Kind of a shame that SDSU is so lacking in talent outside of Daum, if they can put a few more players around him like Wolters had back in the day they could do something special. They have two more years since I think we can safely put this whole going to the NBA early idea to rest after today.

Good game between Vanderbilt and Northwestern. What a colossal mistake by the Vanderbilt player fouling with 14 seconds left in the open court, deliberate, and the lead.

I am the only guy with faux tears, I couldn't care less, NDSU could drop basketball and I wouldn't lose any sleep over it, I am just breaking your balls, I am not a big fan of conference tourneys anyway. If you have them, take the top 4 teams and get on with it. Oh it gives the SD schools an advantage. On the same token pretty much anywhere inside the conference footprint would give someone an advantage, and moving outside to somewhere that would be a "true" neutral court is going to have approximately 100 people show up.

While it might be a bit of a hike mileage wise, I wouldn't have an issue traveling from Fargo/GF or Omaha to the tournament if my team was in the semifinals or finals. It's still an easy drive so long as the weather is fair.

I think they had every intention of fouling us with 10-12 sec to get ball back with time for an organized last shot, but it wasn't called till 4 to go
hit both, should be game over
then a silly foul by ILS/ticky-tack call/phantom call whatever
I don't like to see the refs insert themselves into the game like that at that stage, but neither team gave them much choice in the matter
was it a foul by ILS? Probably. Should the ref have swallowed the whistle at that point? Probably true as well.

From what I read on Twitter it was a foul. I hate fouls called in that situation too, but I'm a big believer in if you'd call it with 17 minutes left in the game you call it with 4 seconds left in the game. It creates bad situations that will cause fans to bitch, but it is what it is.

I hope Illinois enjoys Underwood
He seems like a swell fella....eye roll
He was on the job at OSU for 362 days....
http://chicago.suntimes.com/sports/everyone-got-a-little-muddy-when-brad-underwood-bolted-to-illini/
Here’s what one Oklahoma State fan told the Oklahoman newspaper after Underwood left unexpectedly for Illinois this week:
“It kind of feels like you got duped by a used-car salesman as you hear the things in his Illinois news conference sound just like the things he said a year ago. You start to think it’s just all words.”
Wait, what? A used-car salesman? The guy who was greeted in Champaign on Monday as if he were a cross between John Wooden and Abe Lincoln? How can this be?
Illinois offered Underwood a six-year contract averaging $3 million a year, and Oklahoma State reportedly offered $2.2 million a year. So he left. He wanted more money, and his employer didn’t want to go higher. OK, understandable. There might have been friction with the athletic director. Again, fine. But Underwood is the same guy who swore he loved Oklahoma State to death, wanted to build a winner there and all but hoped to die a Cowboy
.
How much for that 2002 Buick Regal?
Underwood called Illinois a “dream job’’ at his introductory news conference in Champaign on Monday, a statement that, wait a second, sounds very familiar.
“A dream come true,’’ Underwood said of the Oklahoma State job at his introductory news conference in Stillwater, Okla., a year ago.
...
It’s hard to begrudge someone for wanting to make more money. But when that person has told everyone of his deep love for a school and then bolts like Usain Bolt, it’s very easy to begrudge him. You’d also like to bludgeon him.
I’m sure Underwood sold his vision of Oklahoma State to talented high school basketball players around the country. It probably looked a lot like heaven. I’m also sure that Underwood has called some of former Illini coach John Groce’s recruits to guarantee them he’ll be in Champaign for a long time. Because, you know, it’s heaven.
Can't wait for him to bolt from Illinois in 2 or 3 years. It's what he does.

