2017 New Hampshire Schedule
Sept. 2, Maine* (Battle for the Brice-Cowell Musket)

Wait.....what??????????

FUBeAR
January 18th, 2017, 08:16 AM
Not official/Not announced yet, but I am almost certain that this is Mercer's schedule for 2017. I've italicized the 3 weeks about which I am not certain...

9/2 - OOC (FUBeAR GUESS is Jacksonville U.)
9/9 - Wofford*
9/16 - @ Auburn
9/23 - @ East Tennessee State*
9/30 - VMI*
10/7 - @ The Citadel*
10/14 - Chattanooga*
10/21 - @ Furman*
10/28 - Bye
11/4 - Samford*
11/11 - @ WCU*
11/18 - @ Alabama

* = SoCon Game
BOLD = Home Game

NOTE: I am almost certain 9/2 will be a Home OOC game for Mercer, but less certain that it will be vs. Jacksonville University. That part is just a hunch.

With Wofford and Richmond going up to Andy Kerr this year, Colgate seems to have begun to find ways to schedule away from the Ivys. Now, for 11 games. I wish them well.

We have Furman coming up to Hamilton this year, which is probably who you were thinking. Still only at 10 games, and I haven't heard anything to suggest an 11th is coming

Would love a series with the Terriers though xnodx

Villanova schedule (pulled from other teams announcing schedules & some deductive reasoning)

9/2 @ Lehigh
9/9 @ Temple
9/16 Lafayette (Parents Weekend)
9/23 @ Albany
9/30 @ Towson
10/7 Maine
10/14 @ James Madison
10/21 BYE
10/28 Elon (Homecoming)

Pretty much just need Albany & Elon to decide what they are doing & we'll have the CAA schedule in place.

Makes sense. I think that also means that Albany and Towson visit Elon on 9/30 and 11/4, respectively. That would makes Elon's likely schedule to be:

9/2 @ Toledo
9/9 @ Furman
9/16 Charleston Southern (could also be 10/14 but that seems unlikely)
9/23 @ Richmond
9/30 Albany
10/7 W&M

11/4 Towson

Correct, but more likely that both will have a bye on the later date of 10/14.

I have compiled this for Albany:

9/2 @Old Dominion
9/9 ???
9/16 Monmouth
9/23 Villanova
9/30 @Elon ?
10/7 @Richmond
10/14 BYE?
10/21 Maine

Hasn't been announced yet, but we think Albany's homecoming is 10/14, so that would probably be the third OOC game. Homecoming "could" be vs. Maine, but Albany's hasn't been that late in eight years, it's usually Oct. 8-15.

Hacker then factored in comparable death rates for foreign-born white troops and existing estimates of mortality among black soldiers. Rounding to the nearest 50,000, he arrived at a probable range of 650,000 to 850,000 deaths, which averages out to 750,000. This number is 20 percent higher than the commonly cited count of 620,000. If Hacker is correct, one out of 10 white men who were of military age in 1860 died as a result of the Civil War—not one out of 13, as the traditional figure implies.
Although this census-based method does not distinguish between Union and Confederate deaths, Hacker was able to discern patterns for various regions of birth. For instance, he concluded that mortality was significantly higher for white males between the ages of 10 and 44 born in the South (13.1 percent) and in the slave-holding border states of Missouri, Kentucky, Maryland and Delaware (12.7 percent) than for those born in the free states and territories (6.1 percent). At a more granular level, 22.6 percent of Southern men who were between the ages of 20 and 24 in 1860 lost their lives because of the war, according to Hacker’s findings.

Again. With only a few exceptions, Butler has played at a lower-division opponent every year since their moving to D1 in 1993.

We pretty much knew this was the case, but it's confirmed now. Maybe we can pull off two FBS wins in a row after beating Northern Illinois last year.

Indeed. It's not a giant payday, but it's better than trying to find another team to play. It'd probably end up being a lower division team, and we already have one of those on our schedule for next year. I'm still holding out hope that the reason that our schedule hasn't been officially released yet is because they're still trying to work out someone to play instead of Saint Xavier University.

Are they?

Pretty easily. The antiquated estimate of those vile invading bluebellied scum was 370,000 dead, IIRC, The number of gallant, brave, defenders of home and fireside who wore the butternut was 250,000 dead. Take those numbers of killed and raise them by the figures cited and you get 420,000 yankees "stiff in Southern dust". So 420k.

So these numbers are just a guess that nobody can agree on from what I can tell.

May be you can explain to me----why you surrendered it you had killed 200,000 plus more union soldiers than what the south experienced?

I wish we had the cash to pad our non-con with NAIA/D-II and Pioneer teams instead of traveling to SEC stadiums and FCS conference champs for paydays. With our conference schedule, we'd go from a 1 or 2 win season this year to 4 or 5. It's cupcake stuffing and we'd be nowhere close to the postseason, but this is one trick Bill Snyder employed to make Kansas State competitive, which in my fan/alum experience is about the high end of what our program can achieve.

