'Cats add some depth to one of their strongest units recently.

Villanova has had some great linebackers for the last few seasons, and with Don Cherry and Dillon Lucas graduating, it is good that they added Keeling Hunter to the middle of the defense. The two-star recruit from Hightstown, New Jersey's Peddie School (by way of Franklin Academy in Tennessee), committed to the program in August (http://www.vuhoops.com/2015/8/20/9180957/villanova-football-recruiting-2-star-keeling-hunter-commits) -- the ninth of his class. Today, Villanova announced that he has officially signed his National Letter of Intent.
Playing at 6'1" and 220-pounds, he had garnered some moderate interest from FBS schools, and was flirting with the idea of playing in the Ivy League at one point as well. He re-classified to the 2015 class, taking a post-grad year at Peddie, after considering his options at the end of the 2014 season. He was a two-time Division II-A all-state selection at Franklin Academy, recording 113 tackles (20.5 for a loss) in his 2014 season.

Bernard Clark, a former NFL linebacker for the Cincinnati Bengals and the Seattle Seahawks, enters his third season at UAlbany in 2016. After serving as assistant head coach and linebackers coach in 2014, Clark was elevated to the position of associate head coach, defensive coordinator, and linebackers coach for 2015.
In his first season at UAlbany, Clark’s defense led the nation in turnover margin (1.25) as well as fumble recoveries (20), while linebacker Michael Nicastro earned third-team All-CAA honors.
As a player, Clark won two National Championships with the Miami Hurricanes and was named the 1987 Orange Bowl MVP. Earning a Bachelor of Business Administration, Clark went on to play three seasons in the NFL and two in the AFL before entering the coaching world.
Clark began his collegiate coaching career at James Madison University, where he trained the defensive ends for two seasons (1998-99). He then moved to Liberty University, serving as linebackers coach and oversaw special teams from 2000-03.
Clark had two stints at Florida International University (FIU), initially serving as defensive coordinator and linebackers coach during the 2004 and 2005 seasons. He then spent a year in the Big East Conference at the University of South Florida, coaching the Bulls’ defensive line in 2006, as they made an appearance in the PapaJohns.com Bowl Game. Clark returned to FIU for the 2007 and 2008 seasons.
In 2009, Clark served as Hampton University’s defensive coordinator before leaving to become Pitt’s linebackers

Delbert Cowsette enters his third season with the University at Albany in 2016 as the defensive line coach. A standout at Maryland who went on to play in the NFL, Cowsette brings a wealth of experience to the Great Danes.
In his first season, the UAlbany defense led the nation in turnover margin (1.25) as well as fumble recoveries (20) under Cowsette’s watch.
Cowsette came to UAlbany after two stints at Hampton University where he served as the defensive line coach, defensive coordinator, and recruiting coordinator.
In 2010, Cowsette tutored two All-Americans on the defensive end: Kenrick Ellis and Brandon Peguese, who helped the Pirate defense finish in the top three nationally in total defense. The Pirate defense also finished No. 1 in red zone stops.
As the assistant defensive line coach, Cowsette helped the Virginia Destroyers win the 2011 UFL Championship. Under his direction, the Destroyers finished first in every defensive statistical category.
Cowsette then returned to Hampton for the 2012 and 2013 seasons where he served as the pro liaison for NFL scouts, as well as developed an all-conference defensive end.
Cowsette was a four-year player for the University of Maryland, where he was team captain his senior year while earning All-ACC honors. After receiving a bachelor’s degree in geography (with a double minor in sociology and graphic design), Cowsette was drafted by the Washington Redskins and played for the New York Giants, Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Chicago Bears from 2000-06.
Cowsette began his coaching career in 2007 as an assistant strength and conditioning coach for the Terrapins, before moving on to become an assistant defensive line coach in 2008-09.
A native of Cleveland, Ohio, Cowsette is married to Alena Cowsette. They have three children: Laila, Delbert II, and Joseph Cowsette. He is a co-founder of the Premiere Intermediate Football League (wwwgopifl.com), and he owns the non-profit youth organization In Between The Lines (www.ibtlsports.com (http://www.ibtlsports.com)).

