Thayer Academy senior offensive tackle Pat Lawler gave a verbal commitment to Villanova University today, he announced on his Twitter account.
The 6-foot-7, 270-pound Lawler, a Milton resident, committed today while on an official visit to the Villanova campus. The Wildcats initially offered him a week ago.
"I believe Villanova is the best fit for me academically, socially and football-wise," Lawler told ESPNBoston.com. "Over the recruiting process I developed a strong relationship with the coaching staff, and they have been great. I am excited to head down in June for summer workouts and help bring a national title back to Nova."
Lawler was one of the top uncommitted offensive linemen available in the 2016 recruiting class in Massachusetts. New Hampshire, Rhode Island and Central Connecticut State had also offered at the time of his commitment. He also had interest from UMass, Boston College and Virginia.
Lawler joins Millis-Hopedale guard Peter Fallon among the in-state offensive linemen heading to Villanova for the 2016 season. Long-term, the Wildcats are hoping to play Lawler and Fallon alongside each other at tackle and guard, respectively. Lawler's cousin, Holliston junior quarterback Jack Barrett, led the Panthers to season-opening 22-21 win over M-H to start the season, which ended in a second straight MIAA Division 4 state title and ESPNBoston All-State honors for Barrett.

Demo Odems Assistant Head Coach (WR) (Iowa 1996)
Demo Odems is in his third season on the SFA coaching staff, serving as the Lumberjacks’ assistant head coach while overseeing the SFA receiving corps.
During the 2014 season, SFA’s receiving corps helped pace the Lumberjack offensive unit which ranked third in the Southland Conference in total offense, averaging over 250 receiving yards per game. Three receivers each posted over 600 receiving yards on the year, including a season-high 743 yards on 70 receptions by senior Tyler Boyd, a two-time All-SLC selection.
Odems comes to Nacogdoches after spending two seasons at Montana State University, working with the Bobcats’ running backs as MSU advanced to the second round of the FCS playoffs in 2012.
Odems also has a great deal of knowledge of the Texas high school scene, serving as the head coach at Lyndon B. Johnson High School in Austin for four seasons, helping lead his alma mater to three district titles in four years, including the program’s first outright title since 1995 in 2011.
Prior to returning to Austin, Odems spent one season each at Arkansas-Monticello and Wisconsin after serving as the offensive coordinator at Lancaster High School from 2001-04.
The Austin native began his coaching career at his alma mater of Lyndon B. Johnson High School, following a standout career as a receiver at Iowa, earning his degree in 1996. He played indoor football professionally following his collegiate career, being named the Ironman of Arena Bowl XV competing for Grand Rapids in 2001.
Odems is married to Kimberly and has an adult son, Justin, and daughter-in-law, DeMonica.
