Ah, I was hoping that meant the top seed could play the first two games in their own arena.
This isn't that significant of a change imo.

Eventually I think they will have to go to that. Empty seats don't make any money.

Top seeds already get a geographically favorable location. For example, Duke goes to Greensboro and Kansas goes to Kansas City without the new rule. Now, Kansas will go to Kansas City and Duke to Greensboro. The NCAA touts this as progress, but it really doesn't change anything.
The current setup also allows for the potential of having two number 1 seeds at the same opening weekend location.