You changed my mind - we go 10-1, blow the doors off UM-Chicago, Boomer takes a big steaming crap on those stupid rocks, beat UND so bad the Bison forfeit pre-game, get flagship status from the MO legislature, get an actual live bear as our mascot that we take to Youngstown to wrestle Bo Pelini at halftime, but still lose to UNI because your entire team, including the Gatorade cooler and the guy who holds the down marker could get polio the week before the game and still beat MSU. (I actually thought we had your guys before last year's game. Never again...)

Did Towson get multiple home games in a series with St. Francis? I was surprised to see they were traveling to Loretto, PA. When I traveled home from the UNH at Pitt game, out of curiosity I went to Loretto. Small campus in a VERY small town, well off the beaten path, thought I was at a monastery not a college town, extremely small "stadium". Meade Stadium at URI will look huge in comparison.

Why doesn't Towson look at a series with Georgetown? An hour bus ride each way, Towson might even get a home-only series given the deteriorating sate of Georgetown's facilities. Meanwhile, GU is running low on non-conference opponents to play as even Davidson has dropped off the 2017 schedule.

Saint Francis has made 3 recent trips to Towson, so I assume this was either a "3 for 1" or "2 for 1" home/home deal.

Sep. 22, 2012 - SFU 17, at Towson 46
Sep. 12, 2015 - SFU 20, at Towson 35
Sep. 10, 2016 - SFU 28, at Towson 35

The Red Flash lose Jerome, but might have enough returning from the NEC Championship team to make this a tough one for the Tigers in Loretto.

I would love to see my Blue Devils sign up for a deal that would get them another PL opponent at home, and bring them down to the District for a return. If you are really willing to schedule outside your comfort zone, get on the phone with CCSU. I live just a few miles away from the GU campus, so that's a road trip I would fully support!

FYI - If you want to increase the number of potential non-conference opponents, I suggest you diversify your portfolio and start looking at buying State-backed bonds ;) Since 2005, Georgetown has only scheduled 2 public universities (Old Dominion and Stony Brook) in football.

That's a daunting schedule with the 1st two games being quality FBS games and the 3rd game being at CAA power Richmond. With a new coach I suspect he'll have them ready and up for the challenge. Would be great to see the premiere HBCU become respectable in college football and competitive not only in the MEC but within the FCS period. Won't happen overnight but with a few good recruiting classes its a great possibility especially if he doesn't get poached by a CAA/Big South school in the next few years.

Not exactly murderers row of FBS.

UAB - first year back to football. Most teams from BSCs, MVFC, CAA etc could beat them.
Vandy - decent, but Vandy
USA - jeckle and hyde team of the mighty, mighty Sun Belt. Struggled to beat Nicholls last year.

I never like to see FCS/SoCon teams schedule themselves out of the post-season, and that's just about what Mercer is doing.

If you assume Mercer loses to Alabama and Auburn, they'll have to go, what, 7-2 over their remaining schedule to have a realistic shot at the post season?

Colgate's schedule this year is really good. I've been critical of their recent slates but 2017's is excellent.

Lehigh's 2017 schedule is extremely uninspiring. The Wagner game has very little attraction. Monmouth has become too familiar of a face. It's time Lehigh exacts some revenge on the Beach Hawks and move on from them for a few years...

Thanks for the update, '83.

Not happy to see most of the Ivies go by the boards (guess that 2017 Dartmouth game will never be made up), but that was their decision. End of an era.

However, pleased to see schools like Cal Poly, Richmond, William & Mary, Furman, UNH and Army on the slate. No issue re: four home games - we have often played only two, three or four games through most of the program's history. Four or five home games is the most we can realistically expect.

Absolutely not true. Lehigh has had some excellent OOC schedules but its been inconsistent. Only one year, 2012, did it truly suck. 2010 (#1 and defending national champ 'Nova and playoff bound UNH), 2011 (Top 25 playoff bound UNH and Top 25 Big South Co-Champ Liberty) and 2014 (#1 overall seed UNH and playoff bound JMU) were especially strong by FCS standards. It did not... but it wasn't the fault of the 4 home games. Choking away the Cornell game at Andy Kerr was the season changer, firmly believe we would've been better against LU & FU if we had stepped on the Big Red like we should have. Win that one & it's a different season, though still marred by only having 10 games...

Yep, should have mentioned that. I also remember folks complaining about our "backloaded" '15 schedule where all our league games were in November... and we squeaked out wins at Kerr vs. LU & FU that got us to our tournament run. I don't mind playing a bunch of OOC games on the road, as Go mentioned that's our heritage & probably looks even better should we win them and then be in consideration for an at large bid.

Very few FCS programs play 2 Top 25/Playoff bound team in the OOC. I would consider the 2010 (Villanova, UNH and Harvard) and 2014 (UNH and JMU) as excellent.

(And yes, Harvard's three non-conference opponents were 2-9, 2-9, and 3-8 in 2016.)

