View Full Version : Cubs Should Nail it Down

The Cubs finished with the best record in the Major Leagues. They have won 100 games for the first time since 1935. But none of that will matter if they don't win the last game of the year and can be called World Series champions for the first time since 1908. http://m.cubs.mlb.com/news/article/205022122/why-the-cubs-will-win-the-2016-world-series/They did lead MLB in a bunch of categories and they clinched home field early, but even though the 'brains' are picking them they have to follow through.

As a Giants fan, who is friends with a few Cubs fans, I am looking forward to the NLDS! Hopefully, the Giants can resurrect their play of the first half, when they had a league best record heading into the all star break.

Momentum means a lot. Better hope they don't face Bumgarner twice, since he's been known to throw several innings in relief on short rest.

As Harry used to sing,

ONE - Cubs open with a win

TWO

THREE strikes you're out of the old ball game

Not sure what that even means.

So much for the Giants, Cubs close their party 3 games to 1 to return to the NLCS. Now it's a best of 7 against either the Nats or Dodgers with Chicago keeping homefield. Both the Nationals and Dodgers are still considered underdogs to win the World Series, according to Odds Shark (http://www.oddsshark.com/mlb/mlb-2016-world-series-odds-tracker). The Dodgers are +1200 (bet $100 to win $1,200) to be crowned world champions, while the Nationals are +700.

Not at all sad to see the Giants suffer a soul crushing playoff loss at home. They've had their fun.

Did forget how much I love watching Jason Heyward fly around the bases though.

my sentiments exactly, did not want to see a game 5 back in Wrigley.....

Javier Baez flashed some serious leather in that series, a bit of a hotdog as well, but that's all right with me, baseball can use a bit more personality......

Go Cubbies!

I can root for whoever I want to. Sick of Cubs fans feeling entitled and thinking they have already won the WS.

Uncalled for: you may root for whomever you want but you came on this thread without rooting for anyone. This thread is about a baseball team, not fans. Unjustified: entitled fans who think their favorite team has "already won the WS"?

Not a great post season in the NL if you like pulling for an underdog. Just a bunch of big market teams.

Man never thought I'd be agreeing with a Usd fan. I'm on board with this 100%. Full disclosure I'm a Brewers fan. And before some crybaby Cubs fan comes at me about 100 years wah wah wah, there are teams out there who have never won it. I hope the Cubs lose in a way that scars Cubs fans for decades to come. Bunch of crybabys, go watch your hockey team.

hating a team because of any fan is ludicrious, same as blaming that team because of an animal

Then there's no reason for me to feel sorry for them. Poor cubbies. I think losing it in the 14th inning would be pretty epic.

NLDS uh-oh Cubs win game one 8-4 over LA, pinch hit HR by a bad back kid

3-0 until the 5th, 3-1 until the 8th, then game over with back to back HRs

Cubs dropped game one, 6-0 to Cleveland but Arrieta and the Cubs came back to nearly no-no the Tribe, winning game two, 5-1.

Now we have this Friday, Saturday and Sunday at Wrigley - can Chicago win this WS at home?

I'm pretty neutral on this series, but it ain't over yet.

1968
Detroit loses game 1 in St. Louis, but wins game 2.
Goes back to Detroit and loses games 3 and 4 before winning game 5.
Back to St. Louis where they win games 6 and 7, beating Bob Gibson in game 7 in the process.

It is certainly a long shot for the Cubs, but not a given at this point.

I won't contest that, particularly since you live closer. But on the other hand, my brother in law is in his mid-70's, grew up in the Northside of Chicago and has been a Cubs fan all his life. It would be pretty cool for him to get a championship. But Cleveland fans have waited a long time as well, and they are in the AL Central. Either way, this World Series has some good story lines.

My father in law has been a Cubs fan his whole life. I know for a fact he watches/listens to games nearly as often as he can.

I would like to see fans like him get one. However, for every 1 of him there are 8 or 9 Wal Mart Cub fans.
