The homer in me says the opposite, but the realist in me says if they can get past the quarters, then they will lose at the Natty. But as we have seen, for some reason, NDSU playoff football is a whole new beast, but no Tanguay or DeLuca is a lot to overcome, especially if PGT is out as well.

I've got the same. However, after seeing the pitiful showing by the Big Sky in Round 1, I am not so sure. Even as a Dukes fan, JMU is an enigma to me. They keep getting better on defense week-in, week-out, but the QB situation is really mysterious. If Schor is not ready, then the task might be a bit too much for the true freshman QB, even with all the tools. Schor has been practicing from what we understand these past two weeks. A total fail vs. UNH wouldn't shock me either after the consecutive years of losing to Liberty and Colgate. Time to get that monkey off our back!

That was my bet. I think I have a good shot if NDSU wins it, and JSU finishes in the finals. Unless someone ahead of me did the same thing.

I'll respond to this as I have "a piece" of a bracket entry that did fairly well in Round 1. We do have a SoCon Team going to the Final 4.

That said, regardless of match-ups/brackets/seeds/regionalization/etc. (and I'll touch on that next), we didn't think any of the SoCon Teams have quite enough to get there. On the other hand, I think there are 6 Teams in the SoCon (regardless of their records) that could be very competitive with or beat at least 1/2 of the Teams in the Playoff Field. Next year, that number could go to 7...or EVEN to ALL 9 if WCU recovers from a bad slump this season and ETSU continues to mature as rapidly as they did from YR 1 to YR 2. Maybe, also, next year, 1 of those 6, 7, or 9 will have enough to win it all, but not this year...we don't think.

Besides the fact that we just didn't think any 1 of the 4 SoCon Playoff Teams quite has enough, the Selection Committee sure didn't do the SoCon Playoff Teams any favors. Nor did Chatt help themselves by losing to Woffy & losing what would have been a Seeded entry.

Sending Samford to Youngstown in Round 1 was about the worse match-up they could have drawn. Not sure if that draw was affected by their loss to ETSU or not, but, without going into all the details of why, it just wasn't good. I would have taken Samford over 9 of the other Non-SoCon Teams in the 1st Round, but we picked Youngstown because of the match-ups and were correct.

No problems with Chatt's draw. As the 3rd Place Team in the SoCon, the Selection Committee did them right. Perhaps, a reward for being in the Playoffs for the 3rd year in a row. I think if we had the bracket to re-do, after watching last week's games and with the way they disemboweled the Big Lie's 3rd Place Team, the Mocs would be the 1st Team we would change to go further than we projected.

Matching Woffy against ChuckSouth and then sending them to El Cid if they won is just cruel and unusual punishment - for Wofford, for El Cid, and for the SoCon. They were the 2nd best Team in the 4 bid SoCon, the 2nd strongest Conference in FCS, and they don't get a seed, but 2 Teams from the Big Lie Conference do...and 2 from the CAA would have, if Richmond hadn't screwed the pooch vs. Bill & Mary. So, instead, we end up with the #2 Team from the SoCon facing the Champion of what Massey ranks as the 4th strongest conference IN THE 1st ROUND! We picked 'em to win it, but knew it was going to be close, and we knew it would take a lot out of them.

Even the #6 Seeded Bellhops, having to play Woffy in their 1st Playoff game is CRAY-CRAY. The Committee knows about the WAR these 2 teams fought about a month ago. To ask either of them to do that again so early in the Tourney ensures 2 things - 1 SoCon Team will be eliminated and the other will be battered and, most likely, have to travel the following week; regardless of which is which. At least the Committee gave NDSU an exhibition game vs. SD or C-P before they might have to face SDSU again (assuredly, at home).

So...there you have it - regardless of bracket stuff, we just didn't see a true National Championship Team among the 4. Add in the bracket stuff and the odds go way down. That does not say anything about how I / we feel about the OVERALL strength of the SoCon. 2nd strongest in FCS is right for 2016. I expect the SoCon to, clearly, be the strongest FCS Conference by 2018.

Seriously, Fubear summed it up pretty well. The path to the championship will be hard. I like to think of it as being realistic rather than having a lack of confidence.

I think my Bulldogs could do it but unless they get some help and stay at home a bit more, it will be tough. Although we have gone 6-1 on the road this year and 4-3 on the road last year. Over all 10-4 on the road and 9-1 at home the last two years. The only losses we have at all in both years (5) are to Ga So (FBS), UNC (FBS), CSU (X2), and UTC. We have 19 wins including 17 FCS wins, 1 FBS win, and 1 Div II win these past two years. Not bad.

UTC might do it as well although they are 7-5 on the road the last two years, but that includes 2 FBS losses (Fla St and Alabama). They also lost to JSU, The Citadel, and Mercer on the road the last 2 years. At home they are 11-2 over the last two years with losses to JSU and Wofford.

Wofford is better this year but they are 6-5 on the road the last two years. That includes 3 FBS losses, The Citadel last year and Samford this year. At home they are 8-4 the last two years with losses of The Citadel this year, and UTC, Samford, and WCU last year.

Clearly it would have been better to have a few more home games for the playoffs, but the schedule did not make for great seeding opportunities. Getting three or four victories in a row on the road is going to make it tough. Hence realism. Any of us picking a SOCON team to win will not change that fact.

Dang Mountain Engineering Hawks got my 'Team' too....And we STILL went with them after I related to my Partners the story of seeing an 11-0 & highly touted Lehigh Team come into Paladin Stadium in 2001 and be COMPLETELY overwhelmed and sacked (9 times!) by Furman. Wow, deja vu. Same struggles I made. Only I got Wofford. Got screwed by Lehigh. I picked Cal Poly 37-27. Knew it would be closer, but failed to see the upset actually happening.

I was also one of the ones who got Cal Poly-ed, Lehighed, and Illinois Stated. Actually picked ISUr to be something of a "cinderella", making it all the way to the semifinals before getting knocked out. That's usually what happens when I try to pick a "cinderella" team in any bracket/tournament.
