If Delaware decides to hire a basketball coach with proven experience leading winning programs, Blaine Taylor fits the bill.

More importantly, after the personal strife that characterized his departure from Old Dominion, Taylor insists he’s also fit to lead.

Taylor, who guided ODU to four NCAA Tournament berths in 12 seasons, said Monday he’s interested in the Delaware coaching job, with which he has considerable familiarity as a former Colonial Athletic Association rival.

“I know my way around the league,” Taylor said, speaking on the phone during a break from a bike ride in Virginia Beach. “When I went to ODU, they needed an experienced guy to come in and put things back together.”

At Delaware, Taylor added, “Somebody needs to come in with a steady hand, soothe the fears —‘We’ll be OK’ — and be a little bit of a pied piper. Why am I drawn to it? I think I can do that stuff. You want to win the CAA, you better know what you’re doing, and I’ve done that several times.”...

He's had his demons but he is a really good guy and a very, good coach.

It was sad and unfortunate how it ended here at ODU but I always liked Blaine and he did a great job here both on the court and off until the last year or so. Hell that loss by our team to Butler in the NCAAs sent me into a long funk too, albeit a sober one.

It's always a risk taking someone with a history like his but he looks healthy now and Delaware could do a lot worse than Blaine Taylor. As he said here, he knows how to build a successful program.

True, I don't know why he would be without it.

No kidding. I didn't even recognize him in this picture.

He is a quality coach that lost his way in the last year at ODU. Seems to have his act together and we be great fit.
