Nichols did a pretty good job in a tough place. He's a good Coach.

Anyone got a line on a good d-coordinator prospect? We might be looking for one very soon....I hope.

Don't be surprised if major changes happen at Stony Brook this off season . Four dismal seasons and no play offs .

Wait, was that really that long ago? (goes and looks it up) Holy crap, you're right. I could have sworn it was only a year or so ago that you guys had a pretty good level of success.

You all just had a serious upgrade in the quality of your conference compared to the Big South. To be a consistent mid-level CAA team since joining is pretty good. URI has been in the Yankee/Atlantic 10/CAA since 1947 and you've already done more than they have for decades. Towson consistently sucks outside of their 2012-2013 run for two seasons. Elon has been bottom of the barrel since joining.

I'm actually very surprised to see Albany and Stony Brook both near the playoff bubble just four years into CAA play.

Nichols did a mediocre job in a tough place. He's an offensive coach and he never had a team that could score, couldn't recruit/especially QBs and couldnt retain half the team every year. He's a bluehose lifer and we're thankful for everything he's given to the school especially a tough place for athletics. But he lost the ship when he failed to command his team and his coaches.

It is interesting to me that most of the names that pop up as likely candidates for open FCS jobs are from the same region. That's expected to a point but I would have thought there might be "hot" names who are presently D2 head coaches or FBS assistants who might appear on everyone's wish list, which is often the case for FBS jobs.

Stony Brook also spends millions more on football than URI, and cares if they win or lose.

Rumor on the gohens website is that Mickey Matthews either is going to or has interviewed for the Delaware job. That would be interesting; JMU having to play the Mickster every year.

Stony Brook needs someone SOMEWHERE who's a little less damn conservative. They would punt on 4th and inches on their opponent's 36 yard line if it was out of field goal range. They need to find a QB who can keep the D honest, but even I think Carbone was better than what they sometimes left him do out there.

Actually we need a coaching change if we are going to compete. We are very conservative and became predictable. Fill the box with 8 an dare us to throw . We mismanaged players and did not take advantage of their talents. We have 6'8 tight end used on defense or for blocking who can catch and run but never used once . The kid is huge and never has a chance to show his stuff.

and pretty expected. Thought David Bennett might get a look, but this is 100% not shocking. Gotta make a home run OC hire though. I think we avg'd 5pts a game this year.

What is the deal with Bobby Bently? Why is he just the RB's coach at carolina?

When Bentley left PC it was because his wife apparently didn't want to live in Clinton, and Bentley didnt want to keep doing the job from Duncan. SO he up and resigned and ruined the next 4 years of football for the school. He took a job back in the Duncan area as Byrnes AD and OC... few years later he leaves to go to Auburn to be a quality control guy and then is promoted to whatever gig he had there while Muschamp was on staff. Then Muschamp brought him over to SC with him because of his ties to the area. Not sure why he's only just now a RB coach, but I'd think you might see him get a gig as on OC somewhere if he can get his wife to let them move again. He could just be content being back in SC and watching his youngest son play college ball.

Howard (FCS – Washington DC): Head coach Gary Harrell’s contract is not being renewed.

In 5 seasons at the helm, Harrell’s Bison went 20-36.

The University states they will begin the process to identify their next head coach shortly.

Looks like Brohm at Western Kentucky is bound for Purdue. They might try and pilfer a top FCS coach......

From Footballscoop

Purdue: According to a tweet from Dan Dakich (https://twitter.com/dandakich/status/804693483655221248), “Not declaring it ‘done’ yet but Jeff Brohm to Purdue is doneish.” Dakich adds that he hears “press conference Monday”.

Spack

He wanted Purdue but WKU would be a nice consolation. Take over a pretty strong CUSA program. Prove you can keep it rolling and parlay that into a lower/mid tier P5 job in a few years.

Or get fired, earn a bunch of money doing it and go back to an FCS HC gig or assistant at a P5/G5 making more than an FCS HC.

Former SFA Defensive coordinator Matt Williamson is now the head coach at Missouri Western!

A school he is VERY familiar with. Way to go Matt! (for those of you who don't know, he was DC at UCA before SFA...and still is a great family friend. )

ACU has made a hire. It won't be announced until the new-hire's season with his current team is finished. ACU spoke with several FBS assistants whose teams will play in bowls, but the unconfirmed internet rumor is Adam Dorrel, HC Northwest Missouri State. Dorrel's team plays in the D2 semifinals this weekend. Dorrel has coached two previous D2 national championship teams and has won the D2 national coach of the year twice.

I hope the delay in making an announcement doesn't kill this year's recruiting class.

Carthel was interviewed but not a finalist. Too much baggage.
