It saddens me when any school drops football. Especially so the way that it was mishandled there. Glad to see it back.

My greatest gaming achievement was winning the national championship with UAB in year 2 of a dynasty run in NCAA Football 2003.
I simulated all of the games, and the B-/B-/C+ Blazers beat 3 #1's that year - FSU, Louisville and Ohio State in the NCG.
IOW, I am a complete nerd (and yes, UAB should hire me)

It is neat, doesn't matter how good/bad they are. The way that was handled was scary for schools/programs that are part of a system, or in a state, where the "big dog" controls things. It was a warning to all of us to watch our backs.
To see them back is a massive, short term, victory for us all.

This assumes that UAB is stronger than Alabama State and Alabama A&M. Are you sure about that?
Even without the SWAC teams, I'm not sure UAB would be 6th.
1 - Alabama
2 - Auburn
3/4 - Jacksonville State
3/4 - Troy
5 - South Alabama
6/7 - Samford
6/7 - North Alabama
8 - UAB?

As long as Finis St.John and Paul Brayant Jr. and company are around, UAB will continue to get the short end of the stick.
