DAVIE, Fla. -- Miami Dolphins defensive end Jason Taylor says the candidacy of his likely chief rival for NFL defensive player of the year, Shawne Merriman, was tainted by a four-game steroid suspension in November.
"You really shouldn't be able to fail a test like that and play in this league, to begin with," Taylor said Wednesday. "To make the Pro Bowl and all the other awards, I think you're walking a fine line of sending the wrong message."
Merriman, who plays outside linebacker for the San Diego Chargers, has denied he's a steroid cheat and blamed his positive test on a tainted supplement

Like the Chargers quite a bit, but Merriman should not be in the probowl.

Depends on how you vote.
Solely based on the "season" he should definitely be there.
Morally, probably not

Taylor is just mad because Merriman fired his agent after the draft, which just happens to be Taylor's, ummmmm..
Merriman is insistant that he did not knowingly take steroids and that is was tainted supplements. I know you are responsible for what you put in your body. 16 sacks in 11 games gets him in.

I am going to guess that the NFL changes the rules this off season stating that if you are suspended for anything during the season, you are auto matically disqualified from post season honors and awards. You can't just make up rules midseason.
16 sacks in 11 games, under the current rules, he deserves to be in.

From a moral standpoint, he should be excluded this season. But, there aren't any rules prohibiting it and the rules are what governs the Pro Bowl voting, not morality.
Besides, if everything was voted on morality, wouldn't the entire Pro Bowl roster possibly be different. Are we voting picking a team of the "best players" or one of the "best citizens"? I'm not saying morality doesn't matter, just that it isn't a factor in the current voting system. Although, I'd like to see that system changed to prevent this in the future.
If you look at his stats, he deserves to be in. Besides, in the 4 games since he returned from the suspension, he's had a bunch of sacks.
