Yeah, it's not the best but they've kept the run locked down well. It will be interesting to see how they handle Brady in Foxborough.
Steelers have been playing been playing 'bend-don't-break' defense all year, giving up a lot of yards but not many points, and that's what they did today and it's worked out pretty well so far.
Steelers offense looks damn near unstoppable.

The Steelers had a very strange final 6 minutes of that game, strange play calling on O. I hate "bend, don't break D" I had to watch that all year with NDSU. They have a lot of tools on offense but seem to shot themselves in the foot quite a bit. Brown and Bell are two of the best offensive players in the NFL.

Pretty sure they went into chew clock mode in the second quarter. But hey, they're winning.
Big Ben also showed up to his post game interview in a boot from an injury in the fourth quarter so that could explain the wonky last six minutes.
Also.... HOLY CRAP RODGERS!

Green Bay is lucky as hell.
The Steelers were throwing the ball at the end of the game which was dumb as ****.
I think it will be the Steelers and the Pats and the Pats blow them away.

I also think it will be the Pats and the Steelers but I don't think they will blow them away. The Steelers have the offense to hang in a shootout and I like the Steelers' run game a lot more than NE's.
I think it will come down to who can get more TDs in the red zone. The Steelers' D has been very good in the red zone.
Since the end of the second quarter GB has been rolling.

Say Falcons fans every year until Matt Ryan starts to choke on himself.
Ryan is prone to critical mistakes, no question. He's done a lot less of that this year in the second year in Shannahan's system and really should be the league MVP. He's been nothing short of incredible all season.
There have been several Falcons teams that have used weak schedules and close wins to high seeds and early playoff exists. I don't see that with this team. These Falcons played the toughest slate of defenses in the NFL, and basically shredded all of them.
They are not great defensively, but do not really need to be. When your offense is scoring 33 ppg, the defense just needs to be something other than abysmal and create a couple of turnovers. That they do well enough.

Except for that game where he thought Eric Berry was a Falcon. And Denzel Perryman. And Earl Thomas.
Matt Ryan has single handledly choked away three games with late interceptions this season alone. To me, giving him the MVP is a joke.
I can think of two quarterbacks who are head and shoulders above Matt Ryan and several running backs who have a stronger MVP case than Ryan. I think Vic Beasley is more deserving than Ryan.

I won't argue with you on it. There are plenty of articles from virtually every national sports journalism website making the case for Ryan. You can read those. They make the case better than I can.
As Bill Barnwell noted, Atlanta has an offense that is probably one of the 10 best since 1970. They scored 540 points this year, which is 71 more points than the next best team. Ryan has 38 TDs and 7 picks. All of that while playing the toughest schedule of defenses in the league. The Falcons have played 6 of the top 10 passing defenses in the NFL.
Frankly, there's really not a compelling argument for anyone but Ryan.

I don't disagree that the Falcons offense is top-notch. I completely agree 100%. But to me, they are 100% not because of just Ryan, but because of Ryan's' supporting cast as well.
He he has a top notch offensive line, the best receiver in the league, several other great reviving options in Sanu and Gabriel, and the best running back duo in the NFL.
Could you imagine what Brady or Rodgers would currently be doing with Matt Ryan's assets? Rodgers has had 22 TDs (18 of them regular season) and no picks in the last seven weeks with no running game and a beat up receiving corps.
I think I differ from majority opinion on this subject because I don't see the MVP how other people do. I think of it as who is the best player in the NFL and who makes the biggest impact on the game week in and week out reguadless of how their team is doing.
For example, I think David Johnson should be in the mix. He's an absolute beast all season who led the league in yards from scrimmage and had more points than any non-kicker in the NFL but gets no looks because the Cardinals suck.
That's not to say MVP's can't come from good teams but when their strongest argument is "their team is number one" rather than "they're leading the NFL in all these stats" I don't really buy it.

But you could make that argument against anyone, couldn't you? I mean, Ezekiel Elliot has spent all season running through holes you could drive a truck through. In a sport like football, to some degree you are always going to rely on the supporting cast.
I don't think Ryan's success is just because of the OL, though. He makes a lot of pinpoint throws and "throws receivers open." He set an NFL record for hitting (I think) 13 different receivers this year for touchdowns.
Great example is this throw a few weeks ago against Carolina. Throws a perfect ball in between two Carolina defenders. Rookie TE is well covered, but neither the CB or LB can do anything with where the ball is placed. It is an indefensible pass. http://www.atlantafalcons.com/media-lounge/videos/Cant-Miss-Play-Perkins-First-Career-TD/073f8cc7-83b0-4b0a-b493-1a64a94e428c

The Cardinals were in Chicago until 1960. So we had two Cardinal teams there.
The New York Giants moved to San Francisco in 1958. So you had two Giants teams.
The Brooklyn Dodgers moved to LA in 1958. There used to be a Brooklyn Dodgers football team.
I'm sure there were others in the old days- but those come to mind right away.

