MSU's newly hired AD backs out of the job after he accepted it last week. One of the reasons cited is that he doesn't feel he can find affordable housing in Bozeman with his $185k annual salary.

“Soon after accepting the position as athletics director at Montana State, I realized I did not want to leave the University of Utah,” Brennan said in a statement released by Utah.
“I am grateful to the administration at Montana State for offering me the job and I regret putting them in a bad situation, but I realized this is the best place for my family. In no way is this a reflection on Montana State, but rather a reflection on my position here at Utah.”
“I did not make this decision lightly, but when I considered all of the factors, it became clear to me that staying here was in my family’s best interest,” Brennan said. “Among those factors were finances, my wife Beth’s job with the football team —which she very much enjoys — and the top-flight medical care available to our son Mac."

“it didn’t feel right,” Cruzado said.
He should have left it at that. The comment on not finding housing sounds bogus.

He should have done his research and never accepted. I would think backing out on something like this could impact future offers.

Sounds like there may have been something else at play here, i.e. a pretty sick kid. If that's the case I can't blame him for wanting to stay in SLC, as they have pretty good facilities there for that kind of thing. Obviously his execution leaves something to be desired, but it is what it is.

I loved working with Leon when he was at UNI. Should prove to be a good hire.

I lived on Belgrade for 2.5 years. Ohhh how I miss the hub...lol...
Bozeman is becoming a brutally expensive to live. It's one of the main reasons I left. Then again, I wasn't making 185k a year...

Apparently his wife runs the academic center or something for the football program there (probably pays well) and likes it, according to an article in the SLC paper his salary at Utah was $197k (more than the $185k for our job), and I think one of his kids is in remission from leukemia (they have a very good cancer center in SLC).
I can understand not taking the MSU job, but it's bs to take the job, travel up here with your family for the announcement, and then resign a week later. Figure that stuff out before you accept the offer. And don't give some dumb excuses. It makes me question his ability to make decisions.
Costello sounds like a good choice.

Couldn't you get a second job or something.

It's too bad the guy didn't wait until a week before he was to take the job and then back out. Dropping out a week after taking it still allowed MSU to go back to the other applicants and select on. Had he waited until the last minute (which would have been great karma for MSU) they would have had to start the who application process over.
But at least MSU got a taste of their own medicine.
