View Full Version : Worst trade in Philadelphia sports history...

More often than not, Philadelphia's major sports teams are on the ***** end of trades that wind up being one-sided. Some are obvious (Curt Schilling for Travis Lee, Omar Daal and Vincente Padilla), others are not so obvious (the Eric Lindross deal that led to Colorado winning a couple of Cups).
Just to name a few of them...
76ers: Wilt Chamberlain to the LA Lakers for... ah who cares??
Eagles: Sonny Jurgenson to the 'Skins for Norm Snead
Flyers: See Lindross comment above
Phillies: Too numerous to list..
What do the Philly sports fans think was the worst trade ever?
I'm going with the Phils trading for SS Ivan DeJesus from the Cubbies for Larray Bowa, and why the hell not toss in some 2B named Ryne Sandberg?

The Phillies managed to trade away Fergusen Jenkins for a pitcher who I can't remember. Which is typical of the Phillies and my memory . This is a great idea for a thread. :)
How about an All Star team of the players the Phillies traded away. No need to remember the non - entities the Phillies got in return :o :(

The DeJesus for Bowa and Sandberg gets my vote.

The Chamberlain trade... for the likes of Jerry Chambers... Archie Clark and Darrall Imhoff has to be the worst.

Like blukeys, I'm old enough to remember the mid-60s Fergie Jenkins for Larry Jackson deal, when the Phils mortgaged their future (so what else is new?) in an effort to "win it now." In more recent times, I'm tempted to mention the Scott Rolen trade. All Scott did was lead the Cards to the Series last year.
I have an idea for a new thread!!

As a Diamondback fan, we thank the Phillies for the Curt Schilling trade, and the ensuing World Series Ring.
Don't forget the Charles Barkley for ?? trade that came close to getting the Suns a ring as well.

I'm still bitter about the Schilling deal because the Phils got jack-***** in return (Travis Lee??? C'mon, the guy is uncoachable).
As for Barkley, there are surprisingly few hard feelings in Philly about that deal. The a$$hole had worn out his welcome in Philly and the fans were just sick and tired of his crap. Everybody wanted him gone and nobody cared how. That's why that deal, as one-sided as it was, elicits few murmurs among Philly fans.

It is still early, but the Sixers trading for Chris Webber seems to not be going too well. He might still work out there, but I really don't see it happening.

One of the better trades Philly got was Steve Carlton in exchange for Rick Wise.

I'm still inclined to go with the Ferguson Jenkins trade, although the Sandberg deal is close--Jenkins is in the Hall and Sandberg will be. The Phils gave away a number of years, floundering until 1973 when they started to rebuild around Carlton. Rolen had to go, he was a malcontent though his defensive skills are up there with Brooks and Schmitty and his offense has great potential to put him in the Hall, too.
Dealing Chamberlain was also huge loss, but, again, there were a lot of issues that forced that trade.
