View Full Version : A "way too early" look at the five best FCS recruiting class for 2017

Hey FCS fans!

I'm Brian with HERO Sports. I've been covering FCS recruiting daily for the past month or two. Used to do the 5-star coverage with BCS teams, but this is much more fun and the kids are much better to deal with.

Today we published a story outlining the five programs out to the best start ... these five definitely are ahead of the pack, but of course that could change in a month's time.

Any feedback would be truly appreciated, and thanks for giving it a read if you have a sec. We're about to ramp up our FCS coverage this fall, 10-fold. We want to reach fans like you all.

Thanks
Brian

Hey Brian, welcome to the place. Good content you added here and hope you keep it coming. Couple quick notes for you. You will need to make 10 posts to have full membership that won't require me approving threads/posts and so forth. Sorry, just the way it has to be presently. If a post/thread is taking a while to be approved then pm me and I'll get it up ASAP.

Second, the forum known as "INs & Outs" is the proper forum for recruiting stuff and I will move this thread for you. If you have any others recruiting stuff just throw em' up in there.

I will leave this on FCSD until tomorrow morning.

I find it very interesting that Colgate is rated #2, although its still early. It clearly shows the positive impact on recruiting a run in the FCS playoffs can have. I wish the Ivy League would see the light and accept their automatic bid to the FCS playoffs.

Maybe if Yale wins this year it can travel to Fargo in February!

Glad you're back Observer. We Voy refugees missed you.

P.S. I think they play in a dome in Fargo so I'm fine with that.

By the way, Abu Daramy, a 3 star recruit from Choate who was supposed to go to Yale next year, ended up at Colgate. Colgate should be very good in the years to come.

I'm guessing your the fun guy at the party. I'd love to hear you hash out your issues w the FCS though, just not on this thread.

He barely made it through Choate after Yale stashed him there for a year to work on his grades, and then they couldn't squeeze him past Admissions on the second try. I guess the "AI" at Colgate is a bit more flexible!

As usual well written Brian. Bout time you git here :). Way way too early for sure but Gate's 5 current verbals do deserve a nod.

I'm sure your happy that Harvard never has trouble sneaking athletes through admissions. xthumbsupx

Wait ... I thought Yale was opposed to domes ... or is that only in New Haven?

Correct. Ideally the playoff game would be played at the Yale Bowl with no dome.

Don't see it happening.

I wish the Ivy League would follow the lead of Yale athletic director Tom Beckett- who suggested a bowl game for the Ivy champ. In my imagination, Mr Beckett always wears a Yale football helmet, B.D. style.

whoops my bad I put up 2016--but on the other hand most were not recruited "way early" and getting 2-3 "early ones does not a great class make--

Right on cue - SIU hyping the hell out of a bunch of transfers for a team that will miss the playoffs

Looking at SIU's roster every year, you would think they would dominate the league with all of their FBS drop downs and "star rated" kids.

All I have to add is that Coach Hill better improve that defense or the Salukis will do nothing.

At least we get a chance to pull a choke job. Outside of the few years Kill spent in Carbondale SIUs season is over by the second week weekend of October.

And you have 8 total playoff appearances. The other being before the FCS truly formed into the FCS as we know it.

So yeah, outside of the little bit of time Kill spent in Carbondale that's absolutely true.

Outside of the kill era SIU has an all time win % of roughly 44%

Did the math

Years outside of Kill player lead teams (those 7 years) SIU is 368-487-32...43.3%

We do this dance every year---leaving out seven selected years to prove your point is weak--Hopefully your big a** inflated head will lose a little air after this year's game--but I doubt it--should be another close game--the Dawgs and the Cats are 8-9 in the last 17 years, favor of UNI--that's not anything near domination (by the way Lennon's team won more against the Cats than Kill's)

Great...SIU's record including Kills runs is 439-508-32. A massive improvement to 46.4% all time. SIU is 16-18 against UNI.

It is only June of '16 now. I'm sure SIU will have probably a 1/2 dozen to a dozen transfers come in before these kids even step on campus.

Clenz is right, outside of the Kill era, SIU has been mediocre at best.

You're right, I meant next year. I'm sure they will bring in another big class of FBS dropdowns for '17.

Their new coach better improve the defense or it will be the same ol song and dance in Carbondale.
