With the schedule officially out... let's start the thread this early. xrolleyesx
With Christmas 2016 on a Sunday, the NFL is (nearly?) bypassing the said date on its schedule...
http://www.cbssports.com/nfl/eye-on-football/25555166/nfl-throws-huge-christmas-curveball-on-2016-regular-season-schedule
A Super Bowl rematch is the NFL Kickoff 2016 game:
http://www.cbssports.com/nfl/eye-on-football/25555076/2016-nfl-schedule-release-broncos-panthers-super-bowl-rematch-kicks-off-season
Questions:
Will Chip Kelly burn another bridge, this time with the 49ers, before a college or CFL team calls him to get away?
http://www.cbssports.com/nfl/eye-on-football/25555045/report-49ers-gm-is-already-having-problems-with-chip-kelly
(http://www.cbssports.com/nfl/eye-on-football/25555045/report-49ers-gm-is-already-having-problems-with-chip-kelly)Will Johnny Manziel say goodbye to the public sporting eye for good, as he is unable to get a job with an NFL team or even as a college analyst or coach?
Will Los Angeles welcome the Rams with open arms? Or will they become rebels once again?

Well the Rams have already started out big by trading up to the first position in the draft.
1st round 15th pick
2nd round 43rd and 45th pick
3rd round 76th pick
The Titans threw in the 4th and 6th round picks.

To answer your questions:
•Maybe, I feel that Kaepernick is the wild card here. If he does well, so will Chip.
•Yes. Get him the **** out.
•I'm pretty sure LA is excited. Especially if the Rams do well, which I feel they will.

Gonna be interesting to see if my Redskins can repeat as NFC East champs. It's been over a decade since a team repeated as conference champs, but the Redskins have won 2 of the last 4. The Eagles have a new coach and shaky QB situation, Romo has a broken back and an unproven backup, so if Kirk Cousins can come close to repeating what he did last year, the Skins should be in the playoff hunt with the Giants.

I'll honestly be surprised if Dallas doesn't clinch the division. Dak Prescott has looked extremely good this pre-season and he has more than enough weapons around him with Dez, Witten, and Elliott, to be serviceable in Romo's absense. Dak doesn't have to be stellar. He just has to not suck Matt Cassel style and I think he is completely capable of that. Plus, having the best O-Line in the NFL will definitely be a huge help that most other talented rookies (See Wentz and Mariota) didn't have.
The question mark, however, is the defense.

They could get away with using him like the Redskins used RGIII his first season because of how good their O line is. Keep him under 20-25 attempts a game, easy routes, short throws. Plus, that type of play should keep their bad defense off the field. If they clinch the division it's more because the NFC East is bad than anything.
I know the popular thing is to hate on Romo, but God I feel bad for the guy. Dude just keeps coming back for more and no matter how he plays he gets trashed. Broken vertebrae after you've had back surgery? After all his other stuff? Maybe hang them up.

I've always liked Romo. He's just probably the most unlucky QB in the NFL. When he's healthy though there are very few quarterbacks better. Hoping he has a speedy recovery.

Shaun Hill is the backup.
How much cap space are the Vikings sitting on? They need to sign Peyton Manning, Megatron, and Woodson to make a old man squad and go win a SuperBowl.
Or I'm sure they can call up Brett Farve.

They do. They're bringing back almost all their contributors from an 11-5 division championship team and they're one of the youngest teams in the NFL. I'd say they're better equipped than most NFL teams to give up a 1st round pick but this seems like a desperate move made by a team that thinks their title window is closing whereas I think it's just opening.
The good thing is Bradford is under contract for 2 years and there's legitimate doubts about whether Bridgewater will be ready by the start of next season so this gives them a two year plan. I just have a feeling that Bradford has a better chance to be rehabbing with Teddy by January than of quarterbacking the Vikings to playoff victories.

