The Phillies may have done something finally to cause celebration within its fan base when they signed Chase Utley to a 7-year $85 million contract extension.

Utley earned $500,000 in 2006 and has 3.27 years ML service meaning he would have been eligible for free agency following the 2010.

Let's get Howard inked to a long-term deal and the Phillies ownership will receive a slight reprieve from the fans. Of course, if Utley or Howard pull a "Pat Burrell," then things might get ugly.

Incidently, I think "Pat Burrell" will become a household word among Phillies fans, much like Von Hayes has. Of course, when the term is used, much like Hayes' name, it won't be intended as flattery.
