LAKE CHARLES – Twenty-one total high school football players officially became the newest part of the Southland Conference champion McNeese Cowboys football team on*Wednesday's National Signing Day.Six of the signees were offered scholarships from 16 different Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS) programs, the highest level of competition in college football.*There were three, 3-star rating recruits and two 2-star rating signings. Six defensive backs were signed to National Letters of Intent in addition to five offensive linemen, three wide receivers, two quarterbacks and running backs, and one linebacker."We feel like we've signed a very, very good class," said first-year head coach Lance Guidry about his very first class. "I have to give a big thanks to the coaching staff for their hard work. All of them did a great job of battling the other schools in the Southland Conference as well as FBS schools throughout the process."We signed six players that had offers from 16 different FBS schools from five different conference –*Sun*Belt, Mountain West Conference, Conference USA, American Athletic Conference, and even had one Big Ten school we beat."Guidry explained the signing of five offensive linemen who average 6-foot-4 and 283 pounds."We re-evaluated what our plan was going to be," said Guidry. We were going to sign three but I told Coach (Eman) Naghavi to go out and get as many as he can. The magic number was five. We wanted to get five high school guys but that also leaves us room to pick up a couple of transfers."Local product and offensive lineman Collin Fountain (6-3, 310), a 3-star recruit out of Barbe High School, was highly sought after by numerous schools including Houston, Southern Mississippi, Tulane and Colorado State, just to name a few.Fountain was one of five Southwest Louisiana players to sign scholarships joining St. Louis Catholic High School kicker Michael Mack (6-1, 170), defensive back Alvinoski LaFleur (6-0, 180) of LaGrange High School, and running back Keshon Bell (6-0, 205) and offensive lineman Caleb Gary (6-3 ½, 310) of Welsh High School.Joining Fountain as 3-star signees were defensive back Gabe Foster (6-2, 185) out of Newton High School, and wide receiver Parker Orgeron (6-0, 185) from Mandeville HS. Foster is the son of Bryan Foster who was a running back for the Cowboys in the early 1990s. His older brother, Callum, signed to play with the Cowboys last year. He earned all-district honors at running back and cornerback and was offered scholarships early by Purdue, Arkansas State and Colorado State.Orgeron caught 137 career passes for 2,083 yards and 31 touchdowns at Mandeville. He caught 58 passes for 845 yards and 14 TDs as a senior.Orgeron's twin brother and quarterback, Cody (6-1, 160), also signed with the Cowboys on*Wednesday. Cody's senior year at QB was his first year to play football. A three-time all-district tennis player, Cody threw for 2,200 yards and 27 TDs on 150 of 233 passing and was named the team's Offensive Player of the Year. The two are the sons of LSU defensive line coach Ed Orgeron who was a McNeese graduate assistant back in the mid-1980s. style=" "="">
