I didn't know about this until today. I haven't had cable for a number of years, but always enjoyed his work. Sports Reporters was a Sunday morning staple for me.

He was a classy guy and a very good broad caster. He will be missed.

Yes, he was a solid guy. No hyperbole. He gave you the game. I wasn't aware he was ill in any way.

Yes. John was very ill. He spoke with a group of Journalism students from Morehouse, Clark-Atlanta, and Spellman during a function for The Celebration Bowl last year that I attended. He told the group not to let anything or anyone hold them back and he got into challenges that he'd face with diabetes over the years. He also spoke to the group about mental health and his own bouts with depression and how mental health is a taboo subject in the black community.
