NEWARK – A heavy influx of assistant coaches from his former Richmond team plus several Blue Hen holdovers make up the staff of new University of Delaware football coach Danny Rocco, announced Thursday by UD.
Rocco, 56, was hired as Delaware coach Dec. 13. He previously guided Delaware’s Colonial Athletic Association rival Richmond to a 43-22 record and three straight FCS playoff appearances in five seasons.
That followed a six-year stint at Liberty in which his teams went 47-20.
Dennis Dottin-Carter and Eddie Allen are the only returnees from the previous UD coaching staff.
Dottin-Carter was Delaware’s defensive line coach and co-defensive coordinator with Tim Weaver and also took over as interim head coach following Dave Brock’s Oct. 16 firing. Delaware was 4-7 overall, including 2-3 after Brock’s dismissal. Allen was special teams coach.
Dottin-Carter will coach the defensive line and Allen will add running backs to his special teams duties. He had also coached UD tight ends in 2014 and 2015.
Rocco has also retained Jerry Oravitz, associate athletic director for football administration, and personal development coach David Baylor.
Following Rocco from Richmond are Chris Cosh (defensive coordinator/defensive backs), Blaine McCorkle (offensive line), Fontel Mines (wide receivers), Bill Polin (tight ends), Manny Rojas (inside linebackers), Clint Sintim (outside linebackers), Chris Stewart (strength and conditioning coach), Carl Kotz (associate director of football operations) and Tony Palmieri (video coordinator).
The position of offensive coordinator/quarterbacks coach has not yet been filled. John Garrett, who held those positions last season at Richmond, was recently named head coach at Lafayette...