Surprised there hasn't been any excitement over Dallas picking up The Sanchize!
http://nypost.com/2016/09/06/mark-sanchezs-sad-cowboys-role-taking-notes-from-a-rookie/
(http://nypost.com/2016/09/06/mark-sanchezs-sad-cowboys-role-taking-notes-from-a-rookie/)
Remember when Mark Sanchez was the toast of New York — leading the Jets to back-to-back AFC Championship games while dating a long list of celebrities? Well, this is pretty much the opposite of that.
Sanchez was at his first Cowboys practice on Monday after the Broncos released him. The 29-year-old had finished third in a preseason quarterback competition with Trevor Siemian and Paxton Lynch.
“It’s not what you would expect,” Sanchez told the Dallas Morning News. (http://www.star-telegram.com/sports/nfl/dallas-cowboys/article100111502.html#storylink=cpy) “Maybe things didn’t go perfectly as planned, but I’m here for a reason. I’ve got to continue to put my best foot forward and work as hard as I can and be a valuable asset to this team. You owe it to the guys around you to keep working hard, whether that’s scout team or whatever it means.
“If I get to see the field, great. If not, great. Just keep plugging away and enjoy being a Dallas Cowboy.”

Not a bad debut by that nephew of mine. 22-37 for 278 and 2 beautiful TD passes. More importantly to him they won the game over the Browns 29-10. I'm going to Soldier Field for their Monday night game against the Bears. So looking forward to it.

new this year in the NFL, a player is ejected if he has two unsportsmanlike penalties called on them in one game.
so if a player gets flagged twice for excessive celebration, do they get kicked out?
Upon further review, it is only the following infractions that qualify:
(a) Throwing a punch, or a forearm, or kicking at an opponent, even though no contact is made.
(b) Using abusive, threatening, or insulting language or gestures to opponents, teammates, officials, or representatives of the League.
(c) Using baiting or taunting acts or words that engender ill will between teams.
so I'm guessing it would only apply if the celebration directly taunts an opponent (as opposed to two players celebrating in a "choreographed fashion")

Had I started the Vikings D (they are on my bench, I started the Cardinals) I would have been pushing 160.

Won of the most amazing Iggles games in recent times. I would not have been surprised at a close win, possibly due to a turnover, etc., as on paper, the Steelers certainly are a top tier team. Wentz is UFR at this point. Governor Rendell actually said in the post game show that he has already reserved hotel rooms in Houston (site of the Super Bowl)! It's only three weeks, and the Iggles will likely be losing their start RT for up to ten games, so this coming bye week is good timing to get their new unit meshed. But with most people picking Philly to win only 6-7 games this year, this is a whole lotta fun. Merrill Reese, Iggles announcer, is calling us the "Commonwealth of Wentzylvania". An amazing start to what could be a fabulous career. Glad I am getting to see this from the beginning.

Atlanta goes to New Orleans and just puts it on the Saints on Monday night.
Not sure what the long term future is for the Falcons this year, but you can avoid not having a great defenses if your offense goes out and plays like that every week. Sort of amazed the Falcons had 45 points and Julio Jones touched the ball once.

both of them are turnover machines this season. ugh.
(yes, David Johnson had a fumble today, but he was wrapped up and had one defender pulling his arm away and one knocking the ball out).
Cardinals were overhyped going into the season. Now I'm just hoping Johnson can have another good year, regardless of what the rest of the team does.

I've been pleasantly surprised with their defense so far. Deion Jones is turning out to be a stud on that Falcons defense and the addition of Dwight Freeney has made the Falcons pass rush an actual factor this year. Add in Neal, Alford (two picks against Carolina), and Trufant in the secondary and they have a pretty good recipe. Their offense may be the best in the NFL.
However, they looked like they were going to be a hot team last year and then crapped the bed, so we'll see.

My friend had that privilege. Fortunately for him he had Le'Veon Bell and Antonio Brown so he still came out with the W.
It would just be my luck that the first week I bench Matt Ryan for Russel Wilson that Ryan would go and put up record numbers....
Some idiot also tried to get me to trade them the Vikings defense in exchange for Mohammad Sanu.......
.....no.

