Unless Lincoln was able to find an opponent who offered a much bigger payday I can't see why they would back out of the agreement. I'd think they would stand to make at least 50k for this game which is not bad money for a small D2 school with a program that isn't too good. Because CCCSU is within driving distance I'm almost certain they wouldn't have spent too much for travel a 4.5 hour bus ride
I can't speculate what happened to cause this change with CCSU, but Lincoln is now scheduled for a CIAA conference game on that day (9/23 vs. St. Augustine).

Charleston Southern hasn't released their schedule yet but their 9/23 is not yet accounted for.
Davidson is the only Pioneer team not playing on 9/23, however, they have already released an 11-game schedule and that is their open date. CCSU would have to sweet-talk them into dropping one of Brevard, @ Western Carolina or Guilford to get it done.
Nothing like Davidson's scheduling approach. Welcome to Brevard College. enrollment 708.

No smack--Davidson should aspire to non-conference opponents in Division I. The problem is that they haven't defeated a Div. I opponent out of conference in 10+ years.
Georgetown aims low in scheduling but at least they stay in the subdivision. Its last sub-Div. I opponent was 22 years ago.

But why do the Ivies follow the lead of the likes of Georgetown and the PFL? I'm sure that's the reason why fan popularity of Ivy League football has gone down the drain in the past 20 years or so. xsmhx

Because they aren't competitive with other leagues. The Harvard Brahmin aren't comfortable losing 44-7 to James Madison or Youngstown State when they can beat up on Georgetown instead; but, to be fair, Harvard never leaves the Northeast.
What other conferences don't understand--non conference games mean (next to) nothing to the Ivies. If the Ivy went to a seven game schedule (only games in conference) it would be judged acceptable by most of the school presidents.

Why does it matter? Davidson's goal clearly isn't to get an at large to the playoffs. So why do people care if they play Brevard and Guilford?

I would imagine they don't care too much as they aren't really focused on qualifying for the FCS playoffs. Only becomes a factor if they have a stellar record & don't go to the Pride Bowl ala NC A&T this season. Small window most seasons.

Northeast Conference teams have begun to add FBS opponents to their schedule. Central Connecticut was the first NEC program to play a FBS opponent in 2009 (at Western Michigan) as a "non-counter." Wagner has had at least 1 FBS opponent on their schedule beginning in 2012, has a FBS opponent scheduled through 2019; and was the first NEC program to schedule a "Power Conference" FBS team.
In 2017, only CCSU (at Syracuse) and Wagner (at Western Michigan) have a FBS team on this schedule.
In 2018, CCSU (at Ball State), Duquesne (at Hawaii), and Wagner (at Syracuse) will play a FBS opponent.
In 2019, Robert Morris (at Buffalo) will face their first FBS opponent. Wagner (at UConn) also has a FBS opponent scheduled. CCSU and Duquesne are likely working to add FBS opponents in this season as well.
In total, 4 of the 7 current NEC schools will have scheduled a FBS opponent - only Bryant, Sacred Heart, and Saint Francis have yet to schedule a FBS opponent.

I don't know all the details of the contract, but it sounds like we went back to the negotiating table and reworked some things (amended contract). Instead of CCU playing in Macomb in 2017 as the "return" for us playing back there in 2015, the "return" became another game at CCU and a $300k guarantee: http://www.fbschedules.com/2017/01/coastal-carolina-to-host-western-illinois-in-2017/
So, we ended up not losing a game off our schedule and picking up an FBS game that it didn't look like we were going to have (w/ corresponding payday). The downside is that this season, our only home games are the four conference games. All three of our OOC games and the other four conference games are away.
Good thing we've got a couple that are relatively close to Macomb, I think I'm going to try to get up to Cedar Falls for our game at UNI and maybe over to Normal for our game at ILSU. Otherwise I'm not going to get to see much live football this season (outside of the possibility of home playoff games if we do really well).

Sounds like a pretty good deal for the football program. Luke you said losing the home game stinks but 300k certainly helps plus if some road games are close it isn't too bad.

At least one of the OOC games isn't too far away, we play Tennessee Tech at their place, which is about a 1-day drive from here (and we've been recruiting quite a bit in the Tennessee/Georgia region, so that'll be nice for some of the player's families). Of the conference games, thankfully 3 of the 4 away games are within a 4 hour drive from Macomb. Can't make it up to Fargo this year; unfortunately traveling that far just for a football game doesn't really work with my current family situation. Once my kids are a bit older though, I do want to get to Fargo at least once, just to see it.

But, on that note, I'm out. I've been around AGS and its precursor board (whatever Ralph called it back then) long enough to understand that everything ends and nothing ends the way you thought it would. No last thread, no big deal.
Everybody drive safe and enjoy the games. If you don't like the way they come out, well, they'll play most of them again next year.

Because Portland is the state's major population and financial center, and Fitzpatrick is the largest stadium in the city. Every UMaine sport plays at least one game a year in or around Portland.

In a shocker FCS member Penn of the Ivy League is hosting D2 Ohio Dominican University to start the 2017 season. Has any other Ivy League school scheduled a non FCS member in the last 10 years. If they're going to cut checks to play opponents of a lower level why not take a money game against an FBS member. While Penn doesn't need the money they would be giving their kids an chance to play in a historic venue like possibly at Alabama, Florida State, Southern Cal, Clemson or even in state schools Pittsburgh or Temple. I excluded Big 10 schools as they've banned their schools from playing FCS schools
