Finally, Lauletta gets on the list.
BTW, I watched Cookus this weekend. He's really good and might win this award, but, IMO, Lauletta is a better QB. Jenkins could beat both of them. It's just tough at least to me to judge such a dual threat QB to a couple pocket passers.
Glad Menard is getting noticed as well even though DT Tanguay is the best on our line IMO, but he is almost exclusively double teamed.

Pujals might be done for the year.
Lehigh's offense is starting to get roll. Shafnisky and Pelletier are a beastly combo. Cooper Kupp and Wieneke get all the love (and rightfully so) but TP is right there after those guys imo.

Darius Jackson is a stud. Only a sack away from breaking the school record.
Eli's stats (his completion rating in particular) should only get better as the season goes on. Our offense is starting to find its rhythm and Barge will make a world of difference. I expect Jenkins will feast on the OVC once again.
What'a the deal with DeLuca? What happened?

He hurt his shoulder week 1. Sounds like they played him a couple weeks to see if he could play through it. Actually I think after week 2, Deluca and the doctors knew he couldn't play through it without surgery, but let him play against Iowa anyway because of how big that game was. Just speculation, but the surgery rumors started before the game.
Anyway he had surgery and will apply for a medical redshirt and hopefully return next year. A smart move, IMO, with what he has on the line with the NFL best not to play banged up and put out a bunch of poor tape. You could tell he was in a lot of pain playing.

Hope he gets the MRS. He's definitely an NFL talent and it would really suck for him not to get his chance.

He should. They've said they've documented everything and everything seems that he would be within the guidelines. If not, he'll still get in a camp somewhere, but it's financially significant to be a high pick. I think with a good season next year he could be as high as second round pick. He was on the Dick Butkus watch list this year, which is the best LB in the country all divisions.

Yeah 7 or 8 in the first halves of those games. And 5 in the other 2 games. I wouldn't expect a band geek to know anything about football, a "scout" on the other hand should be able to pop in film and recognize that this guy is a little bit more talented than you normally see.

No official word yet. Should note he is 2nd best QB with Rams Anderson in PL. Shafniskey leads the pack by a fair margin right now. #1 in completion % nationally.

FYI, those watch lists have zero impact on the draft. Coming into this year I would have put Allen of SIU on that list as well.
I don't know about him going in the 2nd round but if he comes back 100% I could have seen 4th or 5th round with how he looked prior to the injury. DeLuca was definitely the best LB in FCS prior to this injury.

Already have the RB on there. He is one of the 4 or 5 previously mentioned that I almost put on but wanted to see more of them before I go ahead and do it.
Here is that list in case anyone else was wondering.
QB Alejandro Bennifield, Chattanooga, Jr.- 49-74, 796 yards, 11 TD, 3 INT, 66.2%, 199 yds/gm, 44 carries, 145 yards, 3 TD in 4 games.
QB Gage Gubrud, Eastern Washington, Soph.- 109-163, 1430 yards, 12 TD, 6 INT, 66.9%, 357.5 yds/gm, 51 carries, 236 yards, 3 TD in 4 games.
QB Devante Kincade, Grambling State, Jr.- 64-93, 820 yards, 8 TD, 68.8%, 273.3 yds/gm, 26 carries, 74 yards, 1 TD in 3 games.
QB Josh Straughan, Southern Illinois, Sr.- 79-119, 921 yards, 6 TD, 66.4%, 307 yds/gm, 18 carries, -1 yard in 3 games.
RB Joe Protheroe, Cal Poly, Jr.- 93 carries, 557 yards, 6.0avg, 5 TD, 139.2 yds/gm, 2 catches, 66 yards, 1 TD in 4 games.
WR Chad Williams, Grambling State, Sr.- 33 catches, 471 yards, 14.3avg, 2 TD, 157 yds/gm in 3 games.
I went ahead and added them up top.

I noticed the good numbers. Want to see those guys get in PL play and see what they do when they face top 40 caliber teams. I hope Pujals can return at least in a few weeks because he is fun to watch.

