the Raiders in the top three this season. I watched the Bison game at Cottrell on CBSSN. Is there anything that can be done about attendance?

Usually students turn out some for TV games, but that one was over the break (the semester just started), which definitely hurt.

Otherwise, probably not. If we get a home game for the tournament, that would probably draw a nice crowd, but it needs to be an event for folks to show up.

This story talks about Northern Colorado- but it could be most of the schools in the country.

I'm dumbfounded. Not a basketball fan at all, but I follow my Bulldogs, because they are my Bulldogs. We usually win 3 or 4 games a year. We are like one of 5 original teams that have never gone to the NCAA tournament since its inception. Maybe one day. But in the last three games, we just knocked off Mercer, almost beat ETSU (SOCON leader and probably close to a top 50 team), and we just beat Wofford, who has already knocked off Ga Tech and UNC. Hmm. Maybe things are finally starting to turn. That would be refreshing.

After Northwestern made it last year, that list is down to four. Army, St. Francis NY, William & Mary and the Bulldogs.

Army was invited in 1968 … but Bobby Knight turned down the invitation to play in the NIT because they'd have a better shot at winning since Lew Alcindor was with UCLA.

The Summit regular season is coming down to 11-1 SDSU and 11-2 USD. The two play each other in Brookings Feb. 22.They are clearly the cream of the crop in the Summit. They ought to just get the rest of the teams to bow out and just play each other for the championship.

I am back home in New England for family stuff, but I broke away yesterday to go to Worcester to watch Bucknell play Holy Cross. The Bison won, 68-67, in OT. Holy Cross, running with a short bench, due to three suspensions, played flat-out, even with multiple guys with four fouls for most of the second half. Bucknell remains four games ahead of Navy and Colgate, but Lehigh, the hottest team in the league, seems destined to square off with the Bison in the semis, assuming they both get past their quarterfinal opponents.

The Hart Center is a newer facility, but one glance up and you can see the history, as Bob Cousy's number hangs there with a couple national tournament championship banners. Very cool.

Started strong and never looked back. Raiders thump Loyola 68-47 to stay in 2nd place (well, technically tied with Navy, but the 'Gate swept the Mids).

2 regular season games to go, both home. Up first, Army on Wednesday.

Recruiting has dropped off since Saul left, not just in talent but athleticism as well. Miller is the last of his recruits and things look bleak next year. Some of the new recruits do look promising but we have a massive void in the post, Richman seems clueless about how to develop post talent.

Sad thing is the program was set up after the NCAA tournament win and we dropped the ball.

The only thing I will say about Miller versus the previous "leaders" is that he doesn't make anyone around him better in comparison to guys like Woodside, Braun, Alexander, etc. Nobody can put the team on their shoulders and win a ballgame....you get guys like AJ etc. that just stare at each other waiting for someone to take over.

Syracuse lost to UNC last night so their backs are against the wall to get an at-large. After getting crushed by Houston last weekend Temple's bubble is basically burst at this point.

Of the 3 teams that I follow (Orange, Owls and Mountain Hawks), Lehigh might have the best shot at making it into the Madness.

The win wrapped up the #2 seed for the upcoming tournament. Raiders will wait for their Thursday night quarterfinal opponent, the winner of Tuesday's game between Lafayette and American.

Loyola hung with Bucknell the entire game, before succumbing 83-78. The Bison played the game without three players, who were serving a suspension for violating team rules. Two those players, Bruce Moore and Avi Toomer, have seen lots of playing time all season. It is not yet clear when those players will be reinstated.

That said, I am betting it will be today that those suspensions end, in time for all-BU rubber match. Boston University is the only team to defeat Bucknell at home this season, on January 2nd, 84-79. The Bison handled Boston in Boston start to finish January 28th, 91-79. There's lots of intrigue (relatively speaking-we're no Holy Cross) regarding the suspensions on the Bucknell board, but Nathan Davis is pretty low-drama.

Bucknell drubbed Boston University, 90-59, avenging their sole home loss of the season. Stephen Brown had a monster game, 26 points even as Zach Thomas, Patriot League POY, had a quiet game, playing with a face shield, due to an injury sustained against Loyola in the quarters.

I have watched the Bison play a bunch this year, including the last match with Colgate. Today they were as complete a team as has played all year. Colgate has its work cut out for it. Bucknell has sold out its ticket allotment. I hope the Raiders travel well. It promises to be a barnburner.

