Had some movement in the rankings this week. Likely to be even more with a slate of good matchups this week. UNI loses and WIU and SDSU squeak by. Without further ado, here are the rankings. Oh, and this is what I feel like in first right now:

These are some tough picks. Literally either team could win every single game.

Seems like the Yotes have somewhat shaken the turnover bug, and they're pretty decent when that happens.

MSU

The Bears have a real good defense that will cause WIU problems in MO.

SIU

I was pretty impressed with SIUs DII transfer QB, and I don't think the Birds have the offense to keep up.

YSU

YSU had a good defense, at home, against a Panther team that hasn't proven they can effectively pass the the ball well enough to force teams to not lock down on the rushing attack. Low scoring game though.

SDSU

Picking with my heart. That and I do think that the Jacks air attack is going to give the bison issues like never before seen in the Marker rivalry.

Two crushing losses in a row. They will come back with a vengeance at home against a team that is riding high. But, I believe that high ends this Saturday. 37-28

WIU
They will prove this week that the first three weeks weren't flukes and SDSU and Indiana State they were asleep at the wheel. (More like dead at the wheel against SDSU) But WIU's Defense shuts down a struggling offense which will help with a shorter field for WIU's offense. 41-21.

NDSU
Because, I would love a sceniro where SDSU loses to NDSU and then WIU beats NDSU.... so we can be confrence champs. (One can dream right?) But, in reality NDSU at home. They will shut down the SDSU pass attack a few times to claim the win. 34-31 NDSU.

ILL STATE
Toss up game, so I am taking the home team.

They will come out to prove they are a contender against a team that has their backs up against a wall, possibly putting a nail in UNI's coffin.

Not an easy week to pick. Too many teams have shown signs of being pretty good at times, but also have shown weaknesses. In most cases, it seems like it's just a matter of which team shows up to play. I think it's a situation where any team that thinks they can just give partial effort against someone they perceive as being "weak"...they're going to lose.

That being said, here's my guesses...

[X-Factor]

USD -

Is this a trend? Not yet, but USD's new coach is going to put pressure on SDSU in the near future. There is a rising offense to the south. What used to be the cardiac Jacks is now the cardiac Coyotes. A late rally makes up for mistakes earlier in the game. Playoffs? Don't talk about playoffs!

WIU -

WIU has enough offense to put this one away, although the score will be close. MSU will have trouble covering the WIU wideouts. #90 and #31 for MSU with some big time plays but come up just short. 5 point win for the 'necks.

NDSU -

A 1 dimensional team hasn't beat the Bison is years, and the only 1 dimensional team in recent history to keep a game close has been EWU, and that took some special situations. The Bison likely have the best D-Line in FCS and wreck havoc in the SDSU backfield. Bison cruise by 17.

ISUr -

Could the bleeding finally stop against SIU? The lack of defense by SIU allows some deep connections. ISUR defense steps up just enough for a 10 point win at home.

YSU -

Penguin defense makes a statement here, negating 3 turnovers by the offense to pull out a 19-16 win. UNI officially on life support, and a very dangerous team for the remaining schedule.

USD - I usually pick against them. Bucking my trend for this one.

WIU - MSU is improved but is it enough to win this?

NDSU - Bison run all over the Jacks porous defense and keep TC and his WR corp off the field.

Ill State - I think the Redbirds are falling but just going with my gut here.

YSU - YSU's defense is good and that should be enough at home.

So does UNI play into the hands of YSU. Their QB has less touch on his passes than Tim Tebow on a bad day. They have to try to beat you with the run, which YSU hasn't allowed a rushing TD yet this season. So there's that.

Jeeze, thought I would spend all week arguing the chances of the Jacks winning, not spreading optimism to a YSU fan xlolx

Yep, I had Central Arkansas a couple spots higher than Samford but probably shouldn't have, Samford's SOS is tougher and they won head to head but it was one of those victories where you felt like the better team lost but I know that probably shouldn't be a factor. I also probably gave Central Arkansas more credit for their FCS win that I should have.

I'm the Sacramento State of this game... just hoping to pick up a few points that were supposed to go elsewhere. Here's my picks anyway.


South Dakota @ Indiana St - USD should win but I have a feeling their inconsistency will show up after their big win and they'll sleepwalk on the road in a place that has very little atmosphere.

Western Illinois @ Missouri St - MSU's QB played very poorly last week... I'll need him to "show me" before I pick the Bears against a top 25 team.

South Dakota St @ North Dakota St - Waaaaay too many points will be scored in this game for my liking but I think the Bison defense forces a key turnover or two to provide the winning margin.

Southern Illinois @ Illinois St - SIU seemed really beat up during and after the SDSU game, I think ISUr takes advantage of that to get off the schneid.

Northern Iowa @ Youngstown St - This will be the anti-SDSU/NDSU... very few points scored. UNI plays inspired with their backs against the wall to come away with an ugly win.

ISUb...Could have beat WIU last week but a guy pissed down his leg instead of throwing a flag.
WIU....I dont see an upset. The MSU win over ISUb included a 21-0 2nd half where ISUb was missing 3 starting linemen who got hurt in the 2nd qtr
NDSU....just not gonna pick against them
SIU....Not a big fan if ISUr this year (or really the last 3 years and yes I know they nearly won the NC)
