No surprises here. Dennis Green screwed up when he benched SHSU product Josh McCown a few years ago when McCown had the Cardinals at .500 in his starts, which would've been good enough for an NFC playoff berth. Green has no clue what he's doing as football coach of that squad.

Early pick for the head coaching job is former Green Bay head coach Mike Sherman in my opinion and I'm sure Kirk LaFrentz will have his name brought up as well. They need an offensive-minded coach to help their star pupil, Matt Leinart...

The worst kept secret in the NFL is no longer a secret.

FOXSports.com has learned that the Arizona Cardinals informed Denny Green Monday morning that he has been let go as head coach.

GM Rod Graves, who is also rumored to be on the hot seat, appears to be safe at this point.

Green led the team to a 5-11 record this season, a disappointing showing considering the many moves — most notably the signing of running back Edgerrin James and drafting of quarterback Matt Leinart — the team made during the off-season.

In Green's three seasons in Arizona, the team never finished better than 6-10 and was a combined 16-32 during that stretch.

The team could look to add a personnel guy along with a new head coach, as Green was integral in both roles.

The rest of the staff is meeting with management today to see what their fate will be.

Look for the Cardinals to hire Steve Marriuci (sp?). He is a west coast guy and would do well with Leinart. Just a guess by me but I think it might happen.

Cheap guy like Bidwill may go for a lower priced option. Read Norm Chow.
Leinart enjoys working with him.

That pretty much sums up what the entire Valley thinks of the Cards. Do you think they'll have a ticket dropoff for '07, or will fans wait until after they host the Super Bowl next season?

People bought those season tickets so they can get first chance at the Super Bowl tickets in 2008. They may not show up to many games next year but they will keep their season tickets so they can get their hands on the SB tix and then sell them for a huge profit.

Ron Rivera would be good though I see an offensive-minded person taking over to mold Leinart...

From the Chronicle..

Texans assistant head coach Mike Sherman is going to be interviewed for the Arizona Cardinals' head coaching job Thursday.

The Cardinals also plan to interview Titans offensive coordinator Norm Chow, Steelers offensive coordinator Ken Whisenhunt, Steelers assistant head coach Russ Grimm, Colts assistant head coach Jim Caldwell and Bears defensive coordinator Ron Rivera.

Jim Caldwell? Are you kidding? He is the guy who had the Wake Forest job before Jim Grobe. Appalachian State used to beat his teams like a drum. He did a terrible job as a college head coach, though he did have working with Joe Paterno as a Penn State assistant on his resume. Caldwell showed me his coaching acumen one game when his team started offensively by running twice at Dexter Coakley and then throwing a pass at Coakley on the first series. Can you say three and out? I can't believe anyone would interview this guy for ANY head coaching job. But then again, you are talking about the Cardinals ...

Marty Morningweg will be available after Feb. 6th!

The knock on Morningweg is that he's not organized enough to be a head coach. Knowing that, the Bidwells will probably hire him! xlolx

Bidwell is such a cheap bastard. he is never going to spend enough money ib the right places to make the Cardinals successful. Dennis Green is a good coach, but no coach is ever going to be successful under a Bidwell. Remember, the St. Louis Cardinals didn't do that well, either. They just moved to Arizona. They lost in St. Louis, and they are going to continue to lose.

Who was the coach who actually took the Cards to the playoffs & won a game? Was it Vince Tobin?

Dennis Green is NOT a good coach. The Cardinals had enough talent to make the playoffs this year. Green is an egotistical ASSWIPE that got outcoached way too many times. Good riddance to his sorry ass.

Ever since Green blew the QB position when he was at Minnesota (taking out Rich Gannon after startin 8-3 and replacing him with ESPN's Sean Salisbury and subsequently not making the playoffs) I've been convinced that Green just isn't a very good coach. He had the best team and home field advantage in that NFC championship game against Atlanta and found a way to blow it and lose the chance to go to the Super Bowl. Haven't seen any real evidence that Green is a good coach and his record in Arizona reinforces that.

How can you base Green not being a good coach on that one game? I mean that was one of the few years when the Falcons actually werent sorry.

I agree with GannonFan. Green made many questionable decisions for the Vikings. I was a Vikings fan for 30+ years and I was happy to see him leave the organization.

That Vikings-Falcons game still brings back bad memories. They had the number one offense in the history of football, Randy Moss could outjump any defender, and Green didn't even try to score with time left in regulation. Told his QB to take the knee. :bang:

There's no gaurantee that you even get the ball in OT - and he took the knee in regulation. xidiotx Dumb, dumb, dumb.
