I agree about ACU and how they will handle this. IMO, Baylor football and Louisville basketball should have been given the death penalty.

After what happened to SMU so many years ago, I don't think any program will get the death penalty again.

True. But if any program deserves it, my vote would go to Baylor.

Baylor is still under investigation by the NCAA. They probably won't get the death sentence but it will be interesting to see how severely they are punished. What's the NCAA equivalent of life without parole?

If they didn't give Penn State the death penalty for covering for a child molester for decades, I think we can safely assume the DP is off the table for FBS football for now on.

The Razorbacks had three transfer in that group and SFA got the former Arkansas RB Juan Day 6-1; 214 *** #40 RB; #3 State (AR.) <Rivals>

He has only played in 1 game in his time there (4 carries for 17 yards) so we will see. With the departure of Easly to North Texas, the coaching staff wanted to bring in another running back.

I don't mean this to be offensive SFA, but 27 Transfers? Yikes.

Dean didn't play in a game for the Razorbacks, but he was just a RS-Fr last year. I assume he will be in our rotation this year but probably not as a starter. He was a 247 Sports Consensus 3 star player with offers from a couple of SEC and B12 schools out of high school.

Our two O Line transfers and the juco punter we picked up appear to have the best shot at starting. If we add a corner back or two in July, that's another area of need.

I think our transfer situation looks like this:

FBS 5
JUCO 1 +1 in January.
D2 1

We are supposed to pick up a couple of more as Grad transfers from FBS schools later in July.

yep, Conque is going for broke I guess, and I have no idea what to expect as we have overhauled the team.

We have 5 new position coaches including a DC who is installing a difference more aggressive 3-3-5 defensive scheme.

So, I have no predictions, just going to wait and watch.

On paper we could almost field an all FBS transfer offense..

This has been discussed but i can't recall many details right now. Who is your school's biggest rival? The only big rivalries i can think of are the "Battle of the Piney Woods." and NWLA and SFA's Battle for Chief Caddo. I assume McNeese and SLA is another big rivalry? What else?

Some of these are big. Some are small and some should become big ones

The river bell is between SLU and Nicholls
red beans and rice bowl is UCA and McNeese
Oil city rivalry is Lamar and mcneese
first cousin knife fight is NW State and McNeese
The pallendrome game (my favorite) UCA vs ACU

just a few fun ones

That stinks. Well he has most of July and all of August to recover. Might be back by then? If not then all he's missing is the annual SLC pay game and hopefully will be back for the McNeese game at the end of September?

Because they could be 2-2 at that point, at best 3-1 but likely 2-2 without a starting QB. Then they face 3 games in conference next that I wouldn't wish on any program in the SLC without a QB.

McNeese - Cowboys should be back to usual form.
SHSU- Added more talent.
UCA- I don't see much of a dropoff from last year here.

Coaches like Blumrick, very athletic, but with the exception of some garbage time last season, he has no game day experience.

May not see Sawyer back until ACU game at best, but he is young and strong and a very positive individual, so who knows.

Any small chance we had against SMU is pretty much gone now, and that's OK, as it is the money game. I was though looking forward to seeing us at full strength against them with all this FBS talent.

Probably was misled by friends thinking because he played decent against Georgia he could play one season at Nichols and transfer to a FBS program the following year but since he won't graduate by the end of the 2016-2017 academic year he will be forced to either play at the D2/D3 level or not play at all smh. I guess if he wanted to play and gain NFL exposure the SIAC schools like Tuskegee, or GSC schools like Valdosta State, UNA or West Georgia would offer him some exposure.

Since our board is DEAD, let me get this started here.

Alright SLC fans, who is traveling to an away SLC game this year?

From my standpoint I see our incoming fans are:

9/16- SLU
9/30- SHSU
10/14- SFA
10/28- McNeese
11/18- ACU

So which one of you are coming to tailgate in Conway?! I've got a taigate spot, BBQ, cold drinks, music and plenty of room for two tailgate tents. Can we get the year started yet????!!!!!!

I might make that trip with the wife and kid. It will be a great game and I think could decide the conference champion. I will remember to bring the advil for when I suffer from looking at that god-awful field, though..:D

Ive hunted TX out by San Angelo, Eldorado, Christoval. The deer arent as big as MN but they arent bad . Water is a determining factor out in the hill country. Deer are as thick as bugs on a bumper.
Also Miles TX has some of the best smoked sausage Ive ever had. They do the best job of deer processing also.
I still send a bunch of my MN deer meat to them.