The Sacramento Kings began as the Rochester Royals. They then moved to Cincinnati, where they played during the Oscar Robertson era.
In the early 1970s they moved to Kansas City. The baseball team there was the Royals so the basketball team became the Kings. The Negro League team there was the Monarchs.
It is hard to believe San Diego will only have one major pro sports team.

http://www.espn.com/nfl/story/_/id/18458717/san-diego-chargers-desperate-move-shot-nfl-vitality-2017
Now a weird year for the NFL just got weirder. If the Chargers do indeed move, and if owners approve the Raiders' move to Vegas in March, three teams will have relocated in a 14-month span. There will be plenty of blame to go around. Goodell will be the face of it, but internally, owners and executives will wonder if NFL executive Eric Grubman, the point man on stadiums, did an effective enough job of negotiating with San Diego officials. The owners will be viewed as vessels of greed; Spanos will be the one who in the end decided to pull the plug on a cherished home, his legacy a sunburned version of Art Modell's. But the lingering conflict goes beyond the relocations, beyond the logistics and into an area that is tougher to navigate if not solve, because there is no clear solution: What if the NFL simply matters less?
It's a question that goes beyond the ratings issues of 2016, a crisis that wasn't -- but still shook some owners as a premonition that the league's cultural supremacy might be at stake. All stadium deals are different, and it's especially difficult to build one in California, but given the stakes, it was revealing that the Chargers' November stadium ballot measure went down so badly, with only 43 percent in support of it. The city had a choice and it made it.
Now Los Angeles, which for two decades watched the weekend's two best games on TV, will watch the Rams and the Chargers. Owners publicly are bullish about Los Angeles as a two-team town; privately they're not so sure -- especially because owners don't want the one team that would do best there, the Raiders, to return to their old home, owning to Al Davis' burned bridges and the co-opting of real apparel by gangs (http://www.espn.com/espn/feature/story/_/id/14752649/the-real-story-nfl-owners-battle-bring-football-back-los-angeles). "How are the Chargers going to market themselves?" one team executive says. "'We didn't want to be here, but we're here, so buy some PSLs?'"...

Technically the Ravens are an expansion team and the Browns just took a hiatus.
If I were the pre-hiatus Browns I would petition the NFL to let Baltimore have my history. That way nobody would connect me to the current version of the team.

That's my gut feeling as well. Rodgers is a damn stud in the playoffs and Green Bay's defense is night and day compared to when they last met the Cowboys. My concern however is that the Cowboys Offensive will be able to just impose their will and Zeke will eat.

I am a Steeler fan and I think that Brown is one of the best receivers in the NFL but at one point in time during the season, I think that 40% of A Brown's TD's ended with an excessive celebration penalty, I believe that the penalty was accessed 4 times in his first 10 TD's. He needs a smack on the side of his head.

I'm old school. If I just tell a player NOT to do something- and then they do it anyway- someone regardless of physical talent is going to get a butt kicking. Why does a player do something like that at any time- and especially during the playoffs? Arrogance or stupidity?
Because he's a WR, and that's what they do. Nothing made me prouder to have ZZ come from SDSU than how he acted when he scored a TD for the Lions xnodx

That's about what regular season tickets to a Patriot's game cost. Thankfully, I can usually see them play in Buffalo for about $50.

I don't mind celebrations but these guys would go way too far with it if they didn't put limits on it. They already do some stupid stuff that's against the rules, they would go way out of bounds if there wasn't anything stopping them in an effort to one up the other guy.

Yea, I agree with you but there is currently a rule in place, very subjective, and until it changes, he needs to tone it down. It almost cost them a game this year. He scored towards the end of the game, did a bunch of end zone ****, got a penalty and the opposing team ran the kickoff back into the Pittsburgh end of the field. The Steelers dodged a bullet but it didn't need to happen.

I tell you what, I have been watching football since the 60's and if you would have hot dogged back then the way these guys do now, you might of got hurt. As it stands, wide receivers are the biggest trash talkers out there because they are the second most protected athlete on the field, next to the QB's. Bring back the bump and run and allow ALL contact before the ball is in the air, then you can bring back end zone celebrations. Sounds like a fair deal to me.

To point one I completely agree, I just don't want to hear their tears when the defensive players hit them with some extra malice that they have brought on themselves.
For the second point, a WR being able to be destroyed over the middle again would tone down the trash talk and deflate some egos, but we will never see that again unless they can invent a helmet that can guarantee against concussions.