This. Last night was the first time that I was impressed with the run game but the New York defense isn't exactly high caliber. There's definitely no argument against the defense being a top 2 or 3 unit in the NFL right now.

A little breakdown on my table...
The percentage is the % chance of that particular team winning a particular playoff spot. Example: The Vikings have a 40% chance as of today of being the #1 seed in the NFC playoffs. The 49ers have a less than 1% chance of being the #1 seed (but are still mathematically able to do so, no one has actually been eliminated from any seed yet).
The last number in the line for each team is the % chance of them missing the playoffs. The Vikings have a 40% chance of being the #1 seed, 17% of #2, 10% of #3, 5% of #4, 13% of the first wildcard, 6% of the second wildcard. That gives them a 91% chance of making the playoffs, and leaves a 9% chance they somehow miss the playoffs. On the flipside, the Chicago Bears have a 95% chance of missing the playoffs this year.
A green number means that a team controls its own destiny for a particular playoff spot. For example, it's up the Vikings and Eagles where they finish, the world is their oyster. Since they play each other, the Eagles could theoretically win the rest of its games this season, finishing in a tie with a 15-1 Minnesota team, and owning the head-to-head tiebreaker. The same applies to Minnesota, if they win out, they control their own destiny. No other NFC teams currently control their own destiny for the #1 seed, but every team still controls their own destiny with whether they make the playoffs or not. Even though the Bears have a 95% chance of missing the playoffs, the number is still green because if they somehow win out, they still control whether they make the playoffs.
A red number, therefore, means that a team does not control its own destiny for a particular playoff spot. While the Bears could technically still be the #1 seed, they need to win a lot, and a bunch of other teams need to lose some games.

Update: Not a lot of huge changes after the Monday Night Football game between the Panthers and Buccaneers. Of course, the big movers were the Buccaneers (+11%) and Panthers (-11%).
The road to #1 got a little easier for Minnesota (+2%) as did their playoff hopes in general (+1%).
The Falcons, Packers, Rams, Redskins, Cardinals, and 49ers also improved their odds slightly (+1%) of making the playoffs.
Meanwhile, the Eagles, Giants, and Saints actually saw their playoff odds decrease slightly (-1%).
Big games ahead for the next week in the NFC: Seahawks vs Falcons has an effect on 87% of the potential playoff scenarios, Packers vs Cowboys has an effect on 79%, Lions vs Rams effects 51%, and Redskins vs Eagles effects 50%.
In the AFC: Raiders vs Chiefs effects 73% of the potential playoff scenarios, Patriots vs Bengals effects 57%, Chargers vs Broncos effects 56%, Dolphins vs Steelers effects 55%, and Texans vs Colts effects 53%.

Yeah, if Dallas can keep playing at the level they are, especially on defense, they will make some serious noise in the playoffs.
The Falcons, Vikings, Seahawks, and Cowboys all look like legitimate Super Bowl contenders for the NFC.
In the AFC the only team I can really put a finger on as a Super Bowl contender at this point are the Patriots, however if Buffalo keeps beating the wheels off people, who knows. The Broncos and Steelers have both looked shaky as of late.

I can't argue that.
But my point is we don't know where he could be had he not faced the suspension. If we look at Bell's game vs. the Jets and Dj's last night, Bell had more yards (155 compared to DJ's 138), even while Big Ben was destroying them himself.
Also Shady McCoy has been putting up some big numbers. DJ and McCoy have both played the 9ers, Rams, Pats, and Jets and across those four games they have
Shady: 126 Yards/G 3TDs
DJ: 145 Yards/G 5TDs
Yes, DJ is putting up bigger numbers but saying there no one even close to him in terms of being the "best player" is pretty meh. I agree he's definitely the best right now in terms of production I just don't see DJ as being on his own planet right now.
Heck even Eziekiel Elliott put up 174 yards (157 of it rushing) on Green Bay's #1 rush defense this weekend. My point is DJ isn't the only one that's been putting up the big numbers.

