BRENTWOOD, Tenn. – Following a 56-35 win over Austin Peay to open Ohio Valley Conference play, two Eastern Illinois players that saw their first action of the season on Saturday earned conference honors on Sunday.* David Johnson was named the OVC Defensive Player of the Week while Christopher Anderson was named the OVC co-Newcomer of the Week.*Johnson, a transfer from South Carolina, made his EIU debut against the Governors and made an immediate impact as the Panthers defense had 12 tackles for a loss as a team.* Johnson was in on 3.5 of those tackles for loss as he finished with seven total tackles.* He added a half sack, a forced fumble, a fumble recovery and a quarterback hurry during the victory.*Anderson, a junior college transfer, saw his first action of the season for EIU in the second half.* On his first EIU touch he rushed for 13 yards.* On his second career carry he found the end zone on a 14-yard run, one of two rushing touchdowns for Anderson on the day.* He would finished with 129 yards on 13 carries for a 9.9 yards per carry average.* Anderson added a six-yard touchdown run in the fourth quarter and also caught a pass.*As a team EIU had 641 yards of total offense, the ninth highest total in school history.* The Panthers, ranked 16th in the FCS last week, are now 3-1 on the season and 1-0 in the OVC.* EIU will travel to Southeast Missouri on Saturday for a 6 p.m. game.*
