You take the total GPI and divide by the number of teams in the conference.
Or something like that.

Ugh. Do we have to go through this again? You cannot simply divide the rank by numbers of teams in the conference. The math doesn't work when you have different sized conferences. Rank a conference of 5 teams 1-5 and divide by 5. Rank a conference of 12 teams 1-12 and divide by 12. The numbers don't work.

It works both ways, if the GWFC had the 5 lowest ranked teams, while the A-12/CAA had the 12 lowest ranked teams the GWFC would be ranked lower

Not to mention the events in both cases are mutually exclusive.

I just can't wait for NDSU becomes legitimate so their wins count.
Its a stupid NCAA rule.
I hope APP is talking with their AD. We have been screwed by ESPN twice,LSU this year and GA next year.

When we need to argue who is last and who is next to last you can bring that up, but you miss the point that more A10 teams keeps more A10 teams ranked lower than GW keeps GW...

OTOH, one loss in the GW plunges your ranking. 1 loss in the A10 doesn't as much.

Median A-10 = 28.3
Median GWFC = 13
4/5 GWFC teams are in the top 16
that is tough to argue with

Aren't they still member so fthe conference and not to be ignored? If the GWFC did not have 4 highly ranked teams, wouldn't the strength (or weakness) of the number 4 team effect their number too? It is conference that is being talked about, not the top 4. If that was the case, you would be right, wouldn't you?

Did anyone else chuckle that the NC game was played on December 15th & then, if you could hold your breath that long, the Final GPI comes out on January 20th?
And the GPI isn't tied to it's big brother the BCS??? Please.
Also, this just in officially: The Phillies have won the 1980 World Series!!!

That's actually the entire arguement. If the GWFC had more teams, they'd have more teams with LOSSES that would drag down their rating. If the A10 could jetison their worst teams (ie. UNC), the overall rating would go up.

Yeh, but we don't. Lets deal with reality and not hypotheticals.

 The reality is you cannot strictly use numbers to compare conferences with such a disparity in number of members. The GWFC is hypothetically the strongest conference.
I had NDSU ranked in the top 5, but they beat a 4-2 Southland team (really 4-3 if you count a loss to UCA), a 4-4 A10 team, and a 2-5 SoCon team.
Cal Poly beat 3-5 and 4-4 Big Sky teams and lost to Montana.
Comma Davis beat Montana State, move-up UCA, non-schollie USD, 1-10 UNC and lost to YSU.
SDSU went 3-0 vs. the Southland (the worst Southland I can remember, even UNC beat a SLC team) and lost to Montana and UNI.
What does this tell us in reality? Not a whole heck of a lot. It tells me that these four teams were certainly at worst average and I'd even give them above average. For reference, the NEC beat a 2-5 SoCon team and a 4-5 A10 team.
