Carlos Beltran.......
My memory of Carlos that will stay with me forever is, bases loaded, 2 outs, bottom of the 9th, 2006 NLCS against the Cardinals, Mets down a run, 3-2 count, and he leaves the bat on his shoulder, called strike three.
Screw him. I hope he never gets in.

Scherzer seems to be making a pretty good case for himself.
He better get busy then. 109-64, just short of turning 32, doesn't come close. Great pitcher for the moment though.

Agree on Pujols, I think he's a lock. I also think Cabrera will make it.

Maybe from the Veterans Committee. He had the talent and the numbers, but 'roids blew it for him

Not worthy yet. But if Kershaw keeps performing the way he has, he will be in.

I think we are all a little spoiled after having 4 (soon 5) hall of famers off the 90s-2000s teams.

Not to mention that even with all of his recent success and hype, he's only 4-2 through 8 games with an ERA over 4.00 and more home runs allowed than any other pitcher in the Majors.

In the under 25 crowd, Mike Trout has a chance. 1st or 2nd in MVP voting the last 4 years.

With 4 batting titles, .320 lifetime average, 2 MVP's, 414 Home Runs at age 33. I would say Cabrera has a chance. ;)

Joe Mauer of the Twins although he has really tailed off as of late. The only thing keeping Trout and Harper out of the hall is injuries, drugs or some type of felony or gambling issue.

So easy to forget how good he was the last year in the Metrodome.

I think Mauer gets in, he is still a 300+ career batting average, he won a few gold gloves, only catcher to win three batting titles.

Unless his numbers really tank over the course of this contract. I mean they do have him signed until he is 58. xlolx

The problem I have with the HOF is that so many deserving players have been left out it is difficult for me to take it seriously. Perhaps it is time to take the voting away from the writers and come up with another way. My first suggestion would be to have members of the Hall of Fame play a much larger role in the voting. They know what it takes to get there. I don't feel it should be a popularity contest but should only be based on what was done of the field. Of course, cheaters should be given closer scrutiny and off field problems should be given less importance. I can't figure out why the all time hits leader is not in the Hall. There is not doubt he bet on baseball, but did he ever try to lose a game to win a bet? He gave is all on the field and he should be rewarded....I also find it hard to understand why Roger Maris has never made it. He was truly a great baseball player and was an MVP 2 times. Of course his batting avg. was low, but he was a player that made his team better....and yes, I did see him play...
I have to admit I do not follow the Hall that much because of my lack of respect for the voters and I have no desire to make it to Cooperstown. At least, not until the deserving are enshrined....

I think it's mostly because his stats weren't all that great but that's partly because he didn't play very long. No doubt he was a great player and teammate that made his teams better. I personally believe he deserves to be in the HOF but it is what it is. He was a 7 time all star, 3 time WS champ, 2 time MVP, 2 time RBI leader, won a gold glove and still is the single season HR king in my book. Not too shabby.

Not sure about Bo (Bonilla?). And in reality Miggy is only signed until he is 43, and I think the last two years are by mutual agreement of him and the team. I'm glad he'll finish his career in Detroit, but that contract is a bit of head scratcher. Hopefully last night was a sign that his power is starting to come back. Two homeruns, three RBI's and pushed his average back above .300.

Compare Mauer's hitting stats to Johnny Bench. If he plays the same number of seasons 17yrs (4 more for Mauer) he will more than likely end up with more; hits, runs, doubles, walks. Less strikeouts, a better career BA, OBP, OPS.
Of course Bench will have 200 more HR's and probably 400 RBI's. Bench also caught full time for 14 years, Mauer 10 years.
If Mauer can squeeze out 2 or 3 more above avg seasons(not a given at all), I think he gets in.
BTW, Im not arguing Mauer is better than Bench.
