Very little chance of Jim Rice, though he was a great player and one of the premier sluggers of his era, getting in period. I will be surprised if anyone other than Ripken and Gwynn are elected this time.

I am a loyal member of Red Sox nation...watched Jim Rice as a rookie with Tony C, and agree that Rice should get in...but I also have to agree with Mr. C that with a class like Ripken and Gwynn this year, there is very little chance Jim Rice will get his props and a tick to the HoF this year...:bawling:

edit: Hope I am wrong on this one...

The only number that even gets McGwire considered is his home run total. Even with that, you would be looking at one of the most mediocre Hall of Famers ever, in terms of almost every other career category. McGwire was an extremely up and down performer during his career. He was also a mediocre, at best, first baseman. And that's before you even bring up the drug issue. McGwire will not get into the Hall of Fame in this, or any other year in my opinion.

gut feeling wrong...his % went down from last yr but next yr is a weaker class so guys like Rice and Gossage have a better shot again
