A strong overall effort and several big defensive plays provided positive storylines in the season opener as No. 23 Villanova (0-1) fell by a final score of 28-7 to Pittsburgh (1-0) in front of an announced crowd of 50,149 at Heinz Field on Saturday afternoon. The lone points of the game for the Wildcats came on a three-yard fumble return for a touchdown by junior safety Rob Rolle (Newfield, N.J.) in the third quarter.