Do you consider Lativius Murray and Lamar Miller to be good runners? (This is completely separate from the DJ thing)
clenz
October 18th, 2016, 03:55 PM
Latavius Murray is probably average to slighlty above. Career average of 4.3 ypc. 11 career touchdowns.
I don't care he went to the Pro Bowl last year. I don't care he was 6th in the NFL in rushing yards. He did it on 4.0 yards per carry...and he BARELY hit 4.0. He had the third most rushes in the league. With 266 carries I hope you can get to about 1,100 yards - which he didn't get too. The NFL average for YPC is about 4.25
If you want to compare him to DJ we can look at just last year, since he can't stay on the field this year.
Receptions he had 5 more but had 230 less receiving yards, 7 less yards per reception and 4 less touchdowns receiving.
Rushing side DJ averaged nearly a full yard more per carry and had more touchdowns yet did so while averaging just 8 carries per game
Lamar Miller is a better comp, but again, Miller started 16 games. Miller is likely a top 10 back. Though Minnesota's defense - which you don't think is that good - held him to 20 yards rushing.
Keep in mind that DJ started only 5 games last year and wasn't featured until week 12/13. I know where you're going with this, and you're going to fail...hard.
Once DJ was given "the job" he's pulled away from the rest of the NFL.
There's a reason I told you I couldn't/wouldn't talk NFL with you anymore.
Elliott is probably going to make a case to be with DJ. Granted he has a significantly better OL in front of him. DJ has 32 more yards of offense on the season than him and they are both well over 100 more than the next closest.

He genuinely thought the offense would be ****ed without AP. I tried to tell him different. He still doesn't believe me.
He thought the defense scoring 14 against TN wasn't a big deal because it's just Tennessee.
He thought Rodgers just played a bad game against Minnesota
He thought Minnesota's 8 sacks against Carolina were nothing and every team could do it
He thought that even though Minnesota is built identical to Denver last year there's no chance Minnesota can do what what Denver did to Carolina before the game
It's genuine belief on his part. Mostly because he doesn't know who the Vikings have on defense. It's not just him, it's a national thing. Everson, Harrison, Barr, Kendricks, Joseph, Hunter, etc... aren't national names (even though Harry is the best safety in the game and Everson, Joseph, Hunter, B-Rob make up one of the best DL in the game).

It is just Tennessee. Seriously. Their 3-3 and only beat the Browns by 2 points.
Aaron Rodgers is 26 in the NFL in passer rating this season. Part of the reason Rogers looked mediocre in that game is because he's playing mediocre.
Denver beat the crap out a 17 win Carolina. The Vikings beat the crap out of a 1-5 Carolina. Before the game we both assumed Carolina was still good. I noticed how badly Carolina played, tried to point it out, and you got all upset. I even said the Vikings defense was good. But bad O-line play still was a big problem for Carolina. As it has been ALL season.
The Vikings defense didn't make them 1-5.
Like I told you after the beat Carolina, I don't doubt they will make it to the playoffs but aside from Green Bay they haven't played anyone. And even Green Bay is at best a wildcard right now.
If they are still kicking ass in the playoffs I will eat my words but we will have to wait to see for sure.

What's up with Aaron Rodgers? I'm not a Green Bay fan, but I'll readily admit he was on my short list of like the top 3 quarterbacks in the league, but he's not been in gear all season. Halftime now against the lowly Bears and he's 19 of 30 for 141 yards and 0 touchdowns. Not exactly elite quarterback numbers.

He really stepped it up in the second half. Finished with the Packer's Single-Game completion record of 39 (of 56 attempts) for 326 yards and 3 touchdowns.

There's something going on in Green Bay. It's strange to watch and listen to Packer fans right now (and I know a lot of them). There's something mentally different with Rodgers. You can see it watching him vs other years. He's late on reads. Misreading. His rapport with teammates isn't as good as it was before it seems.
Something in his head isn't right. I don't know if he's so focused on his ****ty commercials, his personal life, celebrity friends, etc... but he just seems even more arrogant about the game than he did before....somehow.

