Excerpt: "There were more than 600 quarterbacks playing college football at its highest level in 2016. Of that number, 97 attended high school in Texas at large, while 39 hailed from the [Dallas-Ft. Worth] Metroplex...[which] covers more square mileage than Connecticut and Rhode Island combined."

Maybe Frisco's not a bad place to host a game after all...

Lafayette's new OC, Rich Bartel, seems keenly aware of the quarterback-rich milieu of Texas high schools - much to their consternation. xslapfightx

The article and the comments are directed at IMG Academy not Bartel or Lafayette or any other college. Recruiting by IMG is mightily resented. Recruiting by out of state COLLEGE coaches (Lafayette or wherever) is not viewed in the same way. IMG=football factory/high school Lafayette=Well respected college. Apples/Oranges.

Not really relating to QBs but to players in general I've always thought that many players from the upper Midwest like ND, SD, NE, MN, IA, and WI that end up signing with the upper tier FCS school from those areas would be FBS recruits if they were just as talented but from TX/FL/CA/OH/etc. All they eyes of collegiate talent evaluators that those hotbed states have on them is a huge advantage to marginal players in those states.

I tend to agree with this. Also, there are fewer overall FBS programs close to home for upper Midwest players. Some probably go FCS so their family can watch them play without going bankrupt.

There are more than 60 indoor practice facilities in the Metroplex area alone.

Very telling.

I don't care who he recruits as long as we win some games.

I' m not a huge fan of IMG, but they are brining in top notch kids that have pro potential. The next wave will be IMG type places that prey on kids that stink with rich parents. It will almost be like a football fantasy camp and so these kids can think they are big time players for a few years.

"This is what the people here want to do with their money," Wetzel writes. "Whether that makes sense to the rest of America isn’t the issue."

An ideal use for all the abandoned shopping malls now dotting the American landscape, IMHO. xtwocentsx

Hey citdog, while the South was still smouldering in ashes, we invented the recruiting scandal - back in 1896 when we plied Fielding Yost away from West Virginia to play (it turns out we lied about this) just one game for Lafayette. That one game was a win over previously-undefeated Penn, and that win secured for Lafayette the first-ever College Football National Championship for a non-Ivy school.

Lehigh refused to play us that year as a result of the "Yost Affair" - the only time in history the two teams did not meet. Shortly thereafter, thirteen colleges met to form a committee, which would become the NCAA, to discuss rule changes. Lehigh and Penn were at the head of table; Lafayette either refused to attend or was not invited (depending upon whom you ask). xrulesx
