I just saw this posted, and I didn't see much more detail.
http://www.wdbj7.com/content/news/Liberty-University-athletic-director-Jeff-Barber-resigns-401729865.html
Anyone know if this was planned or sudden? Does this spell any changes for the Flames moving forward?

If its results based, though, wouldn't that mean this wasn't a surprise to anyone? I get the feeling like this was sort of out of the blue. Not to mention the odd quote from Falwell talking about building on his success.

The timing was out of the blue. The removal wasn't. I was hoping Jeff would survive this change but was worried he wouldn't. You don't fire your football, basketball, and baseball coaches (that you hired) within two years and survive that.

I think they're in a weird period of history right now. Their only equals in facilities in Big South was Coastal and both wanted to go FBS. Coastal got it...LU didnt. CSU, with the worst facilities, is besting them on the field. Kennesaw is inevitably going to become the next power team in the Big South with its resources and geographic location. It all puts Liberty in a weird spot. Not getting the FBS chance they wanted. Not beating the teams they should. A newcomer trying to surpass them.
Strange times. Now hiring the Baylor AD??? I have no idea what they have in mind UNLESS there's a behind closed doors agreement that Art Briles is coming to be the next head coach.

I have said from the beginning that the only place Art Briles gets an HC job is with a religiously affiliated private school. They have the moral cover to say that, as Christians, all people are capable of redemption and deserve a second chance. My money was initially on Abilene Christian as the landing spot for AB, but Liberty is a possibility.

Remember when people kept saying Liberty should join the CAA as a football only member (before the Albany/Stony Brook expansion) and those of us in the New England publics (at the time Maine, UNH, UMass and URI) all said that the best way to ever get the student bodies out to football games on campus would be to let them all protest as the Liberty team buses pulled up on gameday, and that it was a non-starter?
This kind of stuff was what we were talking about. Talk about a "**** you" to every female athlete at Liberty.

Simple. Show them CSUs facilities and resources. And remind them CSU is back to back Big South Champs....which is kinda ridiculous when you consider how big a gap there is between them and Liberty. Then remind them winning trumps morality and there's NO REASON any current Big South team should be beating Liberty, sooo....yeah....that.

Let's see what the major papers are saying about Liberty's AD hire:
http://ftw.usatoday.com/2016/11/ian-mccaw-liberty-university-athletic-director-baylor-sexual-assaults
For Liberty to not so much as acknowledge how things ended for McCaw at Baylor is unconscionable, but not surprising. Would it really dim boosters’ excitement to include a quote from McCaw about learning difficult lessons? Or of him promising to do better this time around? Apparently Liberty believes it would. Sports above all.
There's this, too, which has to be read to be believed:

Rape at Baylor reduced to "technical and unintentional mistakes"? "No AD in America is more sensitized to Title IX compliance than McCaw"? That's like saying nobody is more sensitized to the intricacies of criminal law than John Gotti. This is literally the dumbest hire in America.

Maybe the "buck" didn't stop at the top, isn't that what we have learned in the last 8 years. It was just a bunch of underlings messing around, he probably didn't know what was going on and certainly can't be held accountable for what goes on in his department, after all, he has big job and can't be expected to be responsible for all of the intricate and mundane details. Nah, the buck didn't get there, give him a break.

He, and his football staff, systematically hid/covered/lied about the rape culture that was taking place within their athletic department. He victim blamed. His athletic department threatened victims that came forward to keep them quiet and prove a point to others thinking about coming forward.

The Washington Post had some stunning details out on this today.
https://www.washingtonpost.com/sports/colleges/liberty-universitys-new-ad-isnt-sure-why-god-led-him-here-neither-are-some-students/2016/12/07/afbb2ce2-bcc7-11e6-91ee-1adddfe36cbe_story.html?utm_term=.f20e04d07377
One young man turned to Acts of the Apostles: “Ananias answered: ‘Lord, I have heard from many about this man, how much evil he has done,’ ” the student read. “. . . But the Lord said to him: ‘Go, for he is a chosen instrument of mine.’ ”
A moment passed, the class absorbing the verses’ symbolism, before another young man spoke.
“This is not okay,” he said. “I do think we’re supposed to forgive. But I don’t know if we should give him a job.”
...
About a year ago, Liberty officials noticed a scandal smoldering at Baylor, the overachieving Baptist university in Waco, Tex. Falwell and his senior staffers had admired Baylor, and in particular McCaw, 54, for a long time; though Liberty employed an athletic director, Jeff Barber, the staff questioned whether Barber was the man to lead the athletic department’s continued rise. Should the scandal make McCaw suddenly available, they discussed internally, the school should act quickly.
...
Falwell met with McCaw off-campus on Oct. 29, Falwell later saying he asked McCaw pointed questions about the scandal. Neither Falwell nor McCaw would reveal details about the conversation, but regardless, Falwell was convinced: McCaw, a talented administrator and a Christian, was Liberty’s man. Barber would resign three weeks later, 11 days before McCaw was introduced.
But, given the enthusiasm and fit, was McCaw actually clean? Or was he simply clean enough?
“I would say to anybody who’s charging him,” Smith said, “who’s accusing him of being anything other than an honorable man . . .”
Falwell chimed in, speaking between breaks in Smith’s words.
“Nothing,” he said. “Show us.”
“Tell me one sanction,” Smith continued, “tell me one charge. . .”
“Show us what he did,” Falwell said.
“One anything.”
“And they can’t,” Falwell said.
I can tell Jerry what McCaw didn't do. Perhaps he's too much of a dip**** to figure out that's why he could very well be going to jail in the future. And when his trial comes, it's going to be a lot of fun in Lynchburg.

Liberty has so much potential. SO much potential but then they go out and do stuff like this.
I heard that after they lost to us that the old AD wanted Gill gone but the higher ups wanted to keep him so they pretty much told the AD that it wasn't going to happen. Whether it was a personal choice or a strong suggestion, he's gone because wanted to do what needed to be done. I think that they are putting their blame on the wrong person.. almost like the Cubs and Steve Bartman.

It actually sounds like they had their eye on McCaw for a while and were ready to let go of Barber the minute it was "okay" to do it.
