... in the wake of the Rick Pitino scandal. They will also vacate almost 50 wins besides the title. But is the NCAA underperforming in terms of discipline? Or are they themselves overrated on its own? xdontknowx xrolleyesx

Personally, I've lost a lot of faith in the NCAA ... with what they just did," Pitino said.

Hes got to be kidding. LOL

Question for anyone-

When the NCAA vacates a title, why don't they give it to the runner-up? After all, the second place team wasn't convicted of cheating. If I followed the rules and lost in the title game I don't see why I can't call myself the champion.

There must be some logical explanation why they don't but- oh yah, it is the NCAA and I just used the term logic. My fault.

My guess: vacated games are a lot simpler than forfeited games because, for the most part, it only requires the punished school to change their record books. Forfeited games (changing wins to losses & visa-versa) require every school that played the punished school to change their record books. That would create a lot of record discrepancies between schools since some athletic departments are better at dealing with this sort of thing than others, and changing past records probably isn't a high priority for most of them.

Also, as far as the championship, you can still argue the runner-up didn't earn it on the court. For example: the team that lost to UL in the Final-4 could argue they would've beaten the runner up, etc.

They should make them forfeit their win from the JSU game. That would make us undefeated in the tourney. :D

Sex parties. Good thing that UNC just gave out free grades instead of STDs so they can maintain their title.

So sex parties make you lose a national title but fakes classes to keep players eligible are a non issue? You go NCAA!!!

Boise State got in trouble a few years ago. Someone slept on a couch during a visit and someone else used a water hose from the university to wash their car. Sounds like capital offenses to me. The NCAA is so inconsistent and yet their administration makes big bucks.

so both Louisville and Boise State were dinged for improper use of hose/hoes

Vacating a title that has already been played for is stupid.

You can't un-play the game.

IMO if you win a title by cheating, the only proper punishment is to strip that title.

UNC provided access to fake grades for all students, not just athletes. The fact that non-athletes weren't told about it was not the NCAA's concern.
Louisville only provided sex parties to athletes - obvious violation to the NCAA.

Imagine if they had a mass orgy for all students- they could have skated.

So does this mean there is no National Champion for 2013?

Yes. Rather than award the prize to the runner up, they just leave it empty.

That makes sense. The runner up is not necessarily the best remaining team. In many tournaments, semifinal games may actually represent the de facto championship. In fact, it is possible, although extremely unlikely, that each team the champion beat in earlier rounds is better than the runner-up.