Chattown,
Something you may not know about scouts. They look for best competition games on small school players. Scouts don't care what a FCS player does against Shorter or PC. For example, most around the NFL will only watch Davis, Craine, and the others against teams like Samford, Citadel, Wofford, and Alabama unless they come in early to the school and a D2 game or PC is all they have to watch. Most scouts won't even watch those games and they won't really care what is done in them. If your QB goes to Alabama and is 6 of 24 for 19 yards and 3 INTs then his domination in the SoCon pretty much goes down the tube.
And thanks for the quotes around scout. I guess getting paid by the NFL to go evaluate talent is not a scout but these police officers and school teachers and others who don't get paid to do it but use their free time to get on Twitter and pretend to be one are? Or the banker or the computer technician or whoever that you sit with on Saturdays that loves football but has never been around it except in the stands are?
FYI, just sitting in the stands every weekend does not mean someone has been around the game. It takes being on the field, being in meeting rooms, being in film rooms, locker rooms, conducting workouts, coaching, playing, etc to be around or in the game. :)
You trying to make him seem stupid is funny because what he said is fairly accurate. No good scout puts any stock in a D2 or D3 game when there are ranked teams and FBS teams on your schedule where you get a better gauge on a player's talent.
It took you 5 years to be right about UTC winning a SoCon title and it happened the same year everyone else expected it and they still haven't come close to a NC like you have made it appear to be. Sometimes people know a lot less about something than they truly do.
Remember, sometimes it is better to shut up and let people think you are a fool than open your mouth and remove all doubt. xthumbsupx
Good luck to the Mocs this weekend! I'm big on the play of Davis and Craine and expect them to have a big year!

Already have the RB on there. He is one of the 4 or 5 previously mentioned that I almost put on but wanted to see more of them before I go ahead and do it.
Here is that list in case anyone else was wondering.
THE WAIT AND SEE LIST
QB Alejandro Bennifield, Chattanooga, Jr.- 49-74, 796 yards, 11 TD, 3 INT, 66.2%, 199 yds/gm, 44 carries, 145 yards, 3 TD in 4 games.
QB Gage Gubrud, Eastern Washington, Soph.- 109-163, 1430 yards, 12 TD, 6 INT, 66.9%, 357.5 yds/gm, 51 carries, 236 yards, 3 TD in 4 games.
QB Devante Kincade, Grambling State, Jr.- 64-93, 820 yards, 8 TD, 68.8%, 273.3 yds/gm, 26 carries, 74 yards, 1 TD in 3 games.
QB Josh Straughan, Southern Illinois, Sr.- 79-119, 921 yards, 6 TD, 66.4%, 307 yds/gm, 18 carries, -1 yard in 3 games.
RB Joe Protheroe, Cal Poly, Jr.- 93 carries, 557 yards, 6.0avg, 5 TD, 139.2 yds/gm, 2 catches, 66 yards, 1 TD in 4 games.
WR Chad Williams, Grambling State, Sr.- 33 catches, 471 yards, 14.3avg, 2 TD, 157 yds/gm in 3 games.
Protheroe put up those numbers against an FBS team and two top ten teams. What are you waiting for? What is impressive about Protheroe is 90%+ of those yards came between the tackles. Kid is a beast with the ability to be hit at the line of scrimmage and still grind for 4 yards or hit a crease and go the distance. He ran for over 3,000 yards and 35 TDs his senior year in high school in San Jose. He is a special player.

I went ahead and added him to the potential adds list. Level of competition was certainly not hurting him. My issue is that in these option systems the FB is always going to put up big numbers. You almost need to average 8-9 per carry and have over 150 yards a game to be worthy of being on the list because you almost get 5-6ypc and 120 yards just by getting 15-18 carries a game because of the guessing that teams do and it is much easier to put up big numbers.

Also Protheroe could be a TB in a pro style offense and still put up big numbers. He is that good.

...vs. a Top 10 FCS, a P5 FBS, and a fair-to-partly-cloudy FCS
Hard to quantify the excellent decision-making that he has brought to the running game and to RPO's, which have kept the Bears offense on the field.
Also played all season (so far) without 3 leading All-SoCon (on 1 Team All SoCon Team or another at some point) Explosive-play Receiving threats (Chandler Curtis, Tee Mitchell, and Jimmie Robinson).
Also All-SoCon (on 1 All-SoCon Team or another at some point), RB Alex Lakes, has been slowed greatly by a nagging pre-season injury (only averaging 11 carries & 37 yds / game) and that has been an issue.
Russ is healthy this season (so far) after playing with a high ankle sprain all of '15. He's really looked A LOT like Jacob Huesman to me this year. If he had the 'supporting cast' that was expected, his numbers and the Bears record (IMO) would be much better. Getting Curtis back this week (I think), other Players filling into and growing into the roles expected of Mitchell/Robinson, and getting Lakes more healthy after the bye week may make a difference going forward.
So, as I said...Russ is one to keep an eye on here.

