With the obvious exception of Wentz, the huge majority of FCS QBs aren't going to the NFL anyway. And FBS is doing the same thing with their QBs, just not to the extent of Longo.

Yeah it gets really hard to scout someone on something he never does. Also regarding the NFL and spread/air raid offenses, a lot of offensive lineman never fire out or get in a three point stance. I've heard of NFL teams having to red shirt these guys to give them a year to learn technique that usually should have been developed in college.

Also, Briscoe is not an NFL Prospect anyway. He's only 6'2 or 6'3" and he's a non-athletic 230. He doesn't have an athletic enough frame for the NFL. He's got a good arm but not great. This is the best offense for him.

Coastal threw for less than 200 vs Lamar (cuz they were able to run in the second half but not the first)....then they went out and three for 300 on JSUs vaunted Defense

SHSU embarrassed the Lamar D from the get go on the ground and through the air.

So yeah there is some level of comparison. Not direct opponents but there is some comparisons to be made.

What I'm showing is using a poor team as your transitive property beginnings and then trying to bring it down the line three or four teams is an awful way to compare. That's why SHSU isn't ranked one on AGS because there is no real metric to tell how good they are. But I was originally commenting on your offense because of the level of competition crowing about being unstoppable might be a bit premature. And using Lamar as your benchmark of proof is as frail as wet tissue paper at best.

Considering I have SHSU ranked rather high, I would say I think they are good but I am not certain as to how good they are. If say Houston Baptist had a similar record and results, they wouldn't sniff my top 15 until they beat somebody with a pulse.

The sad thing is, unlike our EKU game, your defensive breakdown was not an isolated incident. You guys give up yards and points to everyone... lucky for you, no one you have played has had a defense.

Serpentor knows he's a lame character invented purely for desperate marketing purposes, what confuses him is why you'd act all smug about it since you picked Super Chicken as your avatar, the cartoon equivalent of cancer. SHSU gave up 48 points to Incarnate Word because our offense scored so quickly that our defense had to keep going out on the field and was tanked. It was absolutely horrendous play calling, which has not been emulated since.

Oh, and winning in Fargo. Its kind of the reason your sorry asses are in first in the STATS poll right now, you're welcome. I know its not as impressive as putting up big numbers against DII competition, but we still have a WR and a TE with almost 1,000 yds receiving and our qb has accounted for around 29 TDs. Oh and our RB leads the conference in all purpose yards. But yeah, we're riding the coattails of the team we beat. Hey have you ever even been close in Fargo?

I do believe the year we lost to EWU they were in the national championship game, the first game in Montana was the first year we were playoff eligible, last year was bad, and the rest were in Fargo. Oh and we've gotten to host a whopping one game at home in the playoffs compared to 8, and for as bad as our playoff record is on the road its not that big of a flip from the 5-3 you guys are. 2 games. Oh, and your losses were in Fargo, at SELA and an OVC team. Much more impressive than losing in Montana and at Eastern Washington. So really in the same time frame we both have a loss in the playoffs to a team that didn't go anywhere. Keep trying though buddy. Everyone knows what a juggernaut SELA is.

Lots of respect for SHSU from this Bison fan. You guys are a tough out in the PO's. Those first 2 title games were pretty damn fun. Those games in that H/H series during our transition were as well. Would love to see another H/H with you guys. That said there's not much question that your schedule has been very weak. It'll be interesting to see how the games go come PO time. I thought an interesting part of the article was how they teach their receivers to make changes to their routes on the fly. That is an interesting strategy and one that I know would probably create some incompletes and interceptions if newly implemented. I am guessing that instead of "reading" the defense that the QB has to read his receivers, that would worry me. But, then again I have only OC'd for JV football games and this is probably why.

I am replying to two posts on this one, not just yours... I have to crash, work comes early in the morning and it is already past my bedtime.

Two years ago was a completely different team with a first year coaching staff. Last year is much more relevant, though if you want to talk about 2014, I would hardly call that "smashed." We were leading at halftime, and finished the game with over 100 more yards of offense than SHSU. We had no depth in the secondary, and were horrible in the redzone that day. That got us beat.

By 11.

Not 52.

52 = smash.

11 = a loss.

I don't see where your defense is significantly improved (statistically it has regressed), and your offense was "unstoppable" last year. Our defense is improved. Our offense is still very explosive (a few more ypg than Chatty), but at times they seem to get bored, and we go conservative to keep Eli from taking too many hits since our defense can win games. I don't buy the excuse of your offense scoring too fast allowing IWU the opportunity to score. Our offense scored fast against EIU, and I would say that they are significantly better than Incarnate Word. They did beat ISUr and Miami Ohio on the road. We were up 31-7 over EIU at halftime, and all but one of our drives was under 2 minutes.

Why did we leave the Southland? It may have had something to do with the fact that Troy left and Samford was joining the OVC. The closest conference opponent to us was 500 miles, with most being 700+, and we had hoped to join the SoCon...and we were blackballed because they wanted to be a private school conference. At least in the OVC, most of our opponents are < 300 miles away. EKU is < 400. EIU and SEMO are the farthest at 500 and 420. TTU and TSU are around 200 each, and UT-M is just over 300. When you factor in travel cost for basketball and other sports it is significantly cheaper than existing in the Southland + TAAC.

We've done a home and home with Sammy in the past. NDSU has scheduled home and homes recently with Montana, Eastern Washington, Delaware, and Weber St. I'm sure our AD would be happy to have the conversations. JSU had games this year of Coastal and Liberty, and in the past has scheduled Chattanooga, so I would assume they wouldn't dodge your phone calls as well.