I don't understand why that matters. Ivy League teams only play football for alumni engagement. Why not win more games? 99.9% of Harvard's alumni couldn't tell you who is better, James Madison or Savannah State. As it should be.

I understand that it is easy for those on this board to put way more importance on non-conference schedules and the like than they are worth. Most fans of these programs don't care about the national picture at all. They want to go spend a nice day out at a tailgate, watch a game, hopefully see the alma mater win. At the end of the day, the difference between going 6-5 with a cream puff schedule and winning 4 games at home that gets the alumni happy, and playing a challenging schedule, going 7-4, making the playoffs and getting sent to the middle of nowhere halfway across the country is probably a wash.

Hell of a schedule I would assume Montana, Appalachian State both offered a good payout hence the reason they aren't playing a P5 member. App State doesn't require a plane ride just a 6 hour ride up north. Montana most of that guarantee probably goes towards the plane/hotel fees I would assume.

Interesting note regarding Texas Southern and FAMU's season opening games

http://www.fcs.football/cfb/story.asp?i=20170213102243599620904

***
To play an early opener, Florida A&M and Texas Southern, two of the nation's historically black colleges and universities, or HBCUs, want to use the "FCS First Contest Exception" in the NCAA Bylaws. It allows for two non-conference programs to face each other as long as they are playing in a nationally televised contest (broadcast or cable, not Internet-only).
NCAA spokesman J.D. Hamilton said neither Florida A&M, from the MEAC, nor Texas Southern, from the SWAC, has contacted the governing body for the necessary waiver to play on Aug. 26. Also, a broadcast network has yet to be announced, said Elliott Charles, Florida A&M's deputy director of athletics.
***
Including the potential early opener, Florida A&M and Texas Southern do not have a mutual bye in their schedules until Thanksgiving weekend.

This is not new. Ever since they (Rutgers) were humbled by UNH back in the 90s,....

I think Richmond spanked Rutgers as well in the mid or late 1990's....

This is not new. Ever since they were humbled by UNH back in the 90s, Rutgers obviously made some internal commitment to plug HBCU schools as their annual FCS fodder.

Actually, I believe that was merely 2004, when Ricky Santos was a freshman.

Judging by the schedule looks like they should contact Wagner about a game on 10/21. Wagner probably wants a home-away deal though but its worth doing as the Tennessee kids would get a trip to the Big Apple, and in return next year the Wagner kids can visit Country Music city Nashville.

I wonder how often does a FCS opponent play at an NAIA opponent.

We almost had to. Had Saint Xavier (IL) on the schedule for this year for a while. Because of CCU going all Sun Belt on us, we had to scramble to find another opponent and they were the only one we could find on fairly short notice. Until the deal with Tennessee Tech came along, we had SXU on our schedule. Downside is that we only play 4 home games this year, no non-conference home games...but they are all DI, at least.

Yep, that must have just fallen through yesterday based on that posting. The game vs. D-II Lincoln (PA) hadn't been announced or official released, but was still posted internally as recently as this week.

On 3/28, the SID posted an article regarding spring practices that include this line:

The complete 2017 schedule will officially be released shortly. The Blue Devils will play home Northeast Conference games on the road vs. Wagner, Sacred Heart and Duquesne, and will host Bryant, Robert Morris and St. Francis U in 2017. http://www.ccsubluedevils.com/sports/fball/2016-17/releases/20170328f4id1d

My guess is they were totally caught off guard by this last minute withdrawal by Lincoln. CCSU is definitely only looking for a HOME game - and based on our tough non-conference schedule is looking for a D-II or D-III opponent.

For the record, are there any FCS teams (especially Pioneer), still looking for a game and willing to go on the road for those dates?

Central Connecticut 2017 Schedule

Davidson is the only Pioneer team not playing on 9/23, however, they have already released an 11-game schedule and that is their open date. CCSU would have to sweet-talk them into dropping one of Brevard, @ Western Carolina or Guilford to get it done.
In that vein, these are the teams that have already released schedules and have either (A) a sub D-1 on the schedule and an open date on 9/23 or (B) are playing a sub-D1 on 9/23:
Kennesaw State
Presbyterian
The Citadel

For the record, are there any FCS teams (especially Pioneer), still looking for a game and willing to go on the road for those dates?

Central Connecticut 2017 Schedule
(Sep. 2) at Syracuse
(Sep. 9) vs. Fordham
(Sep. 16) at Youngstown State
(Sep. 23) Open
(Sep. 30) at Sacred Heart
(Oct. 7) vs. Pennsylvania
(Oct. 14) at Wagner
(Oct. 21) vs. Bryant
(Oct. 28) Open
(Nov. 4) vs. Saint Francis
(Nov. 11) at Duquesne
(Nov. 18) at Robert Morris

Unless Lincoln was able to find an opponent who offered a much bigger payday I can't see why they would back out of the agreement. I'd think they would stand to make at least 50k for this game which is not bad money for a small D2 school with a program that isn't too good. Because CCCSU is within driving distance I'm almost certain they wouldn't have spent too much for travel a 4.5 hour bus ride