Chattown,
Something you may not know about scouts.
You are the type of "scout" that makes johnny manziel go in the 1st round, and a guy like tyler bray go undrafted. If you are scouting a qb for the nfl, and you ignore arm strength and accuracy because of competition level, you aren't a very good scout. Alejandro bennifield is still very raw all around, but his his down field accuracy is uncanny. His arm is very strong and very accurate. You should be able to see that If his recievers are running routes against air. If you are waiting to see what he looks like against alabama, you are going to be way behind. Then you can jump on the bandwagon like most of you jack wagon scouts are anyway.
Not doing your job, is not something to be proud of. If you don't know about alejandro bennifield, you are doing your job as a so-called small college "scout" for nfl teams.

Kupp EWU, Wieneke SDSU and Protheroe CP are the best I've seen West of the Mississippi. Not that it matters I think all will be playing at the next level.
Protheroe is putting up these numbers against quality competition that keys on him every game. Kupp is just outstanding even if a bit dinged up and
Wieneke is just a beast at receiver. My 2 cents. Cookus is also pretty special.

How in the hell do you know where he had Manziel rated? A lot of talent evaluators weren't high on Manziel. Some people were on record they wouldn't touch him before the fourth round.
How in the hell is he way behind? This cat is a junior. Is he planning on entering the draft early?
Another thing I've learned through watching Wentz go through this process is a lot of amateur scouts and fans think arm strength and accuracy are all that makes up a quarterback. There's a lot more to it than that, but not if you're a graduate of the Emory Hunt's "I'm smarter than the NFL" school of talent evaluations.
I hope this guy is good. I'd love to see some more FCS QBs in the NFL, but you're such an obnoxious homer nobody can take anything you say as possibly being objective.

Everything he posts is an nfl projection, no matter how he frames it, it's all about the nfl to him. His self described job is to find small school players for the nfl. He just gave a scouting philosophy that was the antithesis of what his job is. "What did he do against bama" is the "amateur scout and fan" perspective. He's supposed to be able to watch a D2 game and gleen some valuable information. This guy is garbage.
Let me tell you some other things about this bitch. He has threatened to ignore players because I gave him bad feedback. The reason why keionte davis isn't in his top 5, is because I embarrassed him about bennifield. I'm almost positive about that. This guy is a little app state jock sniffer, who got a job by blowing some dude and now he thinks he's the ****. Hes an idiot.

I'm not talking about him specifically but just saying those type offenses in general. I believe he is good enough to do well in a pro style offense but until we see it we just don't know for sure how well. If you can average 8 yards in a pro style then you should average 12 or more easy in a triple option. Adrian Peterson of Georgia Southern was keyed on more than anyone and only two teams that I can recall ever held him under 100 yards in a game, including I-A opponents.

If I ranked solely by the NFL then I would have Davis AHEAD of the UNI DE. He is a better NFL prospect at this point than him but yet I have the guy with better stats because that's what voters go by. The sole reason that Davis is not in my top 5 is because I don't think the voters would vote him as high because he doesn't have as much production as the others. Why would I care what you said about me in regards to ranking him? Look at the numbers of the others and tell me who is not having as good of a year as Davis?
You are right in that you can see a game against a D2 player and see something about the player but why would I gauge a player against a D2 guy who is small, slow, and a reject when I can see him head to head against a FBS or FCS powerhouse who is likely to have a legit NFL prospect he is facing to get a better window? That's like giving a previously unranked team credit for pounding a bad team by 35 points without waiting to see them play a top 10 team the following week to get a real sense of how good that team is.
You see the replies from others? Nobody is piling up on me but yet they are going after you.
Of course I provide insight or facts about how a process actually works and you go to name calling. Thank you for proving my point. I'm sure children read this message board and the way you are representing yourself is almost deplorable by accusing someone of doing that.

Doug Flutie was tiny as well. The size did not help Manziel but between his off field issues his on field talent did not even matter to me but had he been clean I would have said 5th-7th round simply because of production because at best he is a 3rd string type player. You don't want a starter who runs around as much as he does and he did not have a great arm or accuracy. I'm not sure if we talked about Manziel on this board but if we did I'm pretty sure I said bust and would not take him. I remember telling anyone who I talked to about him that he would not make it in the NFL.
A QBH is important because if you calculate them right it shows a player who is getting in the face of the QB and rushing him out of the pocket or making him throw the ball earlier than he wants to.
Here is the comparison of Davis and Schult (the only UNI kid I was talking about).
DE Keionta Davis, Chattanooga, Sr.- 12 TKL, 5.5 TFL, 5 SACKS, 2 PBU, 1 QBH, 1 FR, 1 BLK in 4 games.
DE Karter Schult, UNI, Sr.- 21 TKL, 12 TFL, 6.5 SACKS, 1 INT, 1 PBU, 1 FF, 1 SAF in 3 games.
Schult has as many TFL as Davis has tackles and is beat in tackles and sacks. Schult would be voted higher even though I say Davis would be drafted before him.