Well part of their health has to be attributed to playing some pretty garbage teams as well as their defensive stats being propped up by somehow managing to play the worst qbs the NFL has to offer. I'm not surprised they're in the Super Bowl, and they certainly are deserving, but the NFC was the better conference this year in my book.

Big Ben and Co aren't on the same level offensively as the Falcons are this year. It's not a two man band for them like it is for Pittsburgh with one good WR and one good RB. They have multiple of both. The least shocking thing I've found out today is your a Pats fan. It fits you.

THIS HOLY CRAP.
Who did New England have to beat this year?
Cardinals (Courtesy of the biggest choke of Cantzaro's career)
Texans (Brock Oswieler, 'nuff said)
Dolphins (who in the next three weeks went to OT with the Browns, lost to the Bengals, and lost to the Titans)
Browns (Really?)
Bengals (6-9-1, if Brock Oswieler can beat them, so can Brady)
Bills (isn't this the team that made the Jets look good?)
49ers (I bet Philadelphia fans got a laugh out of this one)
Jets (I bet they miss Sanchez)
Rams (Didn't their coach set a record this year or something?)
Ravens (the perfect blend of optimism and mediocrity)
Broncos (Spent the season supplying charity wins to garbage NFC West teams)
Jets (that Harvard kid should be smart enough to know the guys in green are the ones he should be throwing to)
Dolphins (Didn't even have Tannehill in this game)
Texans (Brock ****ing Oswieler)
Steelers (I'll give you this one. But their defense was dog ****)
This isn't one of the best Patriots teams in history, this is one of the most overrated.

As the Falcons have pretty well carved up every defense they've seen, it might be more appropriate to say that this will be the big test for Belicheck and Co.
Of note, Quinn was Seattle's defensive coordinator when they faced the Patriots two years ago. So, while only a second year head coach, he should have a good bit of familiarity preparing for New England in the Super Bowl.

Just my opinion, but in the NFL, looking at games in October is pretty much irrelevant. Falcons lost to the Charges in OT the week before beating the Packers by 1 point. Green Bay showed up again last night in the Georgia Dome and was soundly trounced. I expect the same would have happened to San Diego.
Remember, the Falcons start 3 rookies on defense (Deion Jones, De'Vondre Cambell, Keanu Neal). They also start another 4 second year players (Vic Beasley, Grady Jarrett, Ricardo Allen, Jalen Collins). As the season went on, those guys have started to turn into a pretty good defensive unit.
I realize the schedule is the schedule, but looking at games months ago (as the Packers would attest) is pretty irrelevant to what is going on the last week in January. The Falcons are a much more complete team as those young defensive players have continued to improve.

Wow, the Patriots hate is strong here. Keep doubting this teams SOS. they only have the GOAT at QB, GOAT at HC, and have actually been to the SB 7 times before. The Falcons have no idea what they are getting into.
Ill admit, the Falcons offense is downright nasty. They have the best WR in the world, the best RB duo in the NFL, and a decent QB. Muhamed Sanu is not to laugh at either.
However if you think that offense can do what they did to GB to the Patriots, youre blind.

What stops the patriots is a creative and violent defense. The Falcons dont have that.

You can explain the Falcons' lack of a violent defense to Aaron Rodgers (http://florida.247sports.com/Bolt/WATCH-Brian-Poole-levels-Aaron-Rodgers-50734611), and Russell Wilson (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lR8aOJR97KY)
Edit: Also, look at this sack of Rodgers by Ra'Shede Hageman (http://www.nfl.com/videos/nfl-game-highlights/0ap3000000777580/Ra-Shede-Hageman-sacks-Aaron-Rodgers-by-shoelace). Not a violent hit on Rodgers (though impressive he tackled an elusive QB by swatting his leg out from him), but watch him just truck the GB center. Love that kind of stuff.

All the birds had to do was run the ball 3 times and kick the field goal. I swear our OC Polesek must have been calling the plays.

Everything went right for the Patriots in the fourth quarter. My concern the entire second half was that Atlanta would go too conservative with a lead, which has never really been their game.
At the end of the day, Atlanta needed to make one play in the fourth quarter and couldn't get it done.

That was the most dumbfounding part of the entire game. Atlanta had it won. Their field goal kicker as I heard was like 30 for 31 on field goals or some such number anyway. He'd only missed one field goal all season. Idiotic coaching lost them that super bowl.

Cant really comprehend that second half without rewatching it at this point. Seemed to me that it was a combo of Tom being legendary and the falcons defense being gassed. The Falcons really stumbled not scoring a single point after 28...
That Edelman catch was the point i knew the Pats were somehow going to win. Usually those plays happen against the Patriots in the SB.
Id imagine Atlanta feels like Pats fans did after the 07 SB. The Falcons are a great team and they will certainly be back. Just a real tough lesson to learn on the big stage.
Is Brady on par with Michael Jordan or do you guys seperate the two? 5-2 in SBs and countless playoff wins is just unbelievable!