What I do know, is NDSU worked out a deal with ESPN to host the kickoff game provided we found a playoff team from last year to come. Our AD said most teams wouldn't even return the phone call. I know we were in talks with JMU but they wanted a home and home. Charleston Southern eventually took the deal. Then they came up to Fargo, and damn near knocked us off in our place on national TV. I don't know if SHSU was also in the talks or not, but had you guys got the deal done the CSU had you would have greatly increased your weak schedule.

One issue with the Southland is your 9 game schedule. You only have two OOC games then. Do you shoot for home games vs. cupcakes? Home and homes with peer programs? Or go for FBS paydays? It's great you got Richmond scheduled next year. Hopefully Sam continues to do that in the future.

So basically we ended up losing to the people who went to championship game 3 out of 4 years (since we seem to be using a five year window and SDSU has been in 4/5) and played them sooner than you guys. SDSU had to play at runner up that year EWU, in Missoula, and at Fargo twice. Sure matches up with getting SELA and SUU in the first round or even better getting a PL team. What a murderers row. But you keep tugging your willie over it.

But its like I said. You're probably right. We have a serious lack of offensive firepower and have shown an inability to play well against highly ranked teams. We likely wouldn't be able to hang with you guys for more than a quarter. I would just be praying we can keep it remotely competitive in that match up. I hope it happens and early, so that way we can be put out of our misery early.

We've done a home and home with Sammy in the past. NDSU has scheduled home and homes recently with Montana, Eastern Washington, Delaware, and Weber St. I'm sure our AD would be happy to have the conversations. JSU had games this year of Coastal and Liberty, and in the past has scheduled Chattanooga, so I would assume they wouldn't dodge your phone calls as well.

What I do know, is NDSU worked out a deal with ESPN to host the kickoff game provided we found a playoff team from last year to come. Our AD said most teams wouldn't even return the phone call. I know we were in talks with JMU but they wanted a home and home. Charleston Southern eventually took the deal. Then they came up to Fargo, and damn near knocked us off in our place on national TV. I don't know if SHSU was also in the talks or not, but had you guys got the deal done the CSU had you would have greatly increased your weak schedule.

One issue with the Southland is your 9 game schedule. You only have two OOC games then. Do you shoot for home games vs. cupcakes? Home and homes with peer programs? Or go for FBS paydays? It's great you got Richmond scheduled next year. Hopefully Sam continues to do that in the future.
Yeah as much as I would like to have Sammy visit outside the playoffs I don't know that we can work into our schedule for a few more years. We still have three years of games with Chattanooga, our yearly FBS, and next year Liberty is visiting. I don't know if our game with Coastal means we will have to travel in a couple of years but it wouldn't surprise me. But between our Chatty home and home and our FBS games it only leaves us with one extra game a year and I think those are currently booked for the next couple years.

It's just hard to really analyze where shsu is given the easy schedule. However woe be the team in the playoffs that underestimates them. That offense can give anyone fits if they are firing on all cylinders.

Well depends on what you consider every statistical category. Scoring defense was 24.5 last year (regular season). It is currently up to 25.4 this season. Looking at the schedule you had a tougher road last year too. I am too lazy to go look at other defensive categories to see if those are up as well. Also noted was last year included a game against Texas Tech. So that schedule was a little more difficult, and you still gave up less points even with the 59 they threw on the board the first game. Seems like you went a little overboard saying every statistical category.

Stats are a little skewed this season, a better breakdown for Sam would be to use the first 3 quarters of games only. The majority of our games, the 1s and 2s on both sides of the ball have been watching the 4th quarter from the sidelines. Could you imagine the offensive stats if the 1's have played entire games??

The thing you all seem to be overlooking is that we were a good team last year, and the year before that. We lost basically nobody last year. Our leaders have been really deep in the playoffs nearly every year and all of them have been major contributors since they were freshman. They don't make mistakes very often and thats the impressive part. They go about practice, meetings, game days and games like its a job and all the years i've been around the team I've never seen anything like it. The maturity is incredible.

They positions we did lose a guy at we were really deep. The "2nd string" guys that are starting this year played 40% or so of the snaps last year and are now better than the guys from last year. As good as our WR should've been last year and were on some days this group is 10 times better. They don't drop passes and they rack up yards after catch at an amazing rate. The other thing they do is block and im not exagerating when i say they give 100% every single run play and are one of the biggest reasons our run game is so good. We had 11 guys catch passes Saturday. if they don't give effort then they don't play.

One of the most unusual is we have 8/9 OL that see regular snaps. They will play 2/3 series and get a series off all game long. We have 5 rb's that see alot of snaps, we have 8-10 WR's that contribute, 3 tight ends. These guys are all seeing 1st half snaps. Not just second half blowout snaps. We averaged 65 plays a game when I played. This team shoots for 100 but expects north of 90. Thats a game and a half of football for a defense and with our depth on offense our 1's see 60 plays or so and our 2's see 40 plays. Come play off time if we have an injury it doesn't really matter except for Briscoe. Our backup is above average but Briscoe runs this offense like a swiss watch and its fun to watch. As said above he reads the receivers routs on the fly and with him seeing so few snaps during the regular season last year he didn't have time to grasp it like he does now. Right now we have as much depth as most fbs programs. We haven't been able to prove how good we are this year but this again this isn't an unproven group of guys. These are the same guys that have been deep and played in big games the past 2-3 years. They made mistakes every game including the bad teams last year that i don't see this year.

Common since says if you've got a team full of guys that have seen significant playoff snaps every single year as young guys then they aren't likely to be worse with all that experience. Yall wan't to compare us to all other teams in the past that have had undefeated records against a weak schedule and got throttled in the playoffs but you really can't due to the fact these guys have been in so many big games throughout their career. Looks like the big sky finally learned to quit underestimating the Kats and soon enough the rest of you will. NDSU has been almost unbeatable.
