Eastern Illinois football held a simulated scrimmage on Saturday as the Panthers prepare to head into the final week of spring practice.** EIU will hold its annual spring game next Saturday at 12 p.m. at O'Brien Field.* The Panther football team is offering a special VIP All-Access package surrounding the spring game.* Interested fans can contact Lucas Stortzum at*[email protected]*or 217-581-8413 by Monday, April 18 to RSVP for the event.*During Saturday's scrimmage three quarterbacks took snaps under center as the Panthers look to fill the starting spot.* Austin Green passed for 125 yards with a 38-yard touchdown pass to Aaron Gooch as he took snaps to start the day.* Florida International transfer Bud Martin passed for 81 yards with a touchdown pass to Brandon Neverdon.* Paul Gossage was a favorite target on the day finishing with four catches for 57 yards.*Neverdon is one of three players this spring that have shifted positions.* He moved from wide receiver to running back giving the Panthers added depth with returners Devin Church and Malik Harrison.* Korliss Marshall, a transfer from Arkansas that sat out last fall for EIU, will also be in the mix as he had two short touchdown runs in the Saturday scrimmage.*The offense finished with four touchdowns on 18 offensive drives that started from select spots on the field.* Nick Bruno knocked home a 35 yard field goal on the only attempt of the day.*On the defensive side of the ball Mack Weaver and Tray Mitchell have joined the defensive line and secondary to give EIU depth.* Weaver has shifted from playing tight end last year to defensive end this season.* Mitchell was a wide receiver and kick returner that moved to safety this spring.*The Panther defense was able to force one turnover with Bradley Dewberry picking off a pass.* The defense also added four sacks with Josh Price picking up two on the final two plays of the scrimmage.*"Today we had good competition on both sides of the ball," said head coach Kim Dameron.* "It was the first practice this spring with officials and we did not have a lot of penalties, so it was a good practice from that aspect.* I'm happy with the progress we are making and we are on track to have a good finish to spring ball."