Yeah, that TD number isn't that impressive, considering who he's played to be honest. Let's compare some stats between Taryn Christion (who I don't think should be on this list) and Bennefield:
TC: 10 passing TDs, one INT, 809 yds, passer rating 178, 2 rushing TD
AB: 11 passing TDs, 3 INTs, 796 yds, passer rating 197, 3 rushing TDs
Two things to mention. AB has played one more game than Taryn, is a year older, and Tary put those numbers up against Cal Poly, TCU, and Drake. Drake sucks but the other two teams are better than anybody on Chattys schedule so far. So stfu about Bennifield for a minute.

A little surprised that you don't have Lorenzo Jerome on your list, at least as a possible add. I know most of his publicity comes from his special teams play, but his stats through 4 games at safety are very comparable to other S on your list ... especially given the level of teams StFU has played.
27 TKL, 1 TFL, 3 INT, 1 FR, 1 Bu, 1 QBH, 1 TD in 4 games

I almost did. He needs one more good game and I will. I do like Jerome and think he even has a shot at the next level.

I am confused as to why Chatttown even reads these threads if he knows that "He is a crap scout that doesn't know anything about football"?
I just love how he changed his narrative from "He only rates on NFL prospect". Once that is proven wrong he goes "Well how do these guys even have better stats?". Let's see how he spins it after being presented with the stats in front of him that show Davis currently can't hold Schult's jock in terms of statistics?

Good question. Like I said, anyone who wants to work in the NFL can have my job if they go to my bosses and show them a much better job of covering 50% of the country by themselves. If he is okay with getting up at 6am every day and going to a school to watch about 4 hours of film, spend another 2 getting info from coaches, and then driving 1-4 hours a day and staying in hotel rooms, typing up reports for hours, and all for average pay and no fame just let me know. lol

OK you did a top 5 not a top 1. QBH are not real. They can't be calculated because they are subjective. Watch any chattanooga game and tell me the qb isnt hurried even when they aren't pressured. 5 sacks and 1 hurry? That doesn't even make sense.

So take QBH out of the equation and Schult still takes a dump on Davis' stats.
Not sure why you're so hung up on QBH?

I see you've moved on to focusing on your d line after I showed you a true sophomore has better numbers than AB. Less yards and only two more TDs and an extra game to play must be a real kick of reality right to your jorts xcoffeex

FCS STATS NATIONAL DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
George Odum, Central Arkansas, OLB, R-Jr., 6-2, 190, Millington, Tennessee
Working out of the Rover position, Odum was all over the field in Central Arkansas' 28-23 triumph over Arkansas State - the Southland Conference program's second win over an FBS opponent since moving to the Division I level in 2006. UCA limited Arkansas State to 45 rushing yards on 34 attempts and Odum had 11 total tackles, three for loss which went minus-16 yards, two sacks and two forced fumbles. The second fumble ended the Sun Belt Conference opponent's next-to-last possession and helped allow UCA to hold on for the win.

An interesting thing about his QBH comment is that even NFL teams tabulate them. One thing though is that while not all schools do it correctly, thus they are subjective in that regard... if you know what a QBH is then you can accurately count them and they can be a good tool to see how good the defender is at getting in the backfield and disrupting plays when they don't quite get the sack.

Don't you know that even NFL teams don't know **** about football? If they did they would have drafted Bennefield out of high school. :D

Well compared to Chattown they don't have near the record. I mean I'm sure he has picked Pro Bowlers or coached a program to numerous titles. He has so much wisdom and experience. We all really should shut up because his proven track record and the amount of money he has made coaching and scouting in football is beyond anything the rest of us could ever do.

Lenard Tillery and Willie Quinn at Southern University, their stats definitely should have them in the discussion.

Just wondering if Taryn Christion would have a shot of making this list towards the end of the year? Or would the fact that he gets to throw to Weineke overshadow his stats and make people take his numbers at a lesser value?

You can tell he is talented. He is one I could see being added later on but he will have to get it going and start dominating consistently. I would imagine he starts lighting it up as the season goes on and is on the preseason list next year. At least that's what I'm sure JSU is expecting.

One thing to look for in the stats when you are talking about a QB and WR is if a heavy majority of the stats are to just 1 WR or if 3 or 4 WRs have a lot of production. If it is just 1 then you know it is likely just that WR but if it is several then you know the QB is spreading the ball around and not relying on just 1 guy to make him look good.