Compared to yankee deer they are pygmies. That is based on experience. So, in summary, not everything is bigger in Texas.

You have a better record against us at our house than at yours since UCA moved up to the FCS. Our overall record against each other since 1945 is 5-5. Only ONE team in the SLC has a winning record against UCA and that was earned by one game last year....SHSU.

I have known Lance since way back when he was a player at McNeese. Lance is Lance. What you see is what you get. There won't be any pretenses.

Taking photos on the sidelines he is funny as hell to watch and listen to at practices and at games. Of course, he has calmed down a little on the sidelines since he became head coach last season.

Lots of changes at SFA heard during the one on one interview with Coach Conque...

Redshirting quarterback Zach Smith is not a sure thing by any means. If he walks into fall camp and outplays the competition, it's not inconceivable that he plays. With that said, I get the feeling that it's probably unlikely. We could definitely see a situation at quarterback a lot like Joe Minden and Zach Conque had in the early part of Clint's inaugural season at SFA with Ryan Cottingame and Jake Blumrick splitting drives.

Coach Conque seems optimistic that Sawyer could return earlier than expected but it remains highly unlikely that he'll take the field in Dallas on September 2nd.

Arkansas graduate transfer Juan Day comes to SFA with two remaining years of eligibility and should be healthy enough to contribute right now. He's big, long and fast, and Conque seems confident that he's capable of helping the already deep position of running back. Conque remains very complimentary of Josh McGowen and Kijana Amous.

The SFA staff spent a lot of time reflecting after last season and delved a bit into analytics to make some difficult decisions. One of those was to go a different direction on defense. Conque explains that it was necessary to focus more on some of the spread stuff that teams are throwing at them now while remaining versatile enough to revert to even-man fronts against run heavy teams. In short, SFA gave up way too many big plays last year. There were times where the defense was okay - good even - if you think back to that early season win in Lake Charles. But a defense that emphasizes cutting off the over-the-top passes was the goal and Conque found his man for that in Jeff Byrd.

There are a number of true freshmen that have been very impressive so far in what the staff has seen. It's hard to point to any one in particular that has a chance to contribute immediately with redshirt decisions still more than a month away, but some names that were thrown out: tight end Allen Arclies (a big personnel need right now), defensive backs Trenton Gordon, Eli Jones, Caleb Lawton, and offensive lineman Jimmy Price.

Quite a few academic causalities for ACU including some big ones. A starting WR out for the year because of grades, a transfer Dorrel brought in has reportedly not showed up for workouts or summer classes and will likely never play a down for us. Also there will be quite a few players suspended for the first few games for off the field stuff. And a LB tore his ACL in practice last week. Other than that things are going great 😂

1. Will Sam sweep both the Payton and Buchanan awards with Briscoe and Hall?

2. After Briscoe, who is the best QB? I'm partial to Sealy based on last year's stats, but there's a lot of competition.

3. Is this the year the SLC newcomers step up? ACU? UIW? HBU?

1. No. Hall will take his.

2. I'm going to say Hildebrand. 3000+ yards in an offense that threw it 35% of the time. No way to get into any kind of flow as a QB or WR. Yet he did it.

3. No.

4. SLC 3 bid? No. SHSU for sure. UCA or McNeese likely. There has to be some upsets to go beyond that.

5. For UCA it's likely a lineman. Mallett has family that has done it. It's in his genes. But there are some bigger guys on the team so one of those possibly late rounds.

When your head coach does 15 reps of 225 without warm up...it makes national headlines...and the motivation for the players...fantastic! He's 51 and an old lineman...xlolx

Not bad. But he was doing a half press . It would have been more impressive if he would have locked his elbows after each rep. Like he was doing on the last 2. (https://twitter.com/Coach_JonesUCA/status/889948834637414401)

I like the switchup with SHSU and UCA between the writers. From the practices I've been to at UCA, the pass defense is much improved...but it is fall camp not game time. Here's my issue with the UCA/SHSU game early this year: UCA plays Kansas State then goes on the road to Murray State. Two games later has SHSU at home but how much will be taken out of them after those type of games? A bye week will help some and watching video of the JMU game will also, but if you don't have the pass defense to stop them, you don't have it. Wonder what defense scheme coaches will have to come up with to stop that 20 yard slant this year? ! xlolx

No, it's a very cool drone photo. (Note: I do not own this photo).
Stadium seats 8,500 or 12,000 with added seating in end zones. Has a dozen suites, club seating with buffet. 35x60 video board, Multimedia studio with full broadcast capabilities.
Now now we need to win some games.