Yeah slim but there's always a chance. The Bison are capable of playing great they just haven't done it an entire game all season and I don't see it happening tonight either. That first half last night is how they should play all the time, players were cutting without the ball, passes were on point and they were hitting their shots and playing great defense. Then they played the last 15 minutes not to lose and damn near did. Don't get me started on Richman's substitutions either.

Temple concluded the regular season yesterday with a 76-58 loss at Tulsa. We finished the year losing 4 out of final 5 games to end up 16-14 overall, 8-10 in the AAC. The vast majority of Temple fans want Fran Dunphy to either retire or be fired. His time has come imo. This will be 4 missed tournaments in 5 years and there's no indication that's changing under the current regime.

We're the 7th seed in the AAC tournament and play Tulane on Thursday.

I watched the first half and about 10 minutes of the 2nd half.

NDSU mens program has really slipped since the middle of last year when they were rolling in the conference.

NDSU mens and women's programs are not good right now.

Other than the basketball programs the track and field teams are as good as always. Softball is good and baseball is average as normal.

Back when I was coaching girls we played our big rival in the district championship. Late in the third quarter we decided to put in our B team, which was small and fast while our starters were big and slower. They thought that they would run them over and actually lost ground. The opponents were screaming at each other- "C'mon, this is their B team!" Our starters got their rest and were all fired up to get back in. We won the title going away.

I think USD felt that with Daum out they should get the lead instead of getting buried.

Got the hammer dropped tonight. Raiders played tough in the beginning, but could sink enough baskets when the Bison were struggling offensively. Bison played good defense, but we also missed some open looks.

Bucknell goes the dance, and the Raiders...well, I guess we're still in the conversation (maybe) for one of the small tournaments also going on. No idea how any of them really work, so we'll see.

Something like the CBI notwithstanding, season ends at 19-14, which is a school record for wins. Lots to be proud of this year, including finishing #2 in the league and making a run to the title game. Some key seniors, O'Brien and Swopshire graduate, but some key guys are coming back like Rayman, Burns, and Regisford. Lengel has done a great job building the program over his time here, and there is plenty to be optimistic about for the future.

After a slow start, Bucknell throttled Colgate, in the end, in a manner little different than their dismantling of Boston University on Sunday. These seniors have been a thrill to watch so far. Going into the NCAA tournament they'll likely be a 14 seed. This team was compared tonight to the 2005 and 2006 teams that beat Kansas and Arkansas respectively- by John Griffin, now a Bison as assistant coach but also a member of those teams. Bring it on.

You have to feel like Colgate is built for the future, with an ace of a coach and some brilliant underclassmen in Rayman and Petrie. It was a pretty awful year of hoops in the PL, outside of Hamilton and Lewisburg. Let's hope it all picks up.

Heck of a game last night Jacks. You could see the team chemistry you had with those passes. UCA has talent but very little chemistry. All year we were just trying to get a score instead of setting things up and blocking out on a rebound. Oklahoma making the tourney means that the selection committee doesn't follow their own criteria. That is nothing new. As Charles Barkley asked, if Oklahoma had been 3-7 instead of 2-8 in their last ten games, would they have gotten a one seed? Clearly, they are not finishing well.

I attended one of the A-10 Tournament semifinals (St. Joseph's/Rhode Island) and the A-10 Tournament championship game (Davidson/Rhode Island) this past weekend. (I follow all of the Philadelphia Big Five/City Six teams in basketball as well as Lehigh and Lafayette, though I'll note St. Joe's is my favorite of the bunch, closely followed by Penn and then Lehigh. As for the title game, I won tickets after signing up at an A-10 booth at the BB&T Classic game back in early December featuring Temple and George Washington, a game seemingly only a few hundred people attended. That game was also one of the Owls' ****ty losses this season.) If the Hawks had only been able to get stops and prevent offensive rebounds on the defensive end down the stretch, they would have beaten the URI Rams. Ugh. At least both games I attended were very good and competitive.

