Yeah, I was a little surprised myself to find that Elon and Wofford are closer to ASU than WCU. Boone may be close to parts of VA and TN, but there's a whole lot of NC to the southwest of the town. It's all mountains down that way, too, so the roads tend to be small, steep, and curvy compared to most major highways.
Boone to Murphy, the south-western-most town in NC's 'nose', is almost 200 miles, only 45 of which are on an interstate.
But, travel southeast from Boone, and you have larger highways like 321 and 421, with easier access to interstates. That's what makes it so much easier to get to places like Greensboro or Spartanburg.

Don't forget Harvard, kind of a toss up distance wise with Northeastern. Might even be closer if using the stadium locations rather than campus location?

We used to use JHU's field back in the day before traveling to turf stadiums.
Morgan State is still closer to Towson than Hopkins, though Hopkins is more of a straight drive South on Charles St.
Kinda off topic, but how is JHU allowed to play D.I Lacrosse, but D.III other sports?

DIII and DII can move 1 men's and 1 women's sport to DI without moving the whole athletic department as long as it's not football or basketball.
A few DI hockey schools do this.

How far is it from Parsons Field (Northeastern) to Harvard Stadium? That might challenge for the closest. I think it is less than 5.2 miles.
Before BU dropped football, their Nickerson Field and Harvard Stadium probably would be the closest stadiums. Can't even be a mile as the crow flies.

Next season's closest game for EKU is actually against an FBS school...Kentucky. That one is probably less than 30 minutes in drive time.
Our closest FBS opponent SHOULD be Morehead State which is less than an hour away, but they are obviously playing in the PFL rather than the OVC for football.
Transitional WKU is about 2:30 in drive time...maybe three hours. I haven't done that drive in a few years since I graduated.
Outside of those it's probably one of those Tennessee OVC schools.
