Alabama State v FAMU to be the first FCS game in the new Mercedes-Benz Stadium

Negotiations are underway with the city of Atlanta to bring the Alabama State/FAMU series back to the city on September 30, 2017 at the new Mercedes-Benz Stadium. We use to play FMAU in Atlanta at the old Fulton County Stadium from 1983-1991. In 1993 we played them in Birmingham, Al and then the series took a hiatus until 2002. In 2002 we played FAMU in Mobile, Al at a sold out Ladd-Peebles and in 2004 we played in Detroit at Ford Field before a crowd of 48,992. The series took another break and our last meeting occurred in 2008 down in Tallahassee which was the first time that the game had been on either campus since 1981.

I saw it over on The AJC Sepia page of Facebook and its mentioned in an al.com article from this weekend. I don't expect to hear much until all the details are ironed out. This game was supposed to happen this past year in Birmingham for The Labor Day Classic but negotiations between the two schools went of the rails back in 2015.
