I remember watching him in MVFC play and then watching a couple of SEC games later the same day. One thing that struck by me that I saw no one like David in any of those games.
Not surprised.

I can't get enough of FCS players thriving in the NFL. One would hope that people would start respecting the FCS more, but I think there will always be that notion of "huh, what a fluke to have a player this good come from the FCS".

Bittersweet for me. I drafted him in an auction league last year for $1. That meant I could've kept him for $11 this year (which is $60 less than he would've went for) but I had to drop him cuz my other RBs got hurt and they insisted on playing Chris Johnson's corpse over him most of the year. Damn you Bruce Arians!!!

If it took last night for you to be a break out game you're a full year behind.
Dude had a display in the HOF after week 3 last season.
Best FCS player in the NFL
Best RB in the NFL

If only UNI had used him to his fullest potential.
Also on those UNI teams the last 3-4 years
Chicago Bears breakout CB Dieonre Hall
Packers CB Mackinton Dorleant
Arizona Cardinals DT Xavier Williams
3 time AA SS Tim Kilfoy
About 3 AA DL
The Farley brothers at LB
Karter Schult - who is currently the best DL in the FCS.
The fact UNI doesn't have a title given all of the NFL talent the last 30 years is a twisted ****ing joke

I remember his senior season I left the only game I had ever left early. A loss to SDSU.
He averaged 8.9 yards per carry....was only given the ball 9 times.

1. This topic shouldn't be in the forum it's in
2. Not started by a UNI fan
3. He's no CGW - the only reason anyone knows what the FCS is.
4. I'd prefer the thread didn't exist.

I think he is the best RB in the NFL and easily the most underrated player in the NFL, Arizona is a media black hole for the NFL, even when the Cards are decent, nobody knows who they are.

63 points. Wow. Is that like 2 points a reception? I actually was about 1% of the population that had Julio on my bench. I'm in a dynasty league that I own AJ Green, Brandin Cooks, DeAndre Hopkins, and Julio. I have to pick 3 of those 4 every week. It's a good problem to have. I also own DJ in both my dynasty leagues. All my re draft leagues he was taken before my first pick.

Played against Johnson in one league last night, luckily also played Fitzgerald. Seriously regretting my decision to pick Lamar Miller over Johnson, based on reports of a shared backfield.

It is quite maddening. However, we never had a great QB or never committed to 1 QB the whole time he was here. His first year was Tirrell Rennie, then Kollmorgen (who showed promise, but whether coaching or otherwise never reached his full potential I don't think), and then Brion Carnes who was just bad. If our QB play could ever have come together we absolutely would have had more wins than we did during his tenure here.

Since back in the day (like, 2 years ago) David Johnson's name couldn't be mentioned in a thread without Zach Zenner and vice versa, I think it's only appropriate to point out that Zach Zenner will likely be the lead back for the Lions this weekend (Theo Riddick doesn't count). xwhistlex

I don't have a dog in this fight, but do you really want to compare his pro career to Johnson's at this point?

Well, Zenner has won a NFL rushing title in his short career (2015 preseason, baby) and DJ doesn't have that. xnodx
Strong arguments aren't formed by comparing, they're all about cherry picking stats and telling half truths.

If UNI had gotten 1 at any point up through 2008 it would be safe to assume UNI would have up to 5 titles overall right now. It became a mental thing very early at UNI.
85 and 87 were both semifinal losses (87 was OT). There is a number of UNI fans who believe if UNI wins either one of those almost none of the issues with late game losses happen.
Go to 05. UNI leads App State in the title game with about 4 minutes left. Strip sack returned for a touchdown to give App State the title. That started the modern day "Chicago Cub" effect on UNI fans. If UNI wins that game in 05 there is zero reason to believe the title isn't also won by UNI in either (or both) 07 and 08. Those were losses that were nearly a direct result of Farley going "We had a lead in 05 and tried to throw the ball. That lead to a turnover for a score and lost us the game". It caused him to go into a conservative mindset in close games.
I mean, who the **** knows.
It's just sickening to look at all of the NFL talent - or even college stars that were All Conference/All American but never made the NFL - and see zero titles.
Go to page 126 - http://sidearm.sites.s3.amazonaws.com/uni.sidearmsports.com/documents/2016/8/4/2016_UNI_Fooball_Media_Guide.pdf
The number of AA awards since 01 when Farley took over is nuts. Hell, going back to the mid 90s and seeing all fothe QBs and WRs on there is even more nuts.
10 times last season UNI had a MVFC POW
IIRC UNI has had more All Conference, All Americans and conference POY than any other school since the name changed from Gateway to MVFC.
Found the stats..since Farley took over in 01
133 All American selections
22 First Team All MVFC selections
15 MVFC Player of the Year awards
20 CoSIDA Academic All District selections
7 CoSIDA Academic All Americans
23 NFL players
20 wins over top 10 ranked teams
It's a mental thing that I don't know how the program gets passed. One title at any point over the last 30 years to get passed that mental hump and it's impossible not to think UNI doesn't have a handful of titles.
Que sera sera....I guess.

I've only been watching UNI for about 5 years. One thing that stands out is QB play is inconsistent. Every now and then it's good, but not for the whole season. Changing the offensive philosophy often doesn't help.
UNI D- Among the best in the FCS
UNI O- Average for the most part but wildly inconsistent.
I am just glad Farley didn't use David correctly, he might have actually won a NC.

That wasn't the case until 2013
I know people, and even I do it, point to 2010 when Rennie got to campus. However, he was solid for his two years. Kollmorgen was a monster as a freshman in 2012 but concussions derailed him. 2013 is where it all went to ****
A UNI QB holds the FCS record for career and season completions percentage. Go do a quick stat dive on UNI starting with 2009 and prior. You would never guess the stats you'd see

Kollmorgan 52% comp 2014

My son lives in the Phoenix area and has season tickets for the Cards. When they drafted DJ he didn't know who he was.I told him they got a stud who gave NDSU fits. He wasn't overly impressed. This season he wears DJ's jersey to the games.......UNI still sucks!

Had Sawyer been able to play 12, 13, 14 and 15 like he did 2012 there is no doubt NDSU doesn't have 5 straight titles right now. That also means we are starting the Eli Dunne era this year - a pocket style QB that holds 8 school records at a school that throws the ball a lot, in the top 5-10 in Iowa history in most passing categories, was a 3 time all stater, the Iowa High School Heisman winner. He completed 538 passes for 8,107 yards and 75 touchdowns in high school. There is a growing portion of the fan base that wants Dunne to play now - and last year. Hell, in limited action last season he averaged 16 yards per completion. In his two spring games Dunne has completed roughly 70% of his passes for about 350 yards and 6 touchdowns. Spring games are spring games, but the kid looks the part. However, we love to bring transfers in and promise them 2 years of starting, which means guys like Dunne get screwed out of at least a year - in Dunne's case 2.
Concussions are a hell of a thing though. Even "fully healed" it's tough to be the same player. They also happen easier and easier each time.
Sawyer is also a great "kid"....now that he's 23 years old. It sucks to see that happen to almost anyone, but someone of his character made it even tougher to watch
