DOVER -- Kenny Kern said he wasn't expecting Mississippi State football coach Sylvester Croom to put in a good word for him. After all, Kern was one of several players to leave the Bulldogs after a disappointing 3-8 season under the first-year coach.
But when Croom was contacted by Delaware State coach Al Lavan in January about Kern, Croom couldn't help but recommend him to his friend at DSU.
Kern, who received his release from his scholarship at Mississippi State, said the conversation between Lavan and Croom must have been powerful. The 5-foot-11, 235-pound linebacker said he is transferring to DSU, where he will finish his college career next season. He said he would be signing his transfer papers this weekend..................