I agree. I think we did see a glimpse of the old Rodgers in the second half of that game last night. The one that could extend plays and deliver lasers. But like you said, it was the Bears. Not having Starks or Lacy definitely changed up the game plan last night but if Rogers can play like he did last night in the second half they should be fine.
The top 3 quarterbacks over the years in the NFL (that are still playing, obviously) in my opinion have been Brady, Big Ben, and Rodgers. Watching Rogers over the past few weeks I didn't feel like I was watching anything close to a Top Tier quarterback.

I do think it's funny how when Tony Romo was dating celebrities there was so much speculation about where his head was at and whether his personal relationships were affecting his play. None of that for A-Rodge.... it's all his receivers fault because they can't get open apparently. xrolleyesx

He was the best FCS player in college, just didn't play where his talent was used they way it should have been.
Would have been awesome to watch him play in Montana's wide open offense! Conversely, would have also been fun to watch him in NDSUs offense...although, that thought might make Clenzs head explode.
Hard to argue his dynamic ability!

It's a case of doing no research.
His very first day of practice the year he redshirted he tried linebacker, safety, WR and running back. Farley saw him at RB and instantly said "He isn't going anywhere else". he was listed on the roster as a WR during his first year at UNI (that he redshirted), but then the next year he was moved to RB and the rest is history.
but UNI did throw to him out of the backfield (and sometimes lining him up in the slot or outside) much like Arizona is doing, but no, he never really played as a true WR (other than maybe on the scout team his redshirt year).
I believe he was a RB and a DB in high school

For some reason he's listed as a WR his freshman year but he was never a WR. It's well documented that the situation I load out is what happened.
They probably listed him as a WR on day one assuming that's where he was going to be and never updates the position since he was red shirting. If he lines up as a WR more than a handful of times in all 4 years combined I'd be shocked.
Remember these are the same announcers that repeatedly state that he doesn't have break away speed. Typically a few plays later he breaks a big play and runs away from everyone.

None of these sports reporters or commentators have watched any FCS football anyway, so they're just going to read what's given to them. And once something is mentioned one place, it will be parrotted again and again. And Johnson isn't going to argue with them, as its really just complimenting his skillset as a pass-catcher. But some people like to get worked up over it.
They definitely should have given Johnson another crack at it on 3rd down, given AZ's problems with the kicking game (and the fact that the Seattle players are allowed to leap the line whether they make contact or not).
Can't believe how much AZ dominated the stats but couldn't get any damn points.

This, and never, ever let a field goal kicker decide the game unless you absolutely have to.
Also, that play at the goal line with Johnson in OT looked a lot closer to a TD than the one yard line, did they review that, I missed about a minute of the goings on at that point.

Terrible placement by the officials. Should have been right by the goal line. He wouldn't have had as far to go on 2nd down. Ram the ball in and remove all doubt. Then the Cards let the clock run down and they took a delay penalty. Again, these are professionals, not junior high kids. Players didn't execute, coaches didn't think and officials seemed bored by the terrible game.

They already had the FG unit out there at that point. You would think that a 24-yard FG wouldn't be any tougher than a 19-yard FG for a professional kicker, but obviously that wasn't the case (for either kicker).

Why are you mad at Golden Tate? Is it because he disrespected the Vikings in OT?
So. Disrespectful. Of course the front flip into the end zone on top of a Viking on the Vikings’ field is the rudest part of all this, but looked at how Tate shook Xavier Rhodes so bad that Rhodes whiffed on the tackle and then slid out of bounds on his stomach like an eight-year-old on a Slip 'N Slide. He then proceeded to stiff-arm Pro Bowl safety and all-American badass Harrison Smith’s face in the dirt before putting the cherry on top of this **** you sundae by going Sonic the Hedgehog on Andrew Sendejo for the walk-off score.
And Sherman's hit last night was clean, just early. The rule is if you hit the ball then you can hit the kicker. He hit the ball. The penalty should have been the offsides. The no calls are on the Refs, not Sherman. Either way, he still made the Bill's corners look like high schoolers.
I don't mind either of them. They're entertaining.
