I compliled a list of FCS teams still capable of reaching the 6 Division I win plateau for at-large selection into the playoffs. This will be updated each week, giving the readers of AGS an idea of who could be awarded the at-large playoff bids. The first version is an extensive list, and many teams listed realistically will not reach 6 Division I wins.
Teams are organized by conference, although Ivy League and SWAC teams are not included since their conferences do not participate in the FCS playoffs. However, MEAC teams are listed since their second place team could still theoretically receive a playoff berth.
Teams preceeded by an asterisk (*) have already reached the 6 win benchmark; those listed in bold need to win all remaining games to reach 6 Division I wins.

The six win part only applies to the MVFC teams. Might as well make everyone else be "7 wins". SOS.

Do you put it in quotes because even at 7 wins UND would be left out? SOS :D

You'd also have to exclude the SWAC title game participants, assuming they weren't among those 3 already.

That's not true. You might as well make it 8 wins as a requirement because UCA had 7 wins last year and didn't make it but a 6-5 team did.

What part of what I wrote seems to be confusing......
What conference did that 6 win team play in? My point, which seems to be lost on people, was that there is only once conference that COULD get a 6 win team in and that is the MVFC, based on SOS. The rest of the teams are going to need 7 wins, at least.
Therefore, it would clear up the playoff eligibility grid above by only pointing out those teams that can get to 7 wins (minus MVFC).

Western Carolina cannot reach 6 Division I wins this season, which is why they weren't included in the list.

UNI has 3 wins. That is playoff eligible for a MVFC team. :D

Actually, UCABEAR's tongue in cheek post has a bit of truth in it he didn't extrapolate on. Each conference probably has a "magic number" to get to. MVFC is 6, BSC, CAA are 7, SLC, OVC, Big South, SOCon are 8, NEC and PL are 10 (and the SWAC or MEAC in the improbable chance that a team from those conferences are eligible and not in a scheduled game already), and Pioneer is autobid only. Don't know if that's accurate, but what my gut and recollection tell me. And of course, those wins must all be Div 1.

Thankfully, teams keep beating them so they hopefully won't make it to the playoffs and beat everybody. Nobody would want to face UNI in the playoffs! :D

Wow. Really. Since the SOCON is rated basically in a dead heat with the BSC and only behind by one hundredths of a point in Massey and 3 one hundredths of a point in Sagarin, and actually #2 in the Massey composite, you need to provide some objective evidence to support this other than your gut:D. The golden number is 7 and each team regardless of conference will have its resume evaluated. Could be +/- one down or two/three up, depending on that. I think the SOCON is a lot tougher than you and many other believe.
Massey Ranking
1 - MVFC - 1.26
2 - Big Sky - 0.97
3 - SOCON - 0.96
4 - Colonial - 0.85
5 - Southland - 0.80

Definitely not trying to slam the SOCon. And not talking about their conference rating this year. Just trying to recall the way the committee has viewed at larges and the number of div 1 wins required to make the playoffs. Admittedly, those comments were not researched regarding the recent past and could be way off base.

Yeah it is. But just like the Ivy, the conf circle jerk keeps it that way, makes it hard to move, in either direction very quickly. Remember that the these rating trend from year to year so the starting points are drawn from the prior year. Once you are high, it takes time to fall and vice a versa. But the MVFC also had a good OOC, to their credit, and the FBS scalps as well, so is probably deserving.