Would you stay at a job where the administration didn't support you and what you were trying to build?
He wasn't even there a year. Seriously, not even 365 days. Not only that, I doubt his first contact with Illinois came the day before he was hired. There was no way to say that the administration didn't support what he was trying to do. He had barely settled into his ****ing office. Chances are he hadn't even met the entire athletic staff yet.
Having an understanding of how the college hiring process works - he probably had back channel contact with Illinois start in Feb, at the latest. Groce was fired March 11th. It's always been said, and is true, you don't fire someone unless you already have plans A-C mostly worked out. That means Illinois was back channeling contacts starting in Jan, if not December. A quick google search shows the "FIRE JOHN GROCE" machine really hit full stride in mid-Jan. That means his seat was borderline hot to begin the season.
I've heard/read from well respected people in the coaching search world that they firmly believe Underwood (or at the very least his camp) had first contact before Valentines day.
You'll defend him to your death on this, because he was yours. Hows that old saying go? "Yeah, he's an asshole, but he's our asshole". That seems to firmly apply to you right here.
I have similar experience at UNI. Greg McDermott - I'm sure you know who that is - played basketball at UNI. Was pretty good...actually in the UNI basketball HOF for his time as a player. He took over at UNI in 2001 and when he was hired at UNI said getting the chance to lead his alma mater was a dream come true. The program was garbage. It played in the UNIDome and drew about 300 people. That's not an exaggeration, there are people who were going to games in the 90s who said they counted the people at the games because there was so few. Anyway, Greg (along with Coach Jake who was his lead assistant and recruiter) turned UNI from a 7-24 team the year before he took over to a 21-10 NCAA tournament team in his third year. His 4th year was 21-11 and an NCAA tournament. His 5th year (05-06) was 23-10 and had the team ranked in the AP Top 25 for three weeks. That year ended in the NCAA Tournament (3rd straight year) with a 5 point loss to top 25 Georgetown. After that game he didn't get on the plane to fly back to Cedar Falls with the team. He got on another plane and flew to Indianapolis. Why? To inform Iowa State that he was going to accept their job offer. Five days later the hiring was made official - March 22nd, 2006. Why did it take 5 days to make it official? Well, he told Iowa State that he'd accept there offer, but he also was going to interview with Kansas State on March 19th, so he needed to hold off on making it official. Oh, Iowa State also hadn't fired Wayne Morgan yet when they had interviewed and "hired" McDermott. See, there was 5 days between that meeting in Indianapolis and making it official. Morgan was fired just 3 days before McDermott was hired.
It all worked out for UNI. While McDermott did say he wouldn't try to take any UNI recruits he had signed, he tried to steal every single one. It's why a redshirt wasn't used on one of them. He needed it, badly, but McDermott told him he'd play from day 1 at Iowa State so he demanded he play from day 1 at UNI. The players he tried to poach? Jordan Eglseder, Adam Koch and Kwadzo Ahelghbe. Go look at our S16 team and see what kind of role those 3 played. Oh, also notice how after Adam we also had Jake and now Bennett Koch? UNI didn't even do a search. They instantly promoted Ben Jacobson to head coach to keep recruits and keep the trajectory going.
McDermott and Underwood are the exact same snake. Difference is, McDermott found enough ways to **** his old schools over enough (especially UNI) as the years went on that we started to see him for the snake he really is.

I spent most of my time watching the D2 men's semis last night (I was at the quarterfinals in Sioux Falls on Wednesday) but would check in on the D1 games and saw the endings. The same announcers who told us that Oregon had fouls to give in the last seconds were critical of Michigan taking a wide open three by the guy who was keeping them in the game. The Zags played tough defense down the stretch to top West Virginia. Purdue started out hot but couldn't keep up with Kansas. And the X men hung in and came back to beat Arizona when I thought that they were dead in the water.

The last possesion going for 2 instead of 3 is to extend the game and hope that North Carolina misses free throws. Considering that both teams struggled from the free throw line. To me it makes sense especially since normally the other team is defending the 3 point line and there are times that you can get an easy 2.

I would have still went for 3, you got about a 35% to 40% of hitting it, going for 2 50/50 chance and then fouling and hoping they miss and then you have to hit a basket seems like a lot longer odds to me.
