What a piece of garbage written by Christine Brennen of USAToday! Using the BCS Championship by Florida to go along with its men's hoops national title to make her point about Maryland women's basketball (albeit very good, just not worthy of a column slamming men's hoops)
Didn't UConn and the Dukies (???) each win hoops championships in the same year and did the media note that as well???

I don't see her slamming men's hoops. I see her pointing out the fact that when we don't say women's basketball it automatically means men's basketball. She's saying the default shouldn't be men's basketball, but the question of which you mean.

then why don't we factor in women's bowling and women's Ice Hockey too?

Eh, she's just looking for something to attract more readers to her column on womens hoops. I don't think it was an intentional slight. When you are talking football, its exclusively mens, there fore it would have been redundant in a way to add 'mens' to the basketball NC.
Much ado about nothing.

The default should be men's basketball. Who cares about women's basketball?

She's a Title IX apologist.