Not comparable, in my opinion. This was Boston's 38th major sports championship. Atlanta has 1. While the 2007 Superbowl was certainly difficult, I'm sure, its not like Patriots fans haven't had 7 others to enjoy over the last ten or 15 years.
This was Atlanta's second visit to the Super Bowl in 51 years. For 3 quarters they had the Patriots completely on the ropes and Tom Brady completely rattled. For whatever reason, the wheels just came off in the fourth quarter.

I would take Matt Bryant over any kicker in the league. Even after the sack, the field goal was still within his range. Dan Quinn has often said he'd give Bryant a shot from anything inside of 60. The holding penalty, though, was too much to overcome.
Its easy to second guess the coach after things go badly.

This. They had easy field goal range and they blew it. The Pats had no answer for Devonta Freeman. I think they may have asked Pete Caroll to call the offense there.

That was repayment for Kent Hrbeck and Dan Gladden. Debt's already been paid.

See, that's the attitude that gets you beat by Morten Andersen.
I imagine that if you polled the nation, everyone outside of Minnesota would say that Kent Hrbek pulled Ron Gant off of first base. He may not have done it intentionally, but he outweighed Gant by 100 pounds, and single-legged him off the bag. You cannot forcibly move a player off an occupied base.

Not Hrbeck's fault that Gant isn't capable of maintaining balance.

Now, the house I grew up in was 10.8 miles, straight line, from the MN boarder.
My dad's family is from Minnesota, and he lived in Minnesota until he was 33.
I did spend a week in 1996 at my grandmothers house in Minnesota.
We had kids that lived in Minnesota go to my high school because our school district actually went about a quarter mile into Minnesota.
However, I have never lived in Minnesota

I still think it was a textbook single leg takedown. Gant and Hrbek aren't in the same weight class, though.

Gant's weight carried Hrbeck back, and to the right.
Gant pinned Hrbecks right hand between Gant's thigh and Hrbecks body. Hrbeck was behind the bag. Gant couldn't slow down in time and took Hrbeck with him.

Nonsense. Gant "couldn't slow down" because Hrbek yanked him to Edina. The base is Gant's not Hrbek's.
Virtually the entire baseball world considers that a bad call.
Surprisingly, probably not the worst call in Braves' post season history, which goes to that moron that called an infield fly 200 feet from home plate.
I could also throw in Eric Gregg's monumental strike zone in 1997 NLCS where Livan Hernandez was throwing lollipop curves in the opposite batters box called for strikes.
Come to think of it, Atlanta has been pretty well shafted in the MLB post season

I taught one year at Lakota, IA- nines miles south of MN. Also remember coaching against Emmons, MN when I was at Freeborn. A gas station had MN on one side of the roof and Iowa on the other side since it was right on the border.

How'd they handle beer sales?
Minnesota can buy on Sundays, but us heathens in Iowa can.
When I was in high school the state of Iowa opened up the ability for us boarder schools to play out of state opponents. We played Ellsworth my freshman-senior years. I think I've seen my HS play Hills Beaver Creek, Adrian, Luvurne out of MN and Harrisburg and Tea out of South Dakota.
I think Ellsworth was actually our shortest road game when I was in HS. 13.2 miles between the two high schools. It was 3 turns from our HS to theirs. About a quarter mile mile or so west from our HS front door then turn north onto the main N/S highway out of town. Take that 6ish miles. Turn west for 1 mile. Turn north and go about 4.5-4.7 miles north and the Ellsworth HS is right on the high way in town.
Our closest conference rival was 14.8 miles

The Sunday liquor sales bill is in the legislature again, but this year it will probably pass. Republicans are in favor, Democrats against.
Ever hear of the Schilling boys from Ellsworth? They played at Augustana in Sioux Falls. Now they are officiating.

Played against them. They are a bit of "legends" in the area. I haven't looked recently, but last I new Curt was coaching and the AD at my high school.
For having never played before about 2002 those games were really, really, heated. Mostly because they had the Schillings and we have Tyler Fluth, and a few others that were pretty damn good. Those games were testy as hell. They blew us out the very first time - Curt Schilling's SR year. Then we boat raced them a few times when Schilling the younger went through

The Sunday liquor sales should happen. I listen to KFAN out of MPLS and they talk about it quite a bit.
Sounds like it may not pass the house based on the last few days, but the gov can/will still approve it.

I meant to post this earlier. It is sort of freaky. This is absolutely on the level and true and I took this snip from my brother's Facebook page. Notice the date....it was on Saturday. He has been inundated with calls for lottery numbers ever since Sunday night.
Anyone can say they had a dream, after the fact, but he posted it before the fact, by a whole day. Weird.
