Not sure I'd want Texas College in the SLC!

A bit shocked DD Terry turned down the invite. Any reason why?

Chad Nkang is in the Hula Bowl

I have him listed in the Hula. It is listed before it says Magnolia.

I am glad the Hula is going to play. Rumor was that it would fold.

Look at the date of the roster on the game site. It is out of date. I heard he was playing. Watch it today and find out I guess... :D

He was a late addition to the roster. I just now saw this post after I posted about him going to the Senior Bowl. To be honest this seems to be legit that only one was invited. He is the only one who has a real shot at the first day as of now I think.

The only other player who could possibly go first day is Travarous Bain or Justin Durant as of now.

Update on the East-West Shrine Game:

Cal Poly's Shotwell Earns Pat Tillman Award in Dell East-West Shrine Game

Cal Poly senior linebacker Kyle Shotwell not only recorded the most tackles in Saturday's 82nd annual Dell East-West Shrine All-Star Game, he also earned the Pat Tillman Inspirational Award the night before. Shotwell was the only Division I-AA player on the West squad

Shotwell notched five solo tackles and two assisted stops as the West defeated the East 21-3 in the nationally televised game at Reliant Stadium in Houston, Texas.

"It went pretty well, I thought I played pretty good," said Shotwell, Cal Poly's third representative in as many years in the prestigious all-star game. "Overall, I thought I was able to demonstrate my ability and I think I stood out."

The night prior to the game, the players attended an awards banquet at the JW Marriott and Shotwell was presented the Pat Tillman Award by Pat's brother, Kevin Tillman, who played baseball at Cal Poly in 2000 and 2001 before joining Pat as a U.S. Army Ranger serving in Afghanistan.

"The award was voted by the coaches and the player selection committee and goes to a player who represents character, hard work and what they want a person in the Shrine game to represent," said Shotwell. "It's the kind of award that, if Pat Tillman were here, he would win it.

"Winning the award made me feel pretty good," Shotwell added.

Shotwell was coached by San Francisco 49ers linebackers coach Mike Singletary, a Hall of Fame linebacker with the Chicago Bears.

"He's an extremely intense man, and his intensity rubs off on the players he coaches," said Shotwell. "I definitely learned a lot about the level of intensity needed to succeed at the next level."

Shotwell, the only Division I-AA player on the West squad, discovered only one major difference between divisions I-A and I-AA players.

"The size of the offensive linemen, and that's it," said Shotwell. "I didn't feel like the speed of the game was that much faster, but the size of the offensive linemen was quite different. Most of them were up to 330 pounds, compared to 260 at the I-AA level."

Shotwell filled out lots of questionnaires from about 20 teams during the week and was interviewed by Carolina Panthers and Baltimore Ravens representatives.

Shotwell also visited the Shriners Hospitals for Children in Houston last Sunday.

"That was an eye-opening experience and makes me feel how fortunate I am," said Shotwell. "To see these kids who have it so rough -- but have so much life and hope -- puts things in perspective for me. They were definitely an inspiration for me."

Cal Poly center and linebacker Stan Sheriff played in the 1954 East-West Shrine Game. Another 51 years passed before Cal Poly was represented by a second football player in the annual all-star classic.

Now the Mustangs can boast of a player in three consecutive Shrine games -- linebacker Jordan Beck in 2005, defensive end Chris Gocong in 2006 and Shotwell last week. All three are Buck Buchanan Award winners as the best defensive player in Division I-AA (now called the Football Championship Subdivision).

Shotwell, 6-1, 235-pound senior from Dos Pueblos High School in Goleta, led the Mustangs and the Great West Football Conference last fall with 122 tackles and an 11.1 average. He also was eighth in the nation in total tackles, first in tackles for lost yardage (1.91 per game), 13th in solo tackles (5.55) and 24th in sacks (.64).

Shotwell, who has four career interceptions, played in all 46 games in his Mustang career, including starts in his last 35 contests, and scored his first Mustang touchdown by taking a lateral from Kenny Chicoine and running 65 yards in the 2006 season finale against Savannah State.

Shotwell finished his junior year with 158 tackles, 23 more than Beck's single-season mark set in 2004, and as a sophomore he was second to Beck in total tackles with 88. Shotwell's career high for tackles in a game is 20 against Texas State on Dec. 3, 2005; he had 17 twice in his career and has reached double digits in tackles in 21 other career games.

Shotwell had seven sacks this year, including a school Division I-AA record 4.0 sacks against San Diego State, and 17.0 in his career, No. 8 all-time at Cal Poly, to go along with 392 total tackles, No. 2 at Cal Poly and 57 behind Beck.

Shotwell was named 2006 Great West Football Conference Defensive Player of the Year. He anchored a Mustang defense that posted three shutouts and finished the regular season ranked sixth in the nation in total defense (248.27), fourth in sacks (3.36), third in pass defense (133.00), 10th in scoring defense (14.73), 19th in rushing defense (115.27) and fifth in tackles for lost yardage (7.64).

Other honors earned by Shotwell include first-team The Sports Network All-American, College Sporting News Fabulous Fifty All-American and second-team Associated Press All-American.

After 80 years of playing in the San Francisco Bay Area, the East-West Shrine Game moved in 2006 to the Alamodome in San Antonio, Texas, and to Houston for this year's game.

The East-West Shrine Game is the oldest collegiate all-star game in the country. The game is played to raise money and awareness for the 22 Shriner Hospitals, which provide orthopedic and burn care at no cost to children across the country. To date, the game has raised over $14 million and has treated over 750,000 children.

Dan Reeves, former head coach for the Denver Broncos, New York Giants and Atlanta Falcons, coached the West squad this year while ex-Miami Dolphins and Baltimore Colts head coach Don Shula ran the East squad.