I ended up seeing six of the NCAA Tournament teams in person this year:

*Villanova (#1 seed): at Georgetown
*Rhode Island (#7 seed): vs St. Joseph's (N), vs Davidson (N)
*Alabama (#9 seed): vs Texas-Arlington
*Davidson (#12 seed): vs Rhode Island (N)
*Stephen F. Austin (#14 seed): at Mississippi State
*Penn (#16 seed): at Howard

There is one notable thing about this year's NCAA Tournament that deserves a mention; this is the first year since 1978 that the six DC area Division I basketball teams (Maryland, Georgetown, George Washington, George Mason, American, Howard) were collectively shut out of the men's NCAA Tournament. None of them were even selected for the NIT (a moderate surprise for Maryland, who probably was near the cut line for the NIT and was knocked out when a relatively high number of non-#1 seeds in one bid conferences, 12 such teams I believe, did not win their conference tournaments).

As someone who likes to mock DC area college basketball largely due many of the schools' unwillingness to play each other (particularly Maryland/Georgetown, Georgetown/George Washington, and to a lesser degree Georgetown/George Mason), which is in strong contrast to what happens with the Philadelphia area schools (where the Big Five schools play a full round-robin and some of those schools also play Drexel on a regular or semi-regular basis), I can't say I'm disappointed by the DC area schools' collective failure this season.

P.S. The six Philadelphia area schools, represented this season by Villanova and Penn, extended their collective streak of making the NCAA Tournament to 41 seasons. The last time the Philadelphia area schools were shut out of the NCAA Tournament was 1977. The area has usually had two or more teams qualify during that stretch too (34 of 41 seasons).

xlolx The Jackrabbits little bitches will be living off that win for decades xlolx xlolx xlolx

Man when we do get a win y’all are going to fall back on USeD tactics of complaining that God and Tom Douple only want SDSU to win xcoffeex

Sent from my iPhone using TapatalkI wouldn't say we are exactly your bitches, NDSU lead the head to head 20-12 since 2004 (that is as far back as the gobison site goes). There, I went all UND Fighting Hawk on your ass and pulled out a completely meaningless number to prove the awesome, dominant power the mighty Bison have over the Jacks.

Colgate made the CBI? Colgate made the CBI! Postseason basketball!

First postseason appearance since going to the NCAAs in 1996.

Raiders out at San Francisco on Wednesday. Go 'Gate!

Eh, 5 our of 7 SLT championships is the number I care about more :D.

Tbh if I’m a Bison fan (or yotes) I’m hoping the Jacks get to the Sweet 16 so Daum leaves and Otz gets snagged by another program. If Jenkins is any indicator of the recruits Otz is bringing in, watch out.

TBH the farther SDSU goes in the tournament the better the conference looks. So, I'm all for a deep run. Plus NDSU had a mediocre to be wildly generous basketball team. We didn't deserve ****. I'm glad the SD teams are proping up the conference. Hopefully we figure out our **** in the next couple seasons.

We are going to lose 63-14. We are going to throw 10 INTs and be held to only 1 Zenner. Naters won’t Nate and the Dauminators won’t Daum. #BookIt

I don't think about things that may never happen. ;)

But if for some strange happenstance that occurs due to I don't know the earths poles shifting or something catastrophic like the Yellowstone eruption then **** no I would never root for UND!:D

Wasn't UND in the dance last year, yea, it is the BSC but the Summit isn't that much tougher than the BSC.

Third time that the Wolves beat my Mavs this year. Close but no cigar- didn't hit free throws down the stretch.

I plan on going to Sioux Falls Monday and Tuesday- women's Elite 8 the first day, men's Elite 8 the second.

USD loses to North Texas in 1st round of CBI. Horrendous effort by Coyotes, they got dominated by a UNT team with a losing record, really makes the Summit look great doesn’t it.
I read some USD posts on their forum and a few think HC Craig Smith will leave now, if so they’ll become a dumpster fire without him and Mooney next year.

FCS'er URI took out Oklahoma in OT. Young had his moments but overall URI did a good job keeping him in check. The Rams now get a shot at Duke.

Loyola Chicago stepped up and won a thriller over Da U! The Ramblers maintain the MVC's reputation as a tough out...

SDSU clawed their way back to tie the game but back-2-back terrible fouls on 3 point shots killed the 'Jacks chances. One of those fouls resulted in a 4 point play for the Buckeyes. SDSU had a great chance in this one...ugh....

No they weren't, Jenkins clearly hit the guys arm on the first and the other one was pretty obvious when both guys hit the ground. xlolx