Jay Foster enters his second season with UAlbany in 2016 as the defensive backs coach.
Foster comes to UAlbany after serving as the head football coach for Division II Clarion University in Pennsylvania for the past nine seasons.
In 2009, he led the Golden Eagles to an 8-3 overall record and a second-place finish in the PSAC-Western Division with a 6-1 league mark. Narrowly missing the NCAA Playoffs, Clarion finished the season ranked eighth in the final NCAA Division II East Region Poll and Foster was named the PSAC-Western Division Coach of the Year for his efforts.
Prior to Clarion, Foster spent 18 seasons on staff at Slippery Rock University (1988-2005). He served the first 12 years as recruiting coordinator, and the last 17 as defensive coordinator. During his tenure, Slippery Rock boasted a record of 120-73-4 (61.9%), including three NCAA Division II Playoff invitations and four straight PSAC-West titles (1997-2000). In 1998, Foster led SRU to the NCAA DII semifinals and a No. 2 national rank in 1999.
Foster earned his masters in physical education from West Chester University in 1987 where he served as a graduate assistant coach for two seasons and helped the Rams win back-to-back PSAC-East titles.
Foster attended Plymouth State College (N.H.) and was a starter his junior and senior years at free safety. He was an All-New England choice in 1983 and the team was selected for the NCAA Division III Playoffs in 1984.
A native of Berwick, Maine, Foster attended Noble High School and graduated in 1977. He was captain of both the football and basketball teams.
Foster and wife Dorry have three children -- Sons Zach and Thom and daughter Brogan.

Nick Sanchez enters his second season as UAlbany’s cornerbacks coach in 2016.
Sanchez comes to UAlbany after three seasons at Ave Maria University where he served as Associate Head Coach and Defensive Coordinator. Under his direction, the Gyrenes ranked seventh in the country in third down defense, holding the opposition to a 28.9 percent conversion rate in 2014. In addition, four members of the defense were selected to the All-Sun Conference Team. In 2013, Sanchez helped lead Ave Maria to an 8-2 overall record and an Independent Conference Championship, and was selected to coordinate the defense for the NAIA team in the NAIA vs. D2 Senior Bowl.
Prior to Ave Maria, Sanchez was a Graduate Assistant at Syracuse University. Sanchez assisted Coach Scott Shafer with the defensive backs during the 2011 season and assisted with coaching the linebackers during the Spring of 2012.
A 2008 graduate of Stanford University, Sanchez signed with the Oakland Raiders as an undrafted free agent and then played with the Central Valley Coyotes and the Chicago Rush of the Arena Football League. At the conclusion of his professional football career, Sanchez began his coaching career as the defensive backs mentor at Pace University in 2010.
A four-year letter winner and three-year starter at Stanford, Sanchez closed his Cardinal career with 153 tackles, including eight for a loss of yards, seven interceptions, 19 passes defended three forced fumbles and three fumble recoveries.
Sanchez earned a Bachelor of Arts in Communications from Stanford and is working towards his Master of Science degree in Instructional Design, Development and Evaluation from Syracuse University.

Plungas enters his second season on UAlbany's coaching staff in 2016. He will assist the defensive assistant coaches.
A 2013 graduate from UAlbany, Plungas was a member of the Danes’ squad from 2008 to 2012. Plungas, a linebacker from Concord Township, Ohio, totaled 246 tackles in 43 games in his career. Plungas helped UAlbany win three Northeast Conference Championships (2008, 2011, 2012) and to the program’s first NCAA FCS Playoffs in 2011.
Prior to his return to UAlbany, Plungas spent the 2013 and 2014 seasons at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. There, he coached the linebackers and helped the Engineers to a 5-5 record in 2013 and 6-5 mark and an appearance in the ECAC North Atlantic Bowl Game in 2014.