Last year we sold less than 100 season tickets. This year we are approaching 2,000. We still have some work to do to broaden our fan base beyond alums to include the Abilene community in general, but the stadium has helped. It is a very visible landmark.

I think the problem was that as long as you guys were at Shotwell you were always going to be seen as the sideshow to the Cooper Cougars and the Abilene High Eagles. Having your own space should give your marketing team something to work with.

Any special amenities or features to the place?

Any special amenities or features to the place?

Couple of nice features:

The five* story, 55,000 *square*foot Chuck Sitton Tower on the west side of the stadium will house club, suite and
press levels. The club level has been designed to host events throughout the year and accommodate 405 guests
on football gamedays. Just outside the club level, eight covered loge boxes will each contain eight stadium seats.
Ten suites on the suite level will contain 12*16 stadium seats, both interior and exterior.
The press level will host print media and feature two radio booths, a TV booth,
booths for ACU's and visiting coaches, suites for the ACU director of athletics
and the visiting directors of athletics, camera decks, officials' replay booth and
an auxiliary booth for audio and video, including the stadium's video
scoreboard.

The state-of-the-art Daktronics video board will be the fourth largest (64x25) on a campus where an NCAA Division I Football Championship Subdivision (FCS) team plays.

Sections with Chair & rail back seating options along with suites. Not much news about concessions yet.

Appropriated this idea from Twitter about another conference.....'

describe the teams in the SLC as a car

I will start with a couple.....

Sam Houston. Ford 150. Tough, durable & has dominated the market for awhile now.

SFA. Jaguar. Looks great on the show room floor. Breaks down two blocks from the dealership.

Ok...whatcha got.......

UCA: Mustang. Pin stripe. Fast. Tough. Slow to start but picks up speed.
HBU: Pinto: Small. Fast. Once hit from behind it blows up.
McNeese: Caddilac. Rich tradition. Strong engine. Curb feelers. Upholstery smells like cajun food. Trunk drags from sandbags weights.
SLU- Dodge. Starts out strong, loses power though.
Lamar: Prototype- Never makes it to the showroom floor.
NWST- Gremlin. Made of metal but poor gas mileage.
IUW- Accord. Reliable. Safe. Nothing fancy.

After the practice time that has taken place so far the coaching staff is really high on redshirt sophomore #10 Jake Blumrick 6-2; 202 out of Pearland, Texas.

He has a lot of escape mobility (which he will need) and pretty accurate with the throw. But I say we will also see QB:#15 Ryan Cottingame 6-3; 220 (Jr.) the JUCO transfer from TVCC as well, in a QB by committee type offense (yeah great fun)

Probably going to be more run heavy with Blumrick at QB as we are stacked at the RB position. Hopefully the OL gets it together and provides some open lanes for these guys.

RB:#25 Juan Day 6-2; 230 (Jr.) Arkansas Transfer *** #40 RB; #3 (AR)
RB:#7 Kijana Amous 5-11; 210 (Sr.) JUCO ** #145 RB
RB:#29 Josh McGowen 5-9; 202 (R/Fr.) ** #63 APB (Texas Relay Sprint Champ)
RB:#27 Jacolby Whitaker 5-10; 194 (Jr.)
RB:#32 Jamall Shaw 5-11; 210 (So.) ** #178 RB; #40 (OK) (6A Oklahoma POY)
RB:#20 Dominic Williams 5-11; 200 (Fr.)
RB:#00 Kameron Session 5-8; 180 (Fr.) *** #127 RB

Hope to have Sawyer back by ACU game.

I predict a 6 maybe get an upset and make it a 7 win season and be prime to be a favorite next season as we lose only 10 seniors. This team is going to be good (minus injuries of course).

All the QB's return next season, all the special teams return, lose one RB, one WR, one TE, and 3 OL on the offensive side (3 of those starters)
Defensively we lose only one DE, no DT's, no LB's, one safety, and two CB's (2 of those starters)

Quite honestly tho, i'm about done with his schtick. So i won't be stressing over his moving on the way i did with fritz's. Done get me wrong, he's done good things for the program. I just don't believe in him as a coach tho. This year will determine his legacy here.
