Did they expect a drop to FCS to be perceived well enough to just open up pocket books? That'll happen at any university.
If they start winning again, fans will start to care again. Probably even more than before.

I don't understand why they didn't pre forecast the donation decline when they announced moving back down to FCS. While the Sun Belt opponents weren't big time games they did offer Idaho the chance to schedule an occasional home/away series with other mid major programs. Going back down to FCS they don't have that option and donors who are pissed that after a Bowl Winning Season they're no longer playing in the top division and recruiting against other regionally opponents with better facilities the chances of winning in the Big Sky are slim. At least by being an FBS member Idaho could reach for high level FCS talent and sell them on the notion of playing 3 money games per season on the road and the chance at possibly playing in a bowl game which for a few guys was worth the risk but how do you sell the NCAA Playoffs as a strong possibility with Eastern Washington, Cal Poly, Montana, Weber State and North Dakota all in the conference and all have better facilities and history.

I think it's more complicated than just losing donor money, but you are correct. I also think that they greedily want to keep the same incoming money that they currently have in FBS even after they move down to FCS, which is ridiculous.

Anyone that thinks I-DA-HO was going to survive in FBS is nuts.
